Sounds dead all right... the singers never showed up. If you want to hear and see the best rendition of this song.... check out ProCoro Canada video..
it makes you want to listen to it over and over again....
i agree...also in the main chorus (high tenors going D to A...), the basses should be an octave up. haing them so low muds it up, and takes away from its intended openness.
finally, look into holding out some of the ends (or middle) of phrases out longer.
wow...hardly any bass!! come on yall.... i sing tenor 1 and its friggin hard for me to hit that high note but i can still hit it and sing it super loud....i have to download the one we sang but im sort of lazy but itll be up by tomorrow lolz
yeah, we only have one guy that can hit it in our chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, but it sounds great! i wish we had a video to upload of our performance, but alas, we dont :-(
I didnt enjoy the interpretation of the conductor...
Russian is about BASS!! And overall, the bass2!!!!
Im a bass1, so i swear no bias there...
Anyways, I also reside in Texas, where we are doing this for state. Unfortunately, they usually dont choose any cuts from gender specific pieces usually- which is a shame.
This is one of my favorite Russian Mens Pieces, and when I saw we were doing it, over the summer, I freaked the heck out in the music store.
fluetelette1 and hiei3 i'm sorry to tell you this but this is probably the hardest thing you play. It's not about pushing the right key or valve. It's about inntonation, slow lyrical songs are 10x harder to play well than any technical song is.
i wouldn't talk trash about somone you dont know... it could be really easy to tune for some people... just because you think this is a hard song doesn't mean its hard for everyone. just keep that in mind.
you're missing my point tubaman, this piece isn't to be played by a high school marching band, or even any band at all, i do not mean to say that these people are bad or good at tuning, what i'm saying is this song is difficult to play with musicianship that many people do not posses. Forgive me for sounding rude. But i stand my ground stating that this piece is much more difficult to perform well than most traditional marching band pieces
I know. My marching band plays this in the stands before tuning. Lol. This and stuff like "Sweet, Sweet Spirit." xD It's not hard. Though, I think ours is in a different key than this arrangement.
I have this song already!!! I have to sing this song at the District auditions for all-state this Saturday and i'm a Tenor 2 so I know the part it's just that I DON'T HEAR IT!!! If all 4 parts aren't in there it sounds wierd to me!!!
NNo!!! I'm in the Varsity Mixed Choir at my school and all Varsity members havvve to audition for all-state and for all-state there are 2 all men songs and 2 all women songs!!! This happens to be one of the all men songs!!!
None of those guys hit the low B. Though in parts of it, it almost sounded like the bass 2s were singing when they have the 4 measure rest or whatever it is.
The tenors sound great. The basses just sound like they're hitting the notes and that's it. They're not really using any dynamics or adding emotion to the song. I can guarantee the Texas All-State Men's Choir is going to make this one of the best songs of all of them.
our high school band got a division 1 on this song, and we played it much much slower. this was a very dificult song for us it is a grade 4 and we are 2A. most 2A's play grade 2 peices which are much much easier
not legato enough. it should be fluid all the way through and they werent enough. u are crazy. i want to make the mens choir for our all state just to do this song. its my favorite out of all of our all state songs. dead stock yota was completely right.
I meant, wake me up when it was over. Your right it wasn't fluid enough, but swelling each note isn't very good for the ears, and sounding like a group of old men isn't my idea of a good concert. Salvation is a slow piece, but that doesn't mean it needs to sound like a procession of death. They need new direction.
ur right in the reaspect that it needs direction. its kinda chunky in some parts. and the swelling of each note its overkill. but phrasing should be looked at. and than at the end it sounded like they were running out of breath... and ur right in the fact that it shouldnt sound like a dirge. the end especially. ur saying alliluia(srry for spellin)! ur suposed to rejoice. and for that the tempo could be picked up a bit more. but thats all about interprtation
It's should be more clear

I'm a bass 2 and we're singing this for our Men's selective choir in high school. Those low D's are HARD TO HIT.

That low B is hard to hit too, although it is optional.

the bass 2's sound is so heavy, i mean you can sing low and be light at the same time, it would've blended better with all of the other parts.
Tommiewashere 3 years ago
listen to more russian music. bass is usually really heavy in russian music just because of how low it is.
