God this is one of the most EPIC things in cinema history, the lighting, the camera work, the direction all of it blends together into the visual equivalent of fine wine.

That balrog's got alot of HP, but if your defense and regen is high enough you should be able to hold on long enough when your mana is depleted to regen enough to get in a heal spell in and just repeat it until it's dead.... but seriously... you should try and increase your DPS for a fight like this next time.

Morgoth aka Melkor was the most powerful Valar who desired power and control and who corrupted a number of Maiar (including Sauron and the beings that became Balrogs) - Melkor could not create anything, only corrupt, (orcs are simply corrupted elves). Gandalf wasn't neccessarily the most powerful "good" Maiar, but he was the most adept having studied under several Valar.

If Gandolf continued to the other side I'm pretty sure the bridge would collapse under the Balrog's weight, sending it to its own death without Gandolf dying as well.
