  • who is playing the bass clarinet?

  • @g6martin that's Marcus Miller. Later he took bas guitar.

  • @danory i thot that was probable. of all the bass clarinet players i know, it looked most like marcus miller. thank you very much for responding.

  • God!!! This is the most sensual song i ever heard.

  • wtf? without intro? are you kidding me? is the best part of this shit!

  • @Lord88Sidious This is shit?.....GTFO

  • the best version...

  • Im naming my daughter layla because of this song. This song is so amazing i shared it with my wife and she is more than excited to name our daughter layla.

  • at 0:48 Clapton gave all the haters of his songs the finger

  • david sanborn, great solo

  • I almost like this version better than the original...never thought I'd say that!

  • eric could be a very good jazz crooner too!

  • Thats so sad that people like Justin Bieber get so many views.. But dear Eric here gets so little..

  • clapton is the man

  • @Berserkedy Yes I know that. But it shouldn't be in unison with the main melody line. wtf?!

  • a re elladara!bravo re file!

  • The guy on bass clarinet is annoying when Clapton started singing, following the main melody line (redundant). Then shifted to bass guitar!? Hopeless!!

  • @marusoako You do realize the bassline follows the melody in ever version of this song?

  • @marusoako People call him Marcus Miller

  • @Milaweak So?

  • LOVE THIS. BASS CLARINETIST WORD UPP

  • sax so sweeeeeeeeeeet n' tasty .......oh my my

  • I would LOVE to see cat power do a cover of this

  • Did someone know which year was this Montreux Jazz Festival?

  • @krupi13 Legends Live at Montreaux 1997

  • awesome...wonderful version

  • when you hear that riff, you know.

  • why without long intro? :( that's the most beautiful part of it

  • Clapton is always looking if he is in a extremly difficult situation .... he must be he is playing one of the epic 5 best songs ever

  • Is it Marcus Miller on the sax?

  • @bizzare1bizzare

Marcus Miller starts the song on bass clarinet.. The guy on the saxophone is Dave Sanborn.. He's really really good.. as you can hear..

  • marcus miller on the bass!!!!! just unbelieaveble

  • I agree, Mr. Marcus Miller is stellar on the bass and bass clarinet!

  • @BigRussOvBs9 MTV Unplugged, if that's your question.

  • OMFG , this is completly badass version

  • This sounds like Bill Murray's old lounge lizzard SNL skit. I can hear Murray on the refrain.

Perhaps this is Clapton's shot at self-parody....

  • Hell of alot better than that acoustic version

  • fuckinggg gooooodddddddd!! 5*

  • Clapton si chitara lui este "praful de stele"sau regina alba",care in joaca cu neuronii iti fura somnul, iti ia foamea, iti spulbera gandurile negre oferindu-ti in schimb nemurirea si nemarginirea. Devii ZEU printre pamanteni.Le lasi lor grijile, prejudecatile si inhibitiile tu pastrandu-ti doar puterea, dragostea, fericirea si implinirea care nu vor mai fii depasite decat de covarsitorul sentiment de uniune cu tot ceea ce te inconjoara.

  • Marcus Miller!!!

  • words cant explain how good this version is

  • too good

  • \O/ Cheer up fpr Dave xD

    dave is just amazing

  • Very tight performance by a bunch of VERY talented musicians. Clapton fell right in and made himself at home. Great rendition of a nearly perfect song, the only thing missing was Duane Allman on slide.

  • total eargasm during the sax solo.

  • @wilsonjrleon its a bass claranet and are you saying saxophones suck?! how dare you!

  • @coreymaster1369 you din t get what i said .i was not talking about the bass clarinet, i was talking about the amazing sax solo @ 3;21.

  • that's an awesome job ;)

  • Is that Marcus Miller in the beginning on the bass clarinet?

  • Yup.

Marcus Miller - Bass clarinet/Bass guitar

    Eric Clapton - Guitar

    Steve Gadd - Drums

    Dave Sanborn - Saxophone

    Joe Sample - Keyboard

Check out their show in Montreux 1996 under the name "Legends" :)

  • Thank you :)

  • 1996?

    i think 1997^^

  • @pdetremerie yes, that's him. later he switches to the bass ;)

  • Thank you, Pietia19

  • yeah its Marcus Miller:X love so much this performance:X

  • Yes, that's him.

  • fuck rockband. play guitar for real

  • thats tight

  • Semplicemente SPETTACOLARE!!!!!! WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they need to realese this for rock band

  • yeah awesome version ...!! love it

  • This song is just mind blowing. I luv everything about it.........Its MY SONG!!!!!!!!

  • OMG A BASS CLARINET XD

and everyone tells me bass clarinets cant do jazz -_-

  • Whoever told you that is dumb. Any instrument can play Jazz. Jazz is about the player, not the instrument.

  • every video i see of this claptons middle finger is extended so long lol

  • This piece is absolutely awesome. I could hear this a hundred times and wouldn´t get tired of it. Thank you, Eric Clapton!

  • I'd love to sing this to my girlfriend, petty I can't sing, because this version is laced with so much soul and passion that a can't think of a better way to convey my feelings

  • @chongwong lol, looking back at this made me laugh :P it lasted about 3 weeks after that ...

  • OH MY GOD! I play bass clarinet, I must learn this. This is quite possibly one the most badass thing I've ever seen.

  • Well,i know that you will get me wrong, but noone reaches Nathan East on Bass in harmony with Eric

  • i love it!!

  • who's on bas clarinet?

  • Marcus Miller did the bass and bass clarinet

  • who's on bas clarinet?

  • the sax man is marcus miller?

  • Not according to this list:

    Eric Clapton - guitar, vocals

    Marcus Miller - bass

    David Sanborn - saxophone

    Joe Sample - keyboards, piano

    Steve Gadd - drums

  • jazz 4ever ((:

  • Beautiful!!!!!

  • This is not very jazzy compared to... jazz... They just added a bass clarinet or some such (I don't know clarinets too well) and had a sax solo. The essence of the song was still Clapton on accoustic sounding mostly like Clapton on accoustic.

  • pff....Listen to what the piano is playing..I would say that this is more similar to blues (but blues is a lot like jazz, isn;t it? :D )

  • Thanks for your comments

  • the jazz version is so much better than the normal version

  • this "long intro" was "in a sentimental mood" by duke ellington...

  • Great Saxophone solo

  • That "long intro" not appearing here was the jazziest thing about this version of Layla.

  • 0:45 HaHa!!

  • To 'orbisonroad',

Well spotted ! (I like your sense of humor)

  • hahahaha

  • Another great ( and interesting) version of a great song !

(raw passion held in check and put into good jazz)

  • yeah clapton is a great blues man good song but i prefer on mtv unplugged too much blues

  • Thanks for the comments

  • that is a very cool version

    the sax solo is amazing

  • very nice
