Western people are so weak and stupid. They always complain about the WEATHER:) they dont know that in europien part of Russia it is not cold at all. Only Siberia is very cold but westerns have never been there. Why then russians don't die in russian winter?
If Napoleon had started the Russia campaign in early march instead of late june, he could have taken Moscow sooner, leading to the Russians making peace.

Russian militars were aware of Napoleon superiority in head to head combat, so they opted for letting him get deeper into Russia, while leaving a deserted Moscow in fire .So what then, what could Napoleon do? Get further into Russia while winter was about to arrive? Russians were smart, Napoleon was blinded by his greed; this was the result.

@Xpayne1 lol, he took the entire city, the russian civilian and soldier had flee just before the french arrival. the russian left Only their prisonners who put the city in fire.
@spad57 So Basically Napoloen captured Moscow. Russia set Fire to it ... Napoloen Left Moscow . On the way back to France ..His army was raped by the Russian Cossacks and He had to flee from his army to Paris when his army was 800 Miles away from Paris .. and out of 690,000 French and all the other countries' . only 10,000-50,000 Survived & returned back .. If there was ever a Military strategies book, on the first Chapter, First Page, First Line :- NEVER MARCH ON MOSCOW :- Montgomery
@massivesovietunion yes exact, but don't forget that russian army lost 75% of his men during this campaign, this was often forget. napoleon shouldn't march too deeper into russia, and moscow was not the capital. Russia is too larger to be invade by foot he had to destroy russian army in center of europa not in russia.
Napoleon, who recognized the genius of the art of war, invaded Russia with the force three times superior to the western Russian armies under the command of generals, not marked with brilliant victories, and after just six months the company of his army, the strongest in history, was completely destroyed.

One thing people dont realise is that armies of that period didnt fight in winter usually.
Hence the phrase take up winter quarters.
They had no tents or sheter and slept in the open.
With continual temperatures of minus -30c or so people literally froze to death as they slept or walked.
Another thing was that the villages were very far apart and there was no forage. or food.
There were reports of cannibalism
combine starvation and deadly freezing temperatures = bad idea

Pretty simple really. Napoleon had a massive army and destroyed it. Thats the sign of his pathetric genius.
The guy was a turd.

For your information -in the war 1812
invasion of 500,00 troops and 200,00
sapliyng troops -this is was a total disaster for russian pesants. They didnot
get any food for familis.
So to feed a franch POW -was impasible
mission.
So to speak -get wtat you wanted-6 feet
