  • Ah, Ranai! ^_^

  • What kind of blade is Long Hanshi using here? Most iaito and even shinken would bend after getting a beating like that from a jo.

  • @Gunyo Up to my knowledge Kyoshi Car Long uses Paul Chen Cas Iberia swords, they do have to be changed freequently from the damage they take.

  • Judo is better than jodo lol

  • @Doctoratkins You're joking right? Grappling vs a 5 foot staff? Your skull would be shattered in seconds.

  • @george385 judo/jodo same thing

  • @Doctoratkins no it's wrong: jodo is based on techniques with weapons, stick, judo techniques are melee and mean two different things: judo is way of gentleness, jodo is way of stick...they are different and are tow different martial arts.

  • @Lex8919 Judo with a stick

  • @Doctoratkins Judo is not with stick....jodo isn't judo with stick, is another martial arts...

  • Holy moley awesome stupendous great!!!! What a tremendous and humbling honor to be trained by Hanshi!

  • jodo should be introduced into the kendo curriculum in order to understand more about the sword.

  • @jung567 Alot of Kendoka will try Jodo - I did but not enough days in the week (Iaido, Kendo, Kenjutsu - Niten Itchi Ryu). If you want to understand moire about the sword - Iaido is the way to go.

  • @george385 thanks george

  • @george385 What style Iai?

  • @ronin2167 I practice Seiti Iai and Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iai.

  • @ronin2167 Kyoshi Carl Long is presently ranked 7th Dan Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu, 5th dan Okinawa Kobudo, 4th dan Shindo Muso Ryu Jojutsu, among others. The syle demonstrated here with Hanshi Shimabukuro is SMR Jojutsu/Jodo

  • @fmn2628 are they affiliated with the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei?

  • Hanshi Shimabukuro is one of the most knowledgeable and honorable martial artists I have ever known..I am honored to call him my friend and teacher...OSU

    Sensei Adam Seyedin

    USA KYOKUSHIN KARATE ACADEMY

  • I realise that doing Jodo with an iaito on the tachi side is not exactly orthodox but are they demonstrating the ZNKR Seitei version of Ran Ai or the Koryu version. If the latter, which sensei did Shimabukuro Sensei train under?

  • Well according to his website, Shimabukuro studied Jodo under Takeyuki Hidefusa Miura who in turn studied under Nakajima Asakichi.

The site also says he was made 7th dan in 1999.

  • That is because he is not using a iaito; this is a steel blade.

  • Sharp!

  • I love this so much. Wish I could come out to California in October.

  • i love ran'ai :D

  • Wonderful, always nice to watch Shimabukuro sensei..
