im sorry but i went to that game and beckham does crap he does not really do anything for the team people payed him millions of dollors to come to america just to bring soccer but soccer is my life and i would do more then he does in games and i am 11 years old
La fans going to galaxy game this weekend please boo beckham and the team!! spread the word as much as you can! lets teach the clown and the team what we expect!
these 2 have become like Steven Gerarrd and Fernando Torres when it comes to collaboration. They compliment each other so well. They know each others thoughts.
Why is American football called "football" when majority of the time the sport does not involve the foot? Otherwise soccer could've been called football, and American football for..American rugby ;)
The goal he scored last year was in Superliga competition, it wasn't an actual MLS game. So Beckham's goal against San Jose was his first in a regular season MLS match.
Well US already beat Sweden and Poland. I think the US has a lot going on for them now than before. The US only needs 2 good midfield players and that's it. Defense is all right and the offense is fine. But when they play teams who will always control the midfield, that's when trouble arrives.
hey i am from england and there is one thing i don't understand about mls... you have a salary cap of 20 000 dollars a week or something yet you can manage to make beckham play? how does that work?
is there an exception because it is beckham and he is here to promote football in usa or is there a rule which says 1-2 players with highest wages aren't included in salary cap???
MLS salary cap is like 2 million a year per team I think. They made a "designated player" rule for Beckham...every team gets one. Its basically a way for a team to get a expensive player and have it fit the cap.
yeah each team has what's called a "designated player" who only counts for $400,000 per year against the salary cap (which is somewhere around $2.4 million). that is how beckham, juan pablo angel, cuauhtemoc blanco, marcelo gallardo, claudio lopez, claudio reyna and denilson were signed. other existing mls players like landon donovan, carlos ruiz and eddie johnson had their salaries "grandfathered in" and so they also only counted as $400k towards the cap. i hope this explains a bit.
one more thing, teams can actually trade their designated player slot to another team but a team can only have a max of 2 DP's per team. new york and dc united are the only two clubs with more than one DP slot avaiable (although both only have 1 DP signed as of now).
if seattle's team is able to sign thierry henry (as the rumors suggest), he will be that teams designated player.
and do you think they will get rid of the salary cap any time soon??
Oh and while we are at it... the rooster superdraft thingy? what is it... i am playing this football manager game and i am chicago (random i have no preferences) anyway you get to buy players by drafting them!? but i dont get it how does it work...
thanks a lot guys! any questions about anything in europe ... go for it :)
superdraft is an american sports thing...it's done in basketball, baseball, american football, etc. basically, in america there is no youth system for clubs. instead, clubs sign talent from collegiate teams. in order to qualify to play in college players must be amateurs so pro teams cannot sign players until they graduate (or leave early to go pro). drafts are used to give all league teams an equal opportunity to sign players. the worst teams get first pick and teams can trade their picks, etc.
The clubs have all started youth academies in the last year or so which should start producing talent in a few years. It will be interesting what role the draft will play when that happens.
MLB still has a draft, but it clearly rides back burner to thier farm systems.
In MLB, the draft actually goes hand in hand with their farm teams. Most (if not all) college players drafted by major league teams are then allocated to their minor league affiliates to get experience. You don't see kids signing with major league clubs at 13,14,15 years old like European soccer clubs. That is the major difference in the youth systems in the states and elsewhere. There really is no club youth system in the US - in any sport. Like you said, that is starting to change with soccer.
yes, adu was playing with dc united early but that does not discount my point because adu never went to college. he made his pro debut at 14 and thus lost any college eligibility. in fact, he was a member of project-40 / generation adidas. it's a program mls developed for the most elite young stateside soccer players. basically, they join the program (thus turning pro and losing college eligibility) but if their career doesnt pan out then mls will pay for their college tuition.
btw, you replied to my post concerning major league BASEBALL and not major league soccer. but again, for the most part, no clubs in any american sports sign players prior to college (basketball and american football actually instituted rules to disallow young players from being drafted straight from high school thus forcing them to attend college at least temporarily). baseball has no such rule but young players almost universally are sent to the minor leagues in lieu of straight to the majors.
btw i am a fulham fan... they are going down but i am born and bred there and they will come straight back up next year... thing is johnson, dempsey are sure to leave cos they are good players...
great club to support although they don't win much...
i am a fulham fan as well. of course, mostly because of all the americans (we call it fulhamerica where i'm from). unfortunately, i think you're right that we are relegation bound.
It's more like Beckham doesn't like to play in America. It's obvious he's not enjoying himself here and he definately doesn't fit here. Tbh the only team he fit in was Man U and he was a legend there but no where else
woah beckham was so the goal provider. if u realize it most of the time he will kick the ball form his wing position to another player in the middle then GOAL!!
My european friends Please don't discuss with americans about football. They haven't idea of it, they think that football is a sport played with the hands...
he is a true player...he went to the U.S to expande their football and make it the biggest sport there too...experienced players like him should do the same! FOOTBALL FOR LIFE
landon might be "slightly" over-rated in the US, because he was all we had for a while (i admit he is not the second coming of pele), but he is grossly UNDER_RATED by the rest of the world. he's fun to hate, but he has good touch, accuracy, passing skill, and ridiculous pace!!! he's only 28 btw...
I guess that is why his team got hammered 4-0 the week before by Colorado, huh ya knob? As if your being a Liverpool fan wasn't a sign of your stupidity in and of itself.
