The nuclear bomb was something completely new; nothing like it had been done before and it changed the world. As opposed to equipping soldiers, why not attempt to replace the soldier (as an example).

@theelephanttaco No, I am not saying that. I am saying that a better rifle is still just a rifle. It may be better, but it's function and use are the same (though possibly expanded). And sure, building bigger might be better, but it's not going to make a noticeable (at least by my standards) change (I'll give you example if you like). And sure, terminators (though I don't believe our AI is adequate) would be cool: Better aim, strength, faster, a variety of built in functions

@theelephanttaco mistake 1: you won't ever find a case of splitting a hydrogen atom. Hydrogen has a proton, nothing else, and thus cannot be fissioned.
As to cars, possibly materials, idk. I'm saying that the EFFECT they have is the same. And no, nukes aren't just a bomb. Bombs take out buildings, nukes take out cities. That's on a scale of it's own that changes a war. Apart from entirely new weaponry, what advance in a specific type of weapon has made such a huge change?

Bombs, cars, riffles, and basically every manufactured good are created, designed, and tested through science. Every change to different models, types, and brands makes them better and specialized. Those are just categories, but that fact doesn't take away from them being completely different! If what you are saying is true why is a Mercedes more expensive then a Toyota. . .

This is because they are made with different design philosophies, intended purposes and above all, are different. Just because they fall into the same BROAD GENERALIZED classification doesn't mean they're the same and interchangeable. We still use riffles and bombs because they work not because we cant think of anything else. Trust me we have new weapons. That was ignorant.

I've seen it about the advent of the machine gun, dynamite, the nuke, but never about a new rifle model.
