Iggy & The Ramones had in common Danny Fields, who managed The Stooges, and later The Ramones. It was Danny who had the bright(?) idea to have each Ramones band member adopt "Ramone" as a surname.

Iggy said Fields tried it with The Stooges,e.g. trying to get Iggy Pop to call himself "Iggy Stooge", but the band resisted. Ramones went along with Fields. Ig on The Ramones' surname: "Danny finally got his 'Muppets' band"! Ha ha.
