Whenever somebody blows a line... expect Jerry "shredding" afterward. Some of the best songs I've heard were "after" somebody messes up ! Espepicially if Jerry is the culprit... WOW. I like 89's, but there are some unbelieveable 94's (whereby this time Welnick wasn't all overdoing it harmonizing department like he does here). This is a great Jack Straw (musically) but you Jerry's vokice is a little on the weak side tonight and Welnick's vocals are intrusive. Excellent Jack Straw though.
@jonathan13holland - There is a plethora of incredible Jack Straws - I will check out that Eugene one --- 4 sure - this is a sick tune all around :) This one doesn't suck -
I ALSO WAS THERE THAT NIGHT- lsd and the dean dome do not a good match make! great show althought i was very confused and the universe started spinning....
I was there. Energy was killer. I remember looking down at the floor all freaking out at hyper speed at the end. GDTRFB and LSD that night. Very cool indeed.
I think it's fair to say that spring of '93 was their last really good tour....Check out the first set from the final night at Nassau in '93..Black Throated, Music, Deal were amazing!!!
JS Cornell 77 Shoreline Sept 17 , 94 on GDH 317 The Other ones in Philly in 1998 . I was there and taped it . Balls out , gorgeous version I d love to see a fan video of march 11 93 , Rosemont IL Thats one of my favourite gd performances . The best Help>slip>F . The entire show should be a vault release by the Dead , but a matrix mix , as the SBD sounds very cold & brittle . But a good audience tape sounds like heaven
there is also a killer Jack from Eugene in 93...Bobby was having trouble with his equipment mid jam and Jerry just ripped solos off left right and centre for a good 5 minutes before the final verse. check it out if you can.
I was on the floor at that Eugene Show... Weir's rig crapped out and Garcia just unloaded while Bobby tried to straighten things out. That's still the most extended Jack Straw I've heard
@levitatingyogi I was at that show and you are so right, words cannot describe the feeling that was washing over the crowd when Bobby left the stage. Jerry just absolutely took control, the ring leader, Captain Trips, and Bob was gone for a bit, Jerry just kept lifting up his guitar and signaling for the boys to try to keep up. As soon as Bobby walked back on stage with a new guitar, plugged in, turned around, Jerry slipped the rip and they thundered; "JACK STRAW FROM WITCHITA......!!"
I agree , the solo is great . 93 was a really crisp year for their music . I remember acquiring this from a friend in spring 94 . What a show . JS from Bonner springs KS 91 is a great one too . Thanks for posting this shipofthesun
fucking awesome Jack Straw!!! i was there and remember it to this day. i'm from Kansas - North Carolina and Kansas were in the NCAA tournament at the same time this tour was happening - Chapel Hill was CRAZY!!! the UNC was AWESOME (and being a KU nut i know a good college campus when i see it)... thanks for posting this...
This could be my favorite Jack Straw on youtube.

Nice solo by Garcia but for 1991-1995 nothing comes close to the Jack Straw from Eugene 8.22.93. Nothing.

I have that Eugene '93 Jack Straw on tape. I noticed that the jam seemed much, much longer than usual.
