I wish I'd seen this at the time. I just do not understand how people can fail to get that the NUS threatened us, while the BNP said they wanted a peaceful debate, and accuse US of hypocrisy.

In any case, it wasn't entirely our choice - I was told that it was the Durham police who decided that the event would have to be called off, because of the NUS threat to public peace, not the BNP.

Student politics :( I've read the letter, and it was not cricket.

The chap seems to think that saying he's 'anti-fascist' or whatnot absolves him of his actions, which were wrong, and he seems to think that he and his partner in crime shouldn't have been censured because the BNP might 'jump on it'
