Found this clip after the recent disaster of Coasta Concrdia. I still remember the stories of the valor of the captain and the crew of Andrea Doria which saved many lives.

This song is more Titanic, 1500+ died. Though the 46 that died in this accident were lives as well. Titanic will always be in infamy. Dispite a ship being "Unsinkable" But yet more than 1500 deaths. Then with Radar on Andrea Doria, but yet, 2 ships, yet collide. Deaths, ruined lives. To say a ship is unsinkable is like saying a person can never die.

I was a passenger on the Andrea Doria on the Maiden Voyage that left Genova on Jan. 14, 1953. I was 15 and came to America with my mother to live in the USA. I remember the beautiful ship like it was yesterday and it is so sad to see it sink. The only thing I have to remind me of the trip are a few menus from our dinners, which I plan to give to my grandchildren as a memento. Thank you for your video.

In 1977 I traveled, with my parents, in Andrea,s sister ship. the Cristoforo Colombo..and..knowing the story of the ill fated Andrea Doria it was like travelling in a ghost ship. I LOVE both liners..and now BOTH are lost. Cristoforo was demolished in 1982..or so. I was in Cristoforo LAST voyage to Europe.I remeber her with affection, emotion, and I feel very proud to be in board of such a beautiful ship. Sorry for my english, but I want to share this recollection.. with all of you. Carlos

Just thinking about this tragedy brings shame and tears to my eyes, I mean, to think that the pride of my homeland would falter this bad. I mean, all of Italy literally sank right there and then. I consider this sadder than Titanic tragedy. Nothing can humiliate a republic more than the destruction of its prized ocean queen.

Originally the greater blame appeared to fall on the Italians but more recent evidense shows that greater fault falls on the Swedish ship. The italian captain saw the disaster coming and took proper action, the Swedes made the mistake. But I heard that the italian crew had abandoned the passengers..is that true?

I don't know about any cowardice the crew may have had but Cpt. Calamai was about to go with his ship until the crew were able to persuade him to board a lifeboat. Cpt. Calamai remained depressed the rest of his life after the disaster.

That is sad to hear. I think Cpt. Calamai is the only one that did everything correct to avoid the tragedy. Sad that he lived his last years like that. The facts show now (sadly too many years later) that more fault falls on the Capt. of the Swedish ship. Your italian Captain was the only one that did everything correctly to avoid the tragedy. I like that you didn't use the theme song for Titanic. "My Heart Will Go On" is defnitely over used. You also have a very good collection of photos and over all this is a very good movie. But I can think of several songs that would've been better. How about "Arrivaderchi Roma"? That's the song the band was playing when the collision occured.
