hate the way dj's are well back from the crowd now, back in the late 80s when acid house parties really kicked off, the dj was usually bang in the middle of the party!
i think they pushed the dj back to avoid annoying people requesting house or drunkenly falling into the decks. back in the 80s you had a better concept of respect and no alcohol. now you have way more people rolling off their tits and drinking vodka which results in a total lack of respect and stupidity. in addition to that, in this video, i think they might be dealing with feedback issues on the turntables from the floor monitoring.
