What most of you are missing here is that while a reporter has every right to cover a story they are not allowed to break the law doing it. Stopping in the middle of a divided highway is ILLEGAL. It's as simple as that and exactly why news agencies share footage and buy helicopters. It's not like the police officer didn't give them many chances to leave before being arrested.

@cpowellrun So what about when they drive up the street at night with no lights on? Is that being safe to? I'm damn sure if I did that I'd get stopped and fined for it. They law states you have to have your headlamps on no later then 30 min after the sun has gone below the Sunset.

Yes the media has the right to film in a safe manner and from a public location, however to maintain good rapport with law enforcement the reporter and his cameraman should have left when asked. I doubt they will be welcomed at very many newsworthy incidents now.

I noticed many cars obstructing the traffic in front of this one, but I was not there. Being a free lance photographer I prepare everyday to be arrested because of the way this country is going. If we don't stand up for our rights then we will end up in a Nazi run style of country.
What happened to freedom? Where has it gone? How do we get it back?

He is causing obstruction on that highway, I'm from Scotland and I know if you done that sort of thing you would be arrested. It's dangerous. I think what he was saying is that he wants people to put it into perspective. I don't agree with the cop, neither, but I agree with squacher on the fact that regardless of what happened in this video, Americans (and Canadians) are very lucky to have the police that we do...because they don't have authority like they do in dictatorships, i.e. El Salvadorian death squads.

You all should get together and change the laws then. Because right now if you resist arrest or disobey authority of the police the police have the authority to use force to put you in submission.
