Even though it says "Fire Door", at that McDonalds, that door had its own localized alarm that was not connected to ant fire alarm control panel. Opening this door is usually not illegal, as dispatch does not get called. All they have to do is insert the key and twist and the alarm stops. Even though that local alarm went off, you guys didn't have to evacuate, that is just an alarm that keeps people from opening that door. Take it from someone who knows and has had experience with them.

When you open a fire exit, it just sets off the door alarm on it. Not the fire alarm.
