  • Stan Katsen and Mike Babcock should just rot in hell for allowing one of the GREATEST players in Atlanta Hawks history for a player that didn't want to be in the ATL. I see why many people in the ATL don't show up at many games (unless the Lakers or Heat, or somebody came to town). Btw, I'm from New Bern, NC, a half-hour from Washington.

  • @thatdudecozz89 I agree 100%....

  • I remember watching CNN and Nick Charles annoucing the trade. I cried like a baby.

Leading the Central Division and Kasten trades him for Manning.

the Hawks were on a roll with Mookie and Kevin Willis.

I think Jordan was out of the NBA at that time.

The Hawks could have challenged for the Eastern title that year.

Nique never had a guy like McHale or Aquirre to go along aside him.

  • @Chrisy70 I remember my dad telling me that Nique was traded and saying "Naw you lying"...then Munson/Van Note announced it on radio...

You had the best record not just the East, in BASKETBALL.....no Jordan...that was the opportunity that Kasten/Babcock and L.Wilkens punted away...

  • Nique gave atl everything he had, and they traded him after all the tickets sold and playoffs apearences, it just proves the owners don't give two cents about the players. When they think you aren't profitable they trade or release you.I don;t have a problem these new players saying f that and trying to get rings let them team up.

  • @sjgilley lmao

  • you may lose your knees, but you dont lose your touch.

  • his shoes had to be heavy as shit

  • Okay i didnt know he wasnt in the top 50 and thats just RIDICILOUS ! everybody leaving out nique from the top 50 doesnt know anything about the game.

  • Nique is not a top 50... He's a top 30 as it was said in this piece. The 85'-88' Hawks had a supporting cast of Cliff Levingston, Tree Rollins, Randy Wittman, John Battle, Spud Webb, Antonie Carr, Jon Koncak, to go with Kevin Willis (1 time replacement all star) and Doc Rivers (1 time all-star). And he had to battle a loaded east with the Pistons, Celtics, Bulls, Cavs, Knicks, etc

  • Atlanta Management = Rich Idiots.

Nique traded, Marvin over CP3 and D Will, No grabbing a C when it's that obvious that Smoove and Al will kill at the 3 and 4, Max contract for Joe Johnson (inflated number because of Woody's Iso-Joe offense)

  • 2 dunk contests = ROBBED (Spud and Jordan in Chicago)

NBA 50 Greatest = ROBBED (I hate Pippen to this day)

NBA Championship = ROBBED (Hawks management)

  • @chambervision24 thank you! he was one of the top 25 greatest of all time. what the hawks did to nique by trading him like that was just criminal. he always showed class even like you stated he was robbed in chitown in the dunk costest. he had jordan beat. pippen & shaq should not be on that list b4 nique.

  • For what it's worth, Stan Kasten, Pete Babcock or none of dem fucks can ever show their faces in Atlanta ever again. What sense does that make? Keep Jon Koncak for YEARS in a city where NONE of the fans want him and trade your franchise's best player the only year we get the #1 seed....for Danny Manning....who didn't even want to re-sign....and they knew that when they traded for him. 'Nique's been robbed his whole career. Hook-nosed, sidekick Pippen took his spot on the NBA 50 Greatest.

  • that trade was a dickmove

  • damn poverty aint a joke this dude went thru so much! Well Mr Wilkins you've been THE MAN since u were 12 and you still r to dis day

  • Watching this video series just brought back the memories.Nique was a victim of a strong era.MJ, Bird,Magic, Dr J,Kareem to name a few.Atlanta never built a team around him capable of challenging during a time of such strong team basketball, Celtics, Lakers, Bulls just to name a few. When i see guys of today doing a windmill dunk i think of Nique, i bet he influenced alot of these modern day players.I still miss one of the sweetest movers of the game he had it all, the game and the looks.

  • I remember all the media guys hating on Dominique at the end of his career, so called basketball experts, purists, guys who probably never picked up a bball in their lives! I see so many similarities with the way Alen Iverson is getting treated now, he gets called selfish and not a team player. Players with talent, heart, and supreme confidence are so rare, those 2 guys were over-flowing with those things. Those to guys changed our ideas of what's humanly possible on a basketball court ! miss em

  • I love this man so much, I named my son after him. he is also a sports gurue! Dominique Timbers, football.

  • I love this man so much, I named my son after him. he is also a sports gurue! Dominique Timbers, football.

  • I THOUGHT DOMINIQUE WAS ONE OF THE 50 GREATS. BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT

  • great upload my friend, appreciated!

  • NIQUE WAS ONE OF THE 15 BEST PLAYERS IN THE NBA. 1979 YOU SHOULD OF BEEN THERE. LET'S FORGET THE PERSONEL THINGS AND CONCENTRATE ON BASKETBALL. LOVE YOU MAN KEEP IT REAL AND KEEP IT MOVING. TYRONNE WILLIAMS SR 1979 WASHINGTON PAM PACK FOREVER. I WAS THERE. SO FORGET THE NEGATIVE, CONCENTRATE ON THE POSITIVE. THIS IS REAL. I GREW UP WITH HIM. A GENTLEMAN AND A SCHOLAR AND A GOOD FRIEND. NIQUE DO YOUR THING, CONCENTRATE ON THE LITTLE FUTURE B/BALL PLAYERS. PEACE TY

  • He won a european champion with Panathinaikos . Unfortunatelly, in the narrow-minded american culture the only champion is only at States .

The truth is that USA lost by Greek national team (among other teams) . A team of a 10.000.000 people country .

  • I still can't believe Wilkins wasn't named one of the top 50 greatest NBA players. Whats wrong with the NBA who's the people who chosed the top 50? Wilkins was a 9 Time All-Star, 7 Time All-NBA Team, 1 Time Scoring Champion, hes 3rd All Time in points per minute, 2 Time Slam dunk Champion. Did they just like forget about him? Instead of him they named Bill Walton top 50. Bill was injured 90% of his career and only made 2 All-Star games and also O'Neal who was like what 25 at that time.

  • For better or worse, Danny Manning is a dirty word in my house

  • Poor Nique...one of the greatest to not wina title. He deserved it too, he just wasn't lucky enough to ona team that had what it took to win the title. His situation would have been like the bulls without Pippen, Paxon etc. His team was a one mna show, not by choice, but cos he had too. Much respect to Nique.

  • damn nique must've been felt the sweetness of vengeance march 24th, he destroyed his own team haha.

  • wilkins was amazing, but yes, he didnt really played for the team,,, a pity, he had the potential to be one of the greatest. i havent seen the top 5o, but one thing is sure, dominic wilins is the first word in your mind when you hear atlanta... that's a big thing and should deserve having him on the top 50... great player!

  • sadly, Dominique didnt get into the top 50 greatest players. I say he is one of the greatest & a hall of famer for sure. But he was somehow overlooked.

  • Everyone says Wilkins didn't have an all round game - for an player whose job it was to put the ball in the basket, he still pulled down 6.5 boards a game and averaged about 1.5 steals a game for his career. Fair that his all round stats don't compare to say Scottie Pippen, but Scottie never dropped 30 a game during his playing days. Not being selected as one of the top 50 players in the NBA was a rort.

  • That's because Pippin didn't take near, as many shots a game as Wilkins did.

  • Niques Mom and sisters were selfish.

  • ahh yeah youre way off

  • I came to basketball because of this guy then one day the hawks played the bulls and he got pushed aside. Dominique might have won a few more games even a championship if he had trusted his team mates more. Great story though.

  • nique had a tough career

  • Pretty good "beyond the glory," for dominque.. but i didn't like the ending much... however, nice story from 1-3.

  • I feel bad for Nique, having to be in the midst of a bunch of people trying to control him. You take care of family, but that doesn't mean they own you. The dude was a grown man, and his mother is getting pissed because he's getting married. Grow up. Common story with these pro athletes, though.

  • Agreed, had the Hawks not traded Dominique to the LA Clippers for Danny Manning, they would have been contending for an NBA Championship at that time back in 1994. Who knows? When the Hawks' upper management made that move to trade Nique for Manning, it was like WTF are they thinkin? It was definitely one of the worst NBA trades I have ever seen by Hawks' upper management at that time.

  • I'm a Laker fan, but I watched a number of Hawks gms that year on Turner. They were def a legit contender THAT year if never before. I rem a good gm at the Omni against GS that Sprewell won at the buzzer.

Seems to me they had to decide whether they wanted to ride out 1994 or look toward the future (and he DID hit the wall hard in 95 w/ BOS). They F'd up on 2 counts: making the trade, and making the trade for Manning, who made no bones about wanting to go to PHX, even while w/ LA.

  • I can't stand when families try to control their children. THE WIFE OR HUSBAND is #1. End of story. Of course, Domonique is going to defend his wife. That is his wife.

  • wrong my children and mother come before any woman i learned that the hard way ...

  • What's the point of having children unless it is for the right reasons. I can see if you are divorced and have kids and then you meet a woman. Otherwise, you're wife comes first. Just like the husband comes first.

  • ur wrong first ur mother then ur children then your wife...

  • that lil college student, jus wanted a cash cow. cant stand her. think she uppity

  • Pistol did win a championship with the celtics, he just rode the bence, like bill walton

  • No he didnt'. Pistol quit before the 1980-1981 season. Pistol was on the 1979-1980 team that lost to the Sixers in 5.

  • Pimp ass Evander Holyfield was at the wedding too. Those were the days.

  • the reason he's not in the top 50 is because he did not win a nba championship

  • neither did elgin baylor, charles barkley, dave bing, pat ewing, george gervin, karl malone, pete maravich, john stockton and nate thurmond. nique deserve to be on that list somewhere. he help reinvent the game, made atlanta relevant, still did things that havent been done today, great ambassador. the dunks confused people of his image. nique was not one of my favorites but his credentials speak lound and his skills were ridiculous.

  • ye ur rite, pete maravich never won a ring cuz he never lived long enuff but hes still a sick player,metayer7 is dumb

  • & Shaq during that time too.

  • @JayVenom

how can a person have done things that havent been done today

  • @Sanmi4real

I am trying to see what really is your question. basically I am saying is that, he did dunks that no player has done since then and all the way until now. i always thought he was the best in game dunker in the nba, at least in the top 3. (carter, kemp, jordan, etc)

  • Thats true i'd still have to say that as good and nique and jordan were, Vince was better to me. but Shawn kemp was crazy too.

  • This show let Lenny Wilkens totally off the hook re: the Nique trade. It broke my heart, Nique's heart, Atlanta's heart. That team could have contended for the title in an MJ-less year. The franchise has NEVER recovered.

  • damn u goota be kidding his wife still looks good at 40

  • ooooooooooo yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • who is danny manning?

  • Danny Manning didn't suck. He starred on the Kansas Jayhawks team that won in the 1988 National Championship. He was never a superstar player like Dominique, but he was damned good.

  • yeah ok....I think he sucked for an nba player.

  • I agree...what if his knees held up

  • they kind of glossed over the trade but i always felt that lenny wilkens was the main cause of that travesty. worked out well for ya lenny.

  • Dammit Stan Kasten!!! I was only a kid when you made that trade, and I am still pissed about it!! The dumbest trade in NBA history. The Hawks have sucked ever since.

  • @DJRICO404

Good point but what about the hiest it was to get him. John Drew, and Freemand Williams, and I think like a pick somewhere and half a mil. to get him from the Jazz.

  • Nique is the best. I miss the dunks, the jumpers and the competing.
