  • I have bo idea what he just said o.o

  • I actually really got the lyrics in 505 and brainstorm from having a bad experience being lead on by a girl. without sounding too sappy those songs really spoke to me after that.

  • transcript!

  • Haha god damn their accents man, thanks for the translation though

  • "People trying to sat A certain romance is like a snap shot into Shefield... is it fuck" hahaha what a guy

  • Fucking Sheffield accents.

  • HAHAAHH turn on the Transcribe Audio beta auto caption and laugh :D

  • Am I right?

  • First he starts off saying that his songs are satirical somewhat but that they also contain an element of "celebration", and that he is talking about other people but that his personality and experiences are injected into his subjects to an extent. He then goes on to talk about how people say to him that his music is like a snapshot of Sheffield but that he believes it to be a bit more universal than that, and says that people just have a tendency to feel entitled to things.

  • Thanxxsss

& Yeah he is rambling the songs :)

But I love him too :]

  • i love him but i don't khow what he's saying could someone tell me?

  • basically he's just rambling on the songs and how he writes them from his point of view or about himself. and then he goes on to tell a story about his experience observing people in sheffield and how it plays a role in his song writing.

    love him though.

  • didn't realise nelly was a band :O

  • That comment turned me on tbh

  • and I donno this is easy to understand.

  • andy didn't contribute anything to that interview besides a very loud cough hahaha

  • Wow, what idiot bought the domain name for the website?

  • haha i know it looks like arctic monkeys suk

    love arctics!

  • I dont understand him very much :( but I still love him! lol

  • Me too ( or me either)

  • Yorkshire accent. It's actually not hard to understand him. It's just sometimes he mumbles, kind of. But if he's saying things clearly, it's understandable. Hehe

  • Fuck i'm italian i don't understand a phrase

  • typical english man

  • Who Alex? lol, he's not really a typical Englishman, maybe a typical Yorkshire man... though I'm not sure there is such a thing. What is a typical Englishman like? I'd love to know :-p.

  • yeh hes got a yorkshire accent so dont diss

  • hey, English guys, do U understand him at all?

  • I think the guy at his left hand is looking and him and thinkin' "I don't understand the english of this man". Sorry, I am joking, as a student of english, and after staying in Liverpool I think I'll never understand english well.

  • I mean...lookin' at him he he

  • I'm a North-Easterner, my accent is quite thick too. Yorkshire, and the North-East where it's hard to understand. Liverpool can be quite hard too because of the Scousers like. People from Abroad tend to find the London accent easier to understand. My ex is Japanese, and she learned English and London, I met her in Leeds and she couldn't understand anyone because they all have a similar accent to Alex in the video, lol. We ended up splitting up because she couldn't understand me either, lol.

  • What a sad end =)

  • let's bet that he's gonna sleep! haha lol xD

  • he look like hes about to fall asleep

  • love um .. their so bloody amazing

  • Is he drunk or I'll never be able to understand english language

  • uh no? i think you just dont understand his accent and he's is kina cute slow when he talks haha lol

  • In Britain there are many accents across the countries, and particularly the Yorkshire, North Eastern, and Scottish highland accents are very hard to understand at times. I'm from the North East of England, but literally 2 miles away from the Yorkshire border, and I live in Leeds these days in Yorkshire, so all the accents are easy for me. And I go to Scotland on holiday a lot, so that one too. English, when spoken by a Southerner, is easier for foreigners I think.

  • sometimes he just mumbles a bit, when he speaks clearly you can easily understand him

    and im from australia

  • Yes maybe. But the American accent is easier than all British accents

  • It sounds disgusting though, the American accent is too heavy on vowels and the R sound. The American accent is only easier to understand because we hear it so much on the TV. In Asia they don't get as much American TV, and from my experience they all prefer the London English accent.

  • You areabsolutely right on the thing you said about " the R sound". But I listen to British music much more than American and it's easier to get the American.

To me ( I'm French) it's like The British fake their accent. I know they don't but their accent seems so not natural

  • You probably just hear more of the American accent because of TV and films which makes it sound more natural. A lot of British music at the moment is northern, and we have a lot of very thick accents in the North lol (I'm also a northerner).

When you hear the Southern French accent (assuming you're from North of France here, like Paris or somewhere), does it sound put on?

  • You're right : I'm from Paris ( the suburbs). And it's true some Southern French accents sounds weird too. Sometimes unbearable.

  • lol, I tried to find regional French accents on youtube but couldn't find any, you should make a video and put on some different accents, it'd be really cool, :-p. Look up the geordie accent on youtube, for one that resembles people from where I'm from (most my family is Yorkshire though so I don't sound very geordie :-/).

    Dan

  • Oh gosh this geordie accent o_O.

I mean is there any British accent slightly understandable? London, Northern, Scottish : I don't know even the one I can understand the most

  • FanDeLionelMessi is my brother. I accidentally used his account

  • why do you say london and scotland? what the fuck! london is a city scotland is a country and icorporates lots of accents.

  • it's not geordie

  • A very specific accent is the one from Quebec ( Canada). You can hear it in the movie " C.R.A.Z.Y." that you can find on the channel of strollingdoll . When I saw this film on TV they put subtitles so that it could be understood by the French ( the Quebecois also have their own expressions which are sometimes taken from American vocabulary)

  • lol, I just looked up the Quebecois accent, it sounds to me like Americans speaking French, how very odd :-s. Most British accents are only found among the working classes, for some reason the Middle and upper classes all speak quite posh (though some more than others). You could probably understand most people in England, especially in the South, and as long as they're not from a poor background. Is France the same like that?

  • No. In fact I've heard in some movies people from upper classes speaking a kinda faked accent but I'never heard this accent in real life ( maybe it does exist ). There's a country-side accent ( in the Berry for example) : people roll the R's. Besides English do roll the R's sometimes , don't they?

  • In the Berry? Upper classes don't fake the accent... I don't know what it is, they just speak more classy, lol. You will have heard the accent, it's the standard BBC type accent. There isn't a countryside accent because it changes depending on where you are in the country, lol. I think you mean the Cornwall accent, that's where they roll their Rs, :-). Most English people don't really roll their Rs, just Cornish people :-p.

  • I meant French upper classes of course. And I was talking about French countryside also.

Berry is a region in France

  • Ah okay, I thought you were talking about England, sorry. I've never really heard many French accents, but then again I've only been to France twice and both times I was too young to even know French... or English in the first case. I might go again at some point, and while I'm there I'll make sure to travel to the berry, and other places :-p.

  • Quebecois don't sound like Amercans speaking French. They aren't even Americans.

Sure they don't have a pure dialect, but not many Americans (or even Canadians) can pull off Quebecois sounds. It's just too unnatural.

  • Yeah, I realise that quebecois is Canadian, not American, but I have heard Americans speaking French, and it does sound similar. Maybe you could say they sound like English-speaking canadians speaking French, but then again, apart from the quebecois accent I've never heard a canadian speak French so I can't comment on that.

    Dan

  • Sorry if I interrupt this conversation but I would just like to add that Quebecois and Americans speak French in a very different way to me, I mean listen to Celine Dion speaking in French and then to some American actor or singer or whatever, and you'll hear the difference.

(I'm French so I can tell you it's veeeeery different to us lol)

  • It would be fun to show some French accents but I don't have any camera =(

Maybe you can find some interesting french accents by typing "ch'ti" ( very Northern people), " Marseille" , " Toulouse" , "Perpignan".

  • he seems high or something

  • he's not high omg get a grip!

  • dont understand why people get so pissed about things like that i mean so what if he's high it really isn't anything. would you stop listening to them if you it turned out he was smoking weed? I wouldn't cuz who the fuck cares.

  • too bad the sound isn't working properly :(

  • What?

    lol.

  • love you alex, but can't understand you...

  • I don't like the interview. He is unexpressive, inarticulate.

  • no he's not!

not all people are expressive and articulated

  • ne1 want to chat?

  • i love alex's accent, but i don't understand anything of what he says... he talks so fast.. lol

  • he talks slowly, haha!

that's us yorks' lot for you...x

  • So Yorks typically talk slowly?

  • Alex always get lost in his words. I stop paying attention after a minute and a half in every interview =)

But he is a terrif lyricist though

  • lol yeah at 1.27 that made me laugh.

  • They're a good band. Their second album is good. Their first was a bit generic, but their second has a different tone altogether.

  • Stop it at 1:27. That Andy's look! Lol Oh, how can resist them? :D The best band of the 21. century.

  • Comment removed

  • Some of the most talented writers are inarticulate. Maybe that's why they're such good writers.

  • exactly

  • So true. Words cannot express how much I love this comment.

  • is he high?

i cant understand him! ahah (L)(L)

  • Alex is NOT high!!! He is just like that!

  • hhhhh

  • ...

  • In the middle Alex starts to stop mumbling and you can understand it but most of the time it is a little hard to understand. Love the Arctic Monkeys!

  • ow can you not understand it?

  • god.

    this video seriously needs subtitles..

i REALLY want to know what they're saying but i can't understand it..

  • I LOVE THE ARCTIC MONKEYS AND ALEX TURNER

    x

  • it is hard to understand, but its not all their accent...he's kind of mumbling and the recording is a little weird, like echo-y

  • i don't think that that's easy to understand, i love the arctic monkeys a lot, though.

  • im malaysian which is FARRR of frm sheffield and i understand him perfectly

  • same here lol sounds normal to me

  • im from sheffield so every word he speaks jus sounds normal n easy 2 understand

  • i can hardly understand what hes saying!

  • Stop moaning about now understanding them ! I am dutch and I understand what he's saying.. just try your best and open your ears.

  • am from sheffield un i can undastand evryfin hes sayin he int tlkin difficult t undastand hes tlkin normal like a doo .

  • its not that hard to understand, u wankers lol

  • it is hard

  • wtf?

    I can't understand him.

    he's mumbling.

  • haha, I'm from yorkshire so to me it's all easy lol. He says at the beginning that in a lot of the songs when he sings about a specific person it's quite often a 3rd person view of himself. He's sayin that the meanings of their songs aren't just a reflection of sheffield but a reflection of people in general regardless of how they dress/what they listen to etc. Hope that helped :)

    Dan

  • can u tell me some more about that? because i can't understand everything but i want to :D

  • thanks! =)

  • usually i understand wat he's

    saying

but in this interview it's really hard!!

i catch some words but never a whole sentence

    lol

this kinda sucks since i am really interested in wat he has to say about his lyrics!!!

  • he says summat instead of something, so why expect to understand everything he speaks. it's easier than listening to pete doherty do an interview

  • i can't stand when people can't understand the british. open your fuckin' ears you lazy shits.

  • we wont

  • Its not rude at all thats how he is and how he talks.

  • Uhgh. This sucks. I can't hear what he's saying, and I want to know EVERYTHING about their lyrics. :'(

  • when i hear them here

    i can understand them,

    but at their concert

    everyone was like

what the hell are they saying?

    lol

  • i was pissing myself throughout. he just mumbles and you cant understand a crap hes saying...

  • ok woah. I gt like little words but just couldn't put them all together! That was interesting!

  • what the hell is he saying xD LOL he's accent in the songs is lovely but in a interview is like chinese to me xD

  • I got that too.

  • true yorkshire talent!!!

  • Then he is talking about a certain romance and how people have commented that its a snapshot of sheffield but really its an observation of everything of people [though he supposes that he can only observe people from sheffield cos thats where hes from].its not having a pop at sheffield its talking about certain type of people. etc. etc. it wouldnt fit in the comment.

  • lol hes not that hard to understand

he says that his lyrics do have an element of sneering but they can be a celebration. when he does sneer or make comments about characters in his songs its often himself he has been one or both characters in his lyrics. Eg. bigger boys and stolen sweethearts now hes grown up he can put himself in their roles. So hes not always sneering about stuff.

  • lol there should be a transcript :P

though i understand it cos im from lancashire.

    ahh alex is geeenius. =]

  • 888...

  • aha, I think that if your not from Yorkshire or the surrounding areas, then you're probably not gonna understand a word he's saying.

First half of it he's on about 'Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts', and the second half of the vid hes on about 'A Certain Romance'

  • andy looks excited xd x

  • yeah me too, but they're sooo nice :p

  • i cant understand it either usally i can mabye the day after a big night?? dunno

  • i think he was saying

    hobjelhukneewooduhdrummeranthenthemuhuhahuhehlikingcertainpeoplearcticmonkeysdude.

  • yes. that was what i understood too xDDDD

  • someone please tell me what the fuck he is saing? :0

its like he is talking to his collar :|

but i luv him tho ;)

  • other interview click my name and my vids will show up enjoy

  • i understood most of it, n my 1st language isn't even english

  • Oh good, I suppose you wouldnt mind putting down what he said then.

  • i agree. wtf is he saying. damn my american... ness?

  • i dont understand ): well.. not all of it.. he talks as if he was dyin or.. die-ing ..i dont know
