  • Genuinely interesting. A look into the mind of someone who would see the world destroyed.

  • Very interesting, very atmospheric - Lovecraft on film done right for a change!

I thought one or two moments were a little hammy, but that's just me.

    An overall fantastic little short!

  • Crafted with love.

  • Bravo! What I just saw is exactly the way I perceive the Lovecraft horror in my mind and I never thought anyone could express it so well.If only big studio budgets were given to such talents...Amazing work!

  • This is excellent! I love how the end leaves you wondering what exactly Tutu really is, and a part of you isn't sure you want to know. This is an example of truly great atmospheric horror. Well done!

  • I wonder what Tutu is? XD I wanna fail my sanity roll! Bwahahahahaaa!!!! XD

  • The shot composition through this entire film is really excellent. Very atmospheric work (I particularly like the shot at 4:54). Stylistically it reminded me of The Wicker Man. I'd love to see you head a Lovecraft production. I love the early Stuart Gordon films on a nostalgic cult charm kind of level, but it'd be great to see a filmmaker with some elegance and artistic integrity tackle his work. It certainly deserves it.

  • @sunnybrand

    Wow, thanks!

I've made other Lovecraft short films (this is my fifth), and I'll be running the HP Lovecraft Film Festival now in Los Angeles (I was one of the first to help start the Portland one, fifteen years ago). But a Lovecraft feature would be fun. I have a script for "Colour Out of Space" that is pretty cool, but I have no money to make it. Maybe someday.

  • Perfect, really engaging. Thanks for this one.

  • The accent sounds like Jud Crandall from Pet Sematary...

  • Strange accent.. what is it?

    I like this short!

  • The accent is supposed to be New England (I think), but also slurred a bit as if he had a stroke.

Finally, I warped the sound in post to represent the old film.

    Glad you like it, cheers

  • @pragzter | it sounds old american and german/austrian, it shifts between them as if... as if... *shudders*

  • I've watched this one about five times now. it never gets stale.

  • Beautiful! :3

  • Excellent. Very well done.

  • Great stuff. Scary and atmospheric with brilliant acting and an incredible idea. 5/5

  • Very creepy and cool. Pure Lovecraftian joy! Kudos.

  • And that's all I have to say about that.

  • Lmao, I love how he's like "Yeaaahhh :D"

  • Very interesting and creative! I enjoyed it. Lovely directing, acting, and effects - creepy as well. The old man's voice/manner of speaking sort of reminded me of the actor who played Jud Crandall in the film adaption of Stephen King's Pet Sematary, haha.

  • I'm a little confused by the ending. Does that mean he let Tutu in?

Anyway, 10/10. You hit that Lovecraftian horror right on the nose.

  • Does Tutu even exist? Is HE Tutu? Is Tutu inside all of us, waiting to escape?

    I made it, and I don't even know. ;-)

  • great show aaronjv.TUTU is real.egypt knew him and described him as a gigantic black sphinx/lion;sound familiar:old nyarly love you.

  • @tedeadite

    Tutu is Nyarlathotep?

  • Ambivalence is great for horror. Why is the old geezer at the Asylum or is it a rest home ? Did he just reach for the letter opener one day ?

My favorite bit is "She says ol' Tutu don't know right from wrong, he just knows he's Tutu and we ain't."

Kudos aaronjv, I faved this because it is probably the best C'thulhu piece I have yet seen and I am a fan and go looking.

  • @benxtaron

I'm goin to say not yet, but that that was a glimpse just to let us know that the dude's wife is right, and Tutu is indeed, VERY not normal. Tutu's probably influencing the man somehow.

  • Perfect! It has that broken creepiness that makes lovecraft lovecraft. 10 / 5

  • Scary, creepy.... oh do it again!

  • Amazing, very good.

  • Aaron - This was great :-) I will be sure to check out your other stuff too.

    Very nicely filmed :-)

  • I have always loved your work ever since I knew you existed...I know that sounds stupid, but I love horror flicks.

  • Cool, thanks! I'd love it if you would watch my other movies. I have three more horror films here on YouTube (check "more from this user"), and you can buy my biggest movie to date, "The Yellow Sign", at Lurker Films (dot com).

  • Awesome! I'm gonna get me a cat and call it Tutu :D

  • Freaked me the f***k out

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • wow i love this

  • It's a cow-cat? (inside joke)

  • I remember that punchline, but not the joke. Old age sucks.

  • holy shit master pease! 5/5 anf fav!

  • I love it.

It's easy to see the Lovecraft influence in the video, but this old man also kinda reminds me of the old man with the cats in Logan's Run, and the ruler of the Universe in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.

    Cool mix. :)

  • This is wonderful and creepy. I love it.

  • Great work. Very minimalist but that just enhances the impact. It would have been nice to see it in B/W or sepia, since the Super 8 already gives the movie a distinct retro feel to it. It's Lovecraftian without being overt. There's a distinct Stephen King feel throughout as well.

  • I must confess I am really impressed.A brilliant actor, great idea and catchy development of insanity. HPL would be proud of you

  • Fabulous, Aaron! The Super 8 really works.

  • I enjoyed this at the HPL fest and it's just as good on a second viewing. The scratchy sound and other... noises really add to the creepiness. Long live Super 8!

  • Super 8...HEll YES!! Love the look and the audio quality. I saw this on the On the Lot website. You talk in your introduction about good story telling, but I think this is 3 min too long. As a viewer, I got bored as hell with all the repetition of ideas (the wife, tutu sleeping, etc). I'm into lovecraft, your target audience and thought I'd pass my thoughts along. It's been a real pleasure talk'n with you. A real pleasure.

  • Excellent film! Aaron does a wonderful job keeping this piece visually interesting. Creepy too!

  • Great short film Aaron, thanks for sharing it at Enigmacon.

  • This is a short little masterpiece! Blood and gore has its place in the horror film genre, but a film that is understated and subtle, as is Call of Tutu shows how imagination, scene, good dialogue and acting can offer the viewer more horrific enjoyment than a plethora of special effects will. Well done!

  • Nice work, Aaron!

  • Very enjoyable, the first person narrative structure really puts me in mind of classic Lovecraft.
