  • Not to mention Paul Haslinger was absolutely brilliant in the second half of the 80s with good ol' Eddy but I say he shouldn't of depated TD just because he wanted to work with Peter Baumann in the first half of the '90s. Of course he's now accused for selling out American artists just to appear in movies and worst yet, himself.

  • I only know their history until 1975...but sometimes I hear their late 70's sound by chance, cool sequenced part is good. In Japan, almost complete works of TD are sold on deluxe paper sleeve CDs, the line of the CDs are occupying a long space along the wall, haha. I have ever seen an American movie of highschool comedy music by TD, they were both no good.

  • @elephanta2: I think you're mentioning Risky Business as "an American movie of highschool comedy". I reckon the soundtrack was one of TD's worst ever achievements because they didn't even bother trying at composing many tracks for the film with the exception of one of their tracks "Love on a Real Train". But if they ever tried to take it that serious, they would've composed and performed Arnold Schwartzenegger's masterpiece The Terminator.

  • The film "Sorcerer" is now totally forgotten, but TD's sound track is still listened by many people.

  • @elephanta2: TD's most recognizable soundtracks from the 80s would either be Near Dark or Flashpoint. Anything more from their soundtracks aren't known quite well from music gurus unless they take movie music quite seriously.

  • I only know their music soundtrack "Sorcerer", because as I said before, Steve Reich complained about this album on a interview of a music magazine with great anger, "They stole my idea in a bad way in this album, I want money from them!"

  • @elephanta2: Steve Reich is nothing but a man who has the mentality of a 10 year old boy whose team was lost in a soccer match at school. He gets into an outburst that easy because each time an avant-garde album has a reference to any of Reich's albums he only gets angry over one msucial reverb that nearly had the semblance of any of his tracks. He needs to calm down and stop with his distorted and ignorant comments about bands and artists.

  • Respecting each other, this is the best way, because great artists were sharing great musical movement at the time, Mike Oldfield yes, TD yes, I think it was the happy time, as you say, Reich shouldn't complain about them, haha.

  • @elephanta2: it's a good think TD and Mike Oldfield respect each other's musical achievements since they were former Virgin artists and also get into a casual conversation if they had free time. But for Reich, each tome he is interviewed by a music magazine editor, he drivels on about why people doens't deserve to make music because he accuses them of ripping off his musical references.

  • Everywhere we find at least a bad person, haha. By the way, Reactive / Risotec released 24 bit remastered "Sorcerer" last year, according to a trusty Japanese shop, its sound quality is very nice.

  • @elephanta2: and not everyone liked TD, even before Christopher Franke joined the band in December 1970 after he was asked to do various studio duties with Edgar Froese and the late great Conrad Schnitzler. It's funny how Conrad had a foul relationship with both Edgar and Chris after a twenty minute live show the following month.

I remember seeing Sorcerer for the first time back in the late-'90s when I rented it on video and the video release was in stereo.

  • @elephanta2: the soundtrack on the video release was a sub par because the tape was a bit beat up due to its age. So when I watched it again all those years later, it was an improvement because it was in high definition and digitally re-mastered for its DVD release. I would love to get the soundtrack on both vinyl LP and CD but I'm stuck with the MP3 version at the moment.

  • I bought "Electronic Meditation" and "Alpha Centauri" twice and "Zeit" and "Atem" 3 times though "Zeit" remastered version is not still sent to me. I have waiting for reissue of "Official Bootleg vol.1". I have no their DVD. Is live in the cathedral good?

  • @elephanta2: why would it take that long for Zeit to be delivered to your doorstep? How long has it been since you ordered the LP/CD release of that album? And in case you're wondering about the live in the cathedral which was taken place in 1974, I was told the quality was actually good. So I recommend you to watch that live show when it is given to you soon.

  • I ordered it July 2011, I can realize it has been kept in my account of a net shop, it's good because I have no money this and next months, haha. Ah, I'm interested in the DVD, I will get it if I have money. By the way, which is your most favourite album, "Fedora" or "Rubycon" or "Ricochet"? Humm, it's a difficult question, because I like all very much...for me, it's probably "Fedora"..

  • Probably it's a mechanical trouble on their net shopping system, but I can realize it has been kept in my account, it's good, haha. I'm interested in the DVD, I will get it if I have money. By the way, which is your most favourite album, "Fedora" or "Rubycon" or "Ricochet"? Humm...it's a quite difficult question, because I like all very much...for me, it's probably "Fedora".

  • @elephanta2: did you mean "Phaedra"? Well out of the three albums you've mentioned, I say Phaedra is my favourite, but not my all time favourite. I sometimes think i should order the official bootleg DVDs of TD but I'm worried about the postage and handling, so that's a disadvantage. And as for the website, I think some couriers aren't interested at delivering items for die-hard art music maniacs alike and that in general is a miserable thing to do to customers.

  • Ahaha, yes, I made a mistake, it's "Phaedra!" I do not buy unofficial bootleg, I have ever gotten unofficial bootleg live of Pink Floyd, it was including my favourite rare songs, "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" and "Embryo", but the sound quality was the worst of my music life.

  • @elephanta2: and what about the picture quality? Was it as bad as the sound quality?

  • Yeah, the front cover was very cheap...it was not worth to listen at all, I threw it soon after I bought. Probably a half of live recordings of Jimi Hendrix and Japanese legendary band, Les Rallizes Denudes (I have uploaded their songs...maybe they are not your taste, hehe) are not worth to listen either. Also I have bad sound quality live recordings of King Crimson.

  • I say in general Tangerine Dream was nice until 1990.

  • Well, probably you are right, Edgar Froese and Chris Franke are really great artists. However, I have a sticky point of view on TD, because if I accept your opinion, I must get a huge amount of CDs though I have no money, HAHAHA!
