  • Great Pictures, amazing atmosphere

  • I really want to find out who this guy is, and the band that he's playing with in a scene before this.

  • Apparently, the cellist (Fred Katz) is a member of a group called the "Chico Hamilton group".

  • The cellist is Fred Katz. He played with the Chico Hamilton Quintet. It was one of the really unique groups in jazz then, with very unusual instrumentation (reeds, cello, guitar, bass, drums). They then featured the future great Eric Dolphy on alto and flute. Hamilton (drums) is still alive and still touring with his current group. Katz went on to score films (original Little Shop of Horror), play with singers, arrange, write, and teach. He was still active a couple of years ago at age 88.

  • bluv6, thanks for the info! Do you know the name of the song that they perform in the bedroom together? It's the one that happens early on in the movie (before this interlude). Chico starts off the song with a 4 count I believe, and then hits a gong. I'm dying to know the name of that song, even tho it's incredibly short.

  • Anyone know who he is?

  • It's a Bach cello piece

  • Does anyone know what piece the cellist is playing?

  • I've no idea who the cellist is - but he's playing the prelude from Bach's first suite for cello. I love the way he stops to light up near the end
