@schoolsbelly - I'll echo that. I love slow fridays at work when I watch Mikey youtubes all morning and remember the good ol days. This Waker one tears me up..I thought Vacation at Bonaroo was the 'this is it moment'...until this RR run.yowza.good times. Thanks Mikey.
It's not the same without him. I love and care for you Mikey like I knew you. Saw Panic 22 times before his passing and have only seen them 4 times since then. Rest in Peace my friend, you'll always be missed.
seen panic once since mikey died! If its not the dumb ass college idiots its the east coast phish thieves crowd just havin a hard time with it. Am going to see them in vegas at the end of july 2011
@trickye999 .... I totally agree. It takes all members to ROCK!!! WSP didn't die with Mikey, and they wouldn't have kept going if they didn't feel it was worth it.
I saw Panic play 1 month earlier at Bonnaroo. Very GRATEFUL for seeing Mikey one last time.
i wish i could have seem mike live in person once before he passed. ive only watched him on the panic in the streets and the oak mtn dvds and i like his style more than jimmys. they are both good but mikeys guitar flows so much better with the rest of the band
poor thing was so sick. god, i wish...what if we would have known. i miss you mikey, even though we never met. you have been such a beautiful influence in my life. i am a better person because of you. your light will shine no matter who plays guitar beside JB; he misses you bad.......
love the whole band, but houser was the force that set them apart. his solos ripped a hole through every song. when you thought it couldn't get any better, he took it to a new plane. can't do panic anymore, unfortunately. no disrespect, just not my thing now.
I was there... remembering that everyone had noticed how much weight Mikey had lost, no official announcement from him or the band yet. But he was slow on and off stage.
My favorite song by Panic, got me into the band seriously when they played it 2 years earlier in Keystone.
i dont even listen to much panic anymore sorry its just differant i know they have that right but its not for me sadly i love jb but i cant feel the love like i used to for the music its to somethin thats for sure
there's something about mikey which is so open and lovening. I don't get that from jimmy; he's a great guitarist but is sound is somewhat sinister. Sinister is the last word i would use to describe Panic. but alas, it is what it is. We love you mikey.
i cant belive it's been 8 years, although jb appears to have aged about 18 years. thank you mikey, thank you barbette for letting us play with your husband, thank you to whoever it was dancing in front of me during the huge rebirtha jam and thank you widespread panic for living out mikey's legacy. i know he's proud of ya'll for selling out another one.
i never liked it when mike started to play sitting down. fortunately when i saw them live in 92, 93 and 94, he was still playing standing, which was alot more entertaining
Man, I urge anyone to go listen to Holden Oversoul from 9-16-06, Radio City Music Hall in NYC with John Keane on guitar and tell me that he couldn't keep up and that it doesn't fit so much better than Jimmy ;) Now if you mean he couldn't keep up with the constant touring b/c of family, etc then that's a different story.
Not sure, I wasn't there...just have the bootleg. But on the notes, as well as Everyday Companion, it says John Keane on guitar for Holden Oversoul. Obviously this show is after Mikey's death but whoever is playing lead (which I'm sure is Keane) sounds EXACTLY like Mikey playing. I mean I was so taken back I had to look at the date again to make sure it was a post 8/2002 show! He seemed to keep up just fine and kept the original Panic sound better than with Jimmy.
@smitryan Samuel Holt played with them, right after Georgie, along with John Keane, before Herring came onboard. He sounded ALOT like Mikey. That was in 06.
I got nothing against Jimmy, but I wish Sam Holt played lead for WSP.
@docMANDUDE ...Thanks Doc. Will you be in Louisville for the kick off of the spring tour? 2 nights @ the Palace, of course it is already sold out. I live in Louisville, I'll buy you a beer....Peace !
Jimmy Hearing is a VERY talented guitarist (technically wise probablly more than Mikey) but after seeing them perform this fall for the first time with Jimmy I just don't think his style fits and I'm misssing Mikey dearly :(
My question is does anyone know why they don't get John Keane to be their lead guitarist??? Keane fits like a glove with Panic's style. John Keane is as close as you'll ever get to Mikey's style.
sorry Jimmy, you rocked in ARU but not just not fitting in here.
the whole band is great. include herring haters, if he was'nt JB would'nt let him be there. of course everyone loves mikey. i personally think schools is one of the best bass players possible.
im so glad to read the comments and see that im not alone in my thinking...went to austin halloween this year and was dissapointed...the current fans bashed me for saying anything negative about jimmy herring, missing mikey, etc. saw a dude with a "widespread herring" shirt on and wanted to kill him for his disrespect. i know the real wsp died with mikey and i miss it...but going to shows now just fucks it all up for me. still love yall
i dont understand why you would go to a current panic show and be negative about it; openly complain about jimmy or the band? why? there is nothing to prove out there, ignore the crazies and enjoy the show, that simple.
i was privileged enough to catch the last Oak Mtn. & Red Rocks runs and will forever be glad I did. Houser gave Panic that dirty, authentic panic sound...I will always treasure all the HOB Myrtle runs and Oak Mtn. '99 HOB and July 2001 Oak were epic runs too. Props to Jimmy for stepping up and letting the boys still do their thing. Mikey's last Red Rocks show was it for me. That's how I want to remember panic...damn man I am all emotional now too...god bless mikey and all of the boys.
This is the Panic I'm trying to see. I dont even feel like Im seeing Panic anymore, I feel like its the Jimmy Herring show now. They have lost the dynamic Houser brought, I feel like Herring is taking over. Its no longer "Turn JB UP" its "Turn Jimmy Down".
@superstenchous how do you expect to see this panic? without houser it can't be the same panic....regardless those dudes are still on stage giving it hell and you should be glad to be alive to witness it.
This video makes a grown man cry. I have seen firsthand at work that pancreatic cancer is often a surprising, rapid killer. Watching him sing a song written for his own son while he is dying is so emotional. Especially the way JB is leaning into it, knowing what is going on with his close friend. Strange contrast when they cut to the happy crowd in various segments. I hope most of them fully understood what was going on on the stage before their own eyes. RIP Houser.
always will be a memory in my mind, i lost my panic partner that year & with the loss of mikey it was tough - BUT WE ARE BACK - STRONGER AND BETTER THAN EVER! LONG LIVE WSP!
I could watch from 3:00-3:20 100 times and watch different people every time

It was Mikey's decision. He wanted Herring.
Keane couldn't keep up.
True Panic died with Mikey; sad but true. Herring is the only one who can keep up with the band.

Was it only Keane on stage or did he have other people with him...
I meant purely on a musical level he couldn't keep up; improv, etcetera.
Jimmy's the only one who can do it but it will never be the same. Finally came to this conclusion in Austin for Halloween.
