Just to let you know people were not more or less religious 120 years ago. They did however live is smaller communities with less outside influence/people. Divorcing would ostracize them from their community in many cases.

people like that make me embarrassed to call myself 'Christian'. she shows no educated statements. For the love of all things sacred, Japan is not an Atheist state. Their main religion is Buddhism and Shintoism. Japan is also smack on a fault line so earthquakes and tsunamis are not unusual there.
