I was at the Pony that day, it was amazing. Tears were shed, laughter was heard...all for a man that touched the lives of millions without meeting them...
Where i have i been? i only learn of this 2 days ago..I see him with Bruce and the band in 1985 at wembley..and havent lost a memory of that awesome hot july 5th ( xtra date added to tour by demand ) gutted! :-(
The feeling when he passed is just one that is unexplainable. It's more than a just a band member. It's basically a member of your family who had passed. What he did for music and what he did for this band can never be explained. The smile, the site of the big man, the sound from the saxophone was just the most joyous thing. It still brings tears to my eyes when I listen to Clarence play. He changed music forever. "The change was made uptown and the Big Man joined the band." R.I.P. Big Man
god rest your immortal soul clarence " big man "! you help bruce turn in idea into over 40yrs of great music, no noone will ever play as brilliantly as you did. i know you already have your sax and your playing a tune for the lord jesus and the angels, i will see you there when my time is up on earth, love ya big man!!
Might have to retire Jungleland. I'm sure Bruce will find a fine replacement for Big Man, but it'll take a miracle for them to play Jungleland and have the fans accept it.
Great tribute!! RIP Clarence. You played that sax better than anyone. Not to mention you moved to the beat of every song with smoothness and never lost a beat..
I am 16 and I play tenor saxophone and Clarence was my number one idol, RIP Big Man, I may not have been around during your heyday but I can still look back and say he's the man!
Thank you Mr. Williams and staff, what a wonderful tribute. I took up playing sax in school because of his heartfelt solos. St. Peter: "hey, it's the Big Man! Clarence Clemons on the sassyphone! Sound check is in five so get up here!" God bless and keep The Big Man.
I just read Clarence Clemons' autobio. He was in so much pain from his double knee transplant. He was so much in love with his fifth wife, a woman from Russia who took care of him to the end of his life.
Do not mourn him. He lived his life to the fullest at the age of 69. His ashes have been spread over Hawaii, which he loved. Namaste, big fellow.
Once again Williams shows why he's the only anchor with class. Not bad for a guy that hung G.W bush out after Katrina and never got through the over rated pretence of colledge. The blue collar anchor that made it on smarts. Sorry to all those that struggle to make do with that Lib Arts degree in Russian lit. I hope my son loves Springteen and is the best plumber or diesel mechanic in the county. Because they haven't sold those jobs out yet.
ENGLAND LOVES YOU BIG MAN !! RIP BROTHER I HOPE I WILL SEE YOU ONE DAY IN HEAVEN SO I CAN SAY THANK YOU FOR ALL THE PLEASURE YOU GAVE ME !! !! RIP BIG MAN !!
Just an amazing presentation. What is the name of the song that's playing between 2:29-2:34? Anyone? Have been trying to figure it out for the longest time!
Clarence, you lived life well -- taking an impediment like a blown out knee when you're on your way to the NFL, and turning it into an opportunity to share your soul and musical talent with the public. Thanks for sharing and giving to us, you lived and you died, as each of us will. But, it is how you lived your life and what you gave to the world that earns you a special place, Thank you!
I just watched this again and I am weeping again. Clarence's ashes were spread over Hawaii, the place he loved the most. We love you so much and will never ever forget you, Big Man.
I can't stand Brian Williams, but this was a very lovely tribute to an amazing musician! "Jungleland" is such a moving song and Clarence's sax solo is so moving. There are songs that I enjoy and then there are songs that make me stop what I am doing, close my eyes, and listen to the beauty. That's what Clarence's touch on "Jungleland" does for me. RIP CC!
tears big tears as big as the big man himself thank you clarence for all the memories and sweet music forever in our hearts see you at the big gig in the sky we will rejoice once again love you big guy.....
Beautiful!! Thank you so much, Brian Williams - you may look like a straight-laced guy, but I've seen you on the Daily Show many times and not only do you have a great sense of humor, this tells me that you know and appreciate good rock and roll!! RIP Clarence - you will be greatly missed!

I take my hat off to Mr. Williams for this incredibly beautiful piece on The Big Man. This world was so lucky to have known Clarence Clemons. I am 21 years old and I discovered the music of Bruce back in 2005-2006 when I was a sophomore in High School. I actually had the honor and the privilege of seeing the full E Street Band (including Danny) back in 2008 and again in 2009. I am heartbroken that I will never see Clarence on a stage again. We will NEVER forget him or the music he gave us.
