  • Does anyone know of a studio recording of this ? is this part of an actual song ?

  • excellent !!!!! from France

  • Craig Ferguson should have been there LOL

  • I really like Kasey's utilization of the upper register, which is what many players don't do. This soloing is far better than any of that crudd produced by 'Bad News Brown' or whoever.

  • The only bad thing I have to say about this is that, it wasn't in time at all. Tempo is your friend. Your solo, but there is still a tempo. other than that it was absolutely fantastic.

  • is that you on the harmonica? I play the guitar (vids) and I'm learning harmonica ;P

I looked at this video about a 100 times, trying to get an idea of how a superb harmonica solo should sound . xD

    jeremy

    west TX harp fanatic!!

  • hey man, first of all congratulation!...look i was thinking about start playing the harmonica, i would need some advise about the model and stuff like this for a beginner, if u can help...cheers

  • For starter harmonicas, the special 20's from hohner are pretty cheap, and sound great. Use a "C" harp and keep it in the car. Most songs can be played on that harp when you start. When you want to start bending I recommend Lee Oskars

  • I'm surprised you consider SP2's 'starter' harmonicas...since they're the most commonly played Blues Harp made. Lee Oskars are good too, not knocking them; Seydels are moving up fast in the 'taste' spectrum..especially for their steel reeds. People should check out online harmonica lists and sites ...get the information from the pros out there: Jason Ricci, Adam Gussow, Ronnie Shellist, Dan Gage (all on YouTube) have great tutorials as well as help on what type of harps to play. Join SPAH...

  • man!... your good

how do you do those trill things?...

do you just move your mouth really fast on the harp?

  • I pretty much just move the harp fast when I trill, but you can get real prescise and delicate as well. I think it works to have your mouth in between the two holes you are trilling, and it is a movement with your head and the harp, but mostly the harp.

  • This is Kasey. Thanks for all the great comments, I'll try and answer some of the questions

  • Thats the most awesome thing I have ever seen! The fucking electric harmonic. I just bought a harmonica and it is much harder than you might think

  • first harmonica video watched..and its awsome...gotta learn to play one of them bastards....YAR!!!

  • i just want to know what key its in?!?!?!?

  • he's miming it.

  • no dude... he's not. I have seen them live and he is flat out whicked.

  • what sorta harmonica you got, sounds wicked is it hohner? can you tell me plz? :)

  • It is a Lee Oskar Diatonic "D" harmonica. Thanx for the comment.

  • Whats the name of the song?

  • This is the solo I play at the end of the set. In this show it is at the end of a song called "The Rain" we play. The solo is pretty much improvised except for "Low Rider" in the middle of the solo.

  • that's my cousin!! :DDDDD

he's probably the best cousin i have actually....lol

  • Good!

  • CHILLS!!!!!! GOOD JOB BRO!!!!

  • bad ass!

  • i want learn :(:(:(:) plz public the notes xD

  • drummer needs to take a little tip from whoever taught harmonica man to jam

  • nastyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, i wanna learn to jam like that

  • i really wanna learn how to play... but what are some pro's and con's of the chromatic harmonica and diatonic?? i just don't know which to get... any suggestion is welcomed, thanks

  • The guy here is playing a diatonic. That's the "bluesy" sounding harmonica. Charlie Musselwhite plays diatonics, so does Jon Popper, the Blues Traveler dude.

Chromatic has all 12 notes and is used especially in jazz and some pop. Stevie Wonder plays a chromatic.

Chromatic is arguably harder to play, but it's really just what you want to play. I play XB-40 Hohners and you can search glen doll xb-40 and hear.

    Hope this helps.

  • For my money, the second position of a diatonic harmonica sounds the best. It is just very soulful and bluesy. Chromatic is essential if you want to play jazz, and really gives you the freedom of notes that a piano would. Diatonic is more a bout patterns and bends, which is harder to learn, but allows you to learn one riff and then use it on a song in another key simply by changing harmonicas. Thanx for the question

  • what key harp is that?

  • nice tune bro

  • OH MY GOD!! that was kick ass, wat tuning is that harmonica?

  • This is my favorite band. Everyone should check them out they're awesome

  • that was beast

  • GO TEXAS STATE!I LIVE IN TX

  • great! is this a diatonic harmonica? (richter-system blues thing?)

  • yep.

  • is that a well known song at the beginning? sick riff.

  • Its all me up until the "Lowrider" breakdown. Thank you

  • Wow, never heard anything like this !

Simply amazing, can`t wait for the day I get to this level.

  • check out ronnie shellist he's something to strive for

  • jasonpoirier07..couldn't help but respond to your post about 'never having heard anything like this'..then you've never heard Jason Ricci, John Popper...or even LDMiller. This kid has some chops, no doubt..but Jason Ricci is a brilliant harmonicist you should hear. Try his Harpin' help video on YouTube...be prepared for utter amazement, lol...

  • love this

    -clark(dominates)

  • play your harp sir!

  • dayum son

  • I could watch this every day... ha ha ha

    Its flawless... I love it

  • that was freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like the beginning of the solo but in the middle i hear the song "low Ryder" by War the first time is at 1:06

  • damn that was good!

  • you da best wat key is dat

  • I live down the street from a shop his dad runs and I used to play soccer with his younger brother. All that and I had no idea he was this good.

  • Awesome

  • i read from a previous comment that it was all made up by him

  • ACVent...no it isn't 'all made up by him', sorry..he quotes a famous riff several times throughout this piece...

  • I am a big fan of Popper, Ricci, Primich, and all the greats. I still have a long way to go on the harp. There are definitely blues standard harp riffs through out this solo, however it is a improvisational blues jam. Most harp players would be ok with saying that was made up by me. Thanks for talking about other great harp players though. My favorites right now are the late great Gary Primich and Dennis Gruenling.

  • I didn't put down the playing at all (wouldn't). Merely pointed out to the guy who asked that it wasn't 'ALL' 'original'. He said that he'd read that, and since the one major riff was used throughout and what the improv was built on, you can't make that claim. Most players do 'quote' or pay homage to a known riff here and there in improv. That was the discussion, not the rest of the improv. Maybe everyone's mixing up creating original songs with improving in a jam?..two different things.

  • I know these guys..only met Gary once (August 2006, Jason'sAnnual Harp Blow-off). They'd like your playing. As to the greats..there's not a one of them wouldn't also say they 'still have a long way to go', since the best of them don't have the biggest egos...you're in excellent company. April 4 they're screening the Pocketfull of soul major documentary harp movie in Houston..for free...with playing and jams after...wish I could get there.
