good instructional vid, but having watched that, all people who are taking up fishing, will assume that right-hand wind multi is the way to go-you did not show that yu had to change hands after casting with a right hand "American style" multiplier
-so with this multiplier, you have your weaker left arm, doing the heavy work of pumping in fish, and your right arm, doing the piddly job of winding in-no logic to this and there never has been-most people 95% with fixed -spool reel wind in
all u bait caster fisher man help! im new to baitcasters and i have a question. it seems when ever i use a plastic my line doesnt rap around the reel very tight, which makes the line easer to dig into the spool because baitcasting reels have a horizontal spool, this never happens when im using a rapala or a spinner because there is always resistance on the line when retrieving so it stays nice and tight. help!!
@shootinshotguns hmmm, maybe u need a heavier lure, or u need to move the two knobs on the reel, tighten or loosen, but wen u release the pressure, the lure should very slowly come down by itself
I bought my first big game reel and rod the other day.... (had the small version like in this video and mastered it years ago) But this huge one I have now,, damn.. I cant cast it worth shit.. Ill try casting and it just fly's straight down 5 yards in front of me.. I think for the most part I can handle the reel, but the rod is heavy duty and ive never used one like it before. Have a feeling its going to take me a week or so to figure this out.
@CaneFu - a few mistakes on my part: Its a trolling reel on a trolling rod (medium heavy 12-30#) on 20lb line. Obviously its not meant to be cast.. especially with 1oz worth of weight. I still use it, but the furthest I can cast without a birds nest is 10-15 yards. So it was just ignorance on my part. I have a shakespeare SKP 2000C rigged up with a shimano casting rod (medium light) and that is my main setup. I have no problems casting it as long as I thumb the spool just right.
Oops! No sense keeping something you can't really use - my advice is to sell it on eBay and then go buy yourself a new reel that you'll actually enjoy casting with. Life is too short to settle for things you don't really want.
@CaneFu - Right now I have 7 rods and reels for different types of fishing. I wouldnt sell any of them. Plus the lake I go fishing at has very steep sides so its not so bad. And one day I will own a boat. Life is too short NOT to own one ;)
the demonstrated "backlash" is actually refered to as over run.backlash occurs during the cast, not when the sinker/lure hits the water.backlash occurs because of poor technique or poor reel setting or both
Hardest thing for me was learning not to try and throw the bait as hard as I can. You have to use a smooth back and then forward motion and let the rod do the work. Learning to keep your thumb lightly on the spool while the bait is in the air is surprisingly easy once you master casting.
i just baught one of thoose types of baitcasters and i cant get it to cast far. i have loosend the spool speed that dident do much. it dose no have magnets. so i was wondering if u could tell me how to cast it farther
I had the same problem when I first started. One thing I was doing wrong was I didn't have the spool all the way full of line. Other than that just keep practicing and experimenting with the spool tension knob and the brakes until you find the right setting.
one of the sides of your reel should pop off and you will see a bunch of pins and those are the brakes if you pull those up it will activate that brake if you push it down it will deactivate it if it is activated it will slow your spool down making shorter casts
It just takes time. I bought my first one a month ago and am starting to get the hang of it. My advice is to watch every vid on Youtube about bait casters.
@Olorinii That's the first thing I did when I got my first baitcaster! You Tube!! It had everything I needed and answered all my questions I was casting pretty good the first day. I've used spinning gear my whole life and for the most part still do. But when I need to get into some heavy stuff or big baits I go to the baitcaster!! Very Good Advice!!!
when u cast u take ur finger off and then just apply light pressure with your thumb when it is falling so when it hits the water the spool is slowed down.
wut kinda baitcaster is tht

Thank you very much! I just bought my first baitcaster reel and thought my reel was broken! Now I know the backlash was operator error. :)))

i find it easier to use a left retrieve with a baitcaster instead of a right retrieve when using a spinner reel
TheXJthatCould 1 year ago
why do you cast with you right hand and reel in with your right hand? ive had that problem, and today i fixed that problem.
TheEliteFisherMan 1 year ago
Cast a bait caster sideways, upside down, straight up, it don't matter, how ever you need to cast it to get the bait in the right place is fine

start out casting sideways, then work to overhead, then underhand (underhand under overhanding trees and shit.)

I was thinking it might be a trolling reel when you said it wouldn't cast very well. As long as you have a boat though, it won't matter.

It has a centrifugal braking system

some good pointers, but jiminem is right, that rod doesn't have a breaking system, just the tension pin
