Some of the comments were so appalling and disgusting... "black women have nasty anal hair" saids one comment. I was dumbfounded. Why so much hate?! If a Chinese girl loved an African guy that makes her a monster?
I live in France and have many integrated black friends. I cannot understand such a hostile mindset. Chinese people are terribly racists.

@SPS148669 how is that still not racist....?? because first of all, japanese and chinese are not the same. They are both in Asia yes, but so is India, would you consider that "the same" as well?
Also even if they were the same, it's still racist if you're discriminating against your own race..
@lizrdski I could live anywhere, I lived in Asia, best places were Japan, Phils, and Thailand. They usually don't confront you about racism, most of it is subtle, like they will talk shit behind your back.
There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist.
Slightly awkward feeling after finding out that the host with the red shoes Li Jing is transgender. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just feel a little brainfukked now.
oh yeah, and the girl in the vid is awesome for adapting to the culture.
@iobroful I've watched some of her other programs, I never would have suspected it until I read this. That might be all that I can think about when I'm watching her show now.
@DrMMHMD Thanks, you're right, Hokkien is part of the Min language group, and called Min Nan here in Taiwan by many. I'm not a linguist, but I believe I'm correct when I said Hokkien is in the same language family as Mandarin, Sino-Tibetan (got my info from Ethnologue).
Anyway, my point to the OP was that, as a Mandarin learner, I can't understand when "Taiwanese" (Hokkien/Min Nan) is spoken around me, except for the few words that are similar to Mandarin, kind of like English/Spanish.
@montezoma It depends. "Taiwanese Mandarin" has a few pronunciation and vocabulary differences from the mainland, but it's mutually understandable (like American and British English).
There's also Taiwanese Hokkien, or Min Nan, which is also spoken by most of the people on the island. Hokkien is in the same language family as Mandarin and so has some similar sounding words (like English and Spanish); however, its tones, vocabulary, etc. are quite different and not mutually intelligible .
@montezoma For some reason I grew up considering that Taiwanese and Chinese are completely different languages. I consider Chinese to include Mandarin and Cantonese. There are also two kinds of Mandarin: Mainland China's Mandarin- and Taiwanese Mandarin- they both sound practically the same... just accent and pronunciation can differ, but not very noticeable... and Mainland China uses Simplified Chinese characters while Taiwan uses Traditional Chinese characters... (continued on my other post)
@montezoma (continued from my previous post) As for Taiwanese, I don't know what they use for writing.. but their language sounds completely different; it has very few similar words to Chinese, but if you understood Cantonese or Mandarin- you pretty much can not understand Taiwanese... so to me it's an entirely different language.. as Cantonese is different to Mandarin. I should also add... (continued on my next post 3/3)
@montezoma 3/3 I don't know why people call Cantonese and Mandarin as different dialects of Chinese. it sounds completely different. again with only very few similar words. hope this helps. On a funny note from my perspective: Cantonese sounds robotic and choppy, Mainland China's Mandarin sounds gives me a very formal and grandeur impression, Taiwan's Mandarin sounds slurred, and more pouty, and lastly. Taiwanese sounds sloppy and gangsterish. here's a lot of hard sounding guhs and buhs and ahs.
anyways, i thought that she is very charming and i like her smile.
for those narrow minded, negative ppl: the stars in there are just amazed by how she learned MADARIN in just two years and she understands all the slangs! that is amazing!!! becuz madarin IS hard
@steve4nlanguage In SE Asia? :S The whole 'cute baby voice' thing generally comes with influence from Japanese culture and their borderline paedophilic customs. That's not SE. Besides, Taiwan maybe ethnically and geographically SE but it is generally considered just 'East' because of the political complications.
@steve4nlanguage People have commented that the baby voice phenomenon can be found in east Asia (ie. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China) but not SE Asia. I stand corrected.
Why do they get excited when she says "my father won't give you any trouble"? I can say a normal sentence in Chinese like "It seems like everyone likes coffee." And Chinese people will laugh O_o
@sonicxisforever My thoughts: Xiao-gong (the guy) seems interested in someone who is quite a bit younger than him, not a celebrity, and a foreigner. These "taboos" provide fodder for teasing by the panel. Then Yi-ren (the woman) plays along and starts flirting with him, assuring him that he needn't fear her father's reaction (suggesting her father may not approve of this older, foreign celebrity hitting on his daughter and/or Xiao-gong may have been too wimpy to stand up to her dad).
Like everywhere else there are good and bad people.
But the majority are nice and kind.
And at least, on the national level, they're not invading and occupying poor countries and robbing their resources like the US and Britain are. They will probably get around to it sooner or later though.
@Maribuu Li Jing, the show's host, is veriously referred to as transgendered and transsexual. Other information states that she was actually born intersexed, and in 1982 she underwent plastic surgery to bring out her femaleness, the gender she more identified with.

@SakariNichols Ah, OK, diabolik cleared up the confusion. You must be thinking of Lou Jing (婁婧), a Blasian woman who does speak Mandarin fluently because she was raised in China by a Chinese parent.
The contestant on this show is named Huang Yi-ren (黃怡仁) and she learned Mandarin as a young adult. The host of this show is Li Jing (利菁).
This is very refreshing to see. I am in the process of securing a teaching job in China and would like to become fluent in Mandarin. I am an African American woman and have lived in Shanghai previously and can't wait to return. However, I will say that ignorance is plentiful and there are some prejudices of what an "American" should look like. Especially if you want to teach English.
@Tubealicious1 Indeed. Here in Taiwan, some schools will also routinely pass on hiring Asian Americans (and Canadians, etc.) because of the public's notion that they couldn't possibly be native English speakers. While not impossible, it is more difficult to find a job when you don't look like Barbie & Ken, unfortunately.
wow!!she remind me of myself! 我记得当我开始学中文的时候。。。我觉得太难的。。可是,i can have some conversations in chinese ,我学只有一年半。 i cant understand everything they say, but ive had conversation that sound simliar to what they talk about!
@Catsie15 excuse me but are you and adult because "atleast i can afford an i phone".......what kind of crack do you have to be on to make a comment like that lol an i phone,,,,,,lol the homeless are walking around with i phones no a days lol
I can speak 3 languages now. I want to add Italian to my list and eventually Chinese since that one is the most challenging I believe. I speak English, Spanish and German, My German is not perfected yet. My Italian is that of a beginner's, and I can speak about as much Chinese as a rock, but I really, really would like to learn.
@Sweetpea2621 YouTube doesn't seem to want me to post websites in my comment, so I will send you a message with a couple of the most popular sites for foreigners wishing to work/study/live in Taiwan. Also, feel free to send me a message with any questions or comments you may have.
@KNyamekye Thanks for the additional information. I thought she had appeared on a different show (WTO 姐妹會) and her name tag read Liberia (利比里亞), but perhaps I'm confusing her with someone else.
Anyway, learning Mandarin is fun and cool, so don't be intimidated :-) 加油!
you know what is the best of speaking & understanding more foreign languages...it's the satisfactory you're getting while watching a video without the necessity to rely on the subtitle. Lucky I insist to go to Chinese school when I'm 7....haha. nice vid.thx for posting!!
I think people learning a language other than their native is beautiful! It should be encouraged and praised! It is a sign of utmost respect! I would never ever make fun of anyone who tries to learn English.
I think this woman is great and for anyone saying mean things about them, why don't you open up that head of yours and realize she has got a talent. And she should be commended for it.
@GigglingGirI NOPE..not true, I'm in China right now and I'm meeting a lot of black girls who are fluent in Manderin en who also study masters in Chinese universities. This is also my goal. :-)
the hardest language is speak with a computer using his languages to make programs if you can do that you will able to speak any language in the world becuase all programing languagues are made by freaks
I have to admit, my brain wasn't ready when I saw a Chinese girl with a full blow Scottish accent. I mean think about it, a patet little thing then starts talking like Grounds Keeper Willy, from the Simpsons 0.O
So on the premise that some Asian cultures eat an animal u don't,u believe all Asians r dirty ppl?
Pigs r smarter than dogs
Pigs eat anything -dogs eat anything
Pigs role in anything -dogs role in anything
Pigs r used as food -dogs r used as food
Dogs lick their own crutch & then lick ur face
Pigs don't
How's that mindset going?
P.s.I don't eat either animal,cause I've befriended many dogs but also a big B&W pig that I knew for 15yrs or so,which isn't the case for many,I know 8)
this just goes to show just how closed off most asian countries are...closed off and closed minded. japan is an excellent example of how backwards they are culturally. makes me sick.
@gatorvalle - How are they closed-off & closed minded? Have u ever been to an Asian country? Have u ever had an Asian friend? I'm Black & I've been to different Asian countries. From personal experience they're actually a lot more "open-minded" & OPEN than an unknowledgable person might expect. The fact that they are having a very friendly open discussion with this African sista is more PROOF of their openness - just like anyone who is a nice person would do.
we do not portray africans as ignorant or slaves...mammies or whatever. what other cultural jokes we have for blacks we learned from the western media. we thought it was OK only to find out that it was not. racism in the sense of a western perspective is only applicable to the west. china has had black, arabs, indians and whites for more than a millenia living in chinese soil. it is a multi ethnic society for a very long time
@JazzyZenBrotha What a joke! I totally disagree with you. I too have lived amongst asian, but as a black woman, and you say they are open towards blacks?!! Laughable, check out this youtube video; ' black chinese girl suffers racism in china' . So you can stop your bulls$#t talk about chinese openess!!
@Trueserum ok not all taiwanese are open towards blacks just like ALL the other countries but i can assure you that their media is pretty open towards blacks.
really, its not that surprising to suffer racism in any country but that doesn't say anything about that race as a whole.
@Trueserum Well, I can tell you- being white and having lived amongst Asians and having seen blacks do the same- black people do, indeed, have it harder; however, China and Taiwan are far more accepting than Japan and many other Asian countries. In China and Taiwan, I hardly ever had any problems; however, I'm also a white girl- and, for some reason, blacks seem to always get the short end of the stick in the world- as far as racism goes. It's not right.
@Trueserum When I was in China, it was like I was some sort of prize or something. Like I was amazing for being white and having western features. People would talk about how "pretty" I was and boys would ask me out. Then a black friend of mine would be called mean names; even though she, too, is beautiful... But whites meet their standards. My black friend still loves China; and was never HEAVILY hurt- however, racism is racism. It's not okay, and it's not fun. :( Sorry for your experiences.
@smokebogie actually she is African and graduated from National Taiwan University...how I know this? because I am also study in Taiwan graduating from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology/ :)
@helix747 No she is not, she's an African student who studied in at National Taiwan University...she actually is a random black female in Taiwan who speaks chinese :)....she's also my friend :)
@JustGain Im Chinese too .. and it just isnt .. you would say "they speak cantonese or mandarin" .. not "chinese" .. its like saying "do you speak indian?" ... Indian isnt a language ..
She has an adorable accent too, I wonder where she's from, sounds like West Africa maybe? Speaking Mandarin with an African accent! How cute! I'm from Scotland, you should hear it when I speak french, LOL!
@doshus73 Wow ! Is hood what you think black people act like? And this is the reason you think they like her because shes not acting hood. Could it be she just looks really pretty or they think shes smart ?
I said it before in another vid apparently there is a big "african" population in China, and Mandarin is their first language as they grow up there. I would have had no idea if it weren't for my friend who is half Chinese haha weird isn't it?
@sabrinacle I think they came when slave trading began back a long time ago, actually. Not trying to offend people here. Please do correct me if I am wrong.
@latavia01 I just found out about a large population of Chinese where China has invewsted in infrastructure in exchange for raw materials. I guess I just thought no one came in. No one comes out of China. Its a place peole used to "escape" from. Learn something new everyday. Im not ashamed of my ignorance. How many native American tribes can you name? See if you dont know very many does that make you a bad person? Or merly uninformed. Claws down friend
@sabrinacle i'm srry , i responded to you as would have done to somebody else, it's not out of respect, it's a fact that i wanted to state , they are alot of people who think like you meaning: " that they are no africans in china". And i wanted to inform you that they are ,that's all, so srry if i offended you ...
Judging by other YouTube postings and Internet blogs and message boards, it seems that there are many people interested in observing things that they aren't used to seeing, particularly when it comes to speaking languages. There are no racial analyses implied.
Do a YouTube search for "white speaking somali", "japanese speaking yoruba", "korean speaking german", "foreigners speaking ____" etc. for more interesting videos.
@steve4nlanguage Dude are you kiding me''white speak somali'' that's kinda surreal becuase somali language is not that hard neither utter vile like SWEDISH AND FINNISH languages,,those nordic languages have a silly languages
a lot of my black friends (just came from Africa) are exceptionally intelligent.

Good luck, and I hope your dream comes true!

@KNyamekye As far as you put your mind to it you can surely learn. I am learning Spanish and German as well as Serbian. Lots of fun.

She's Ghanaian, she said twi, she has the accent and I should know, since I was born there.

@steve4nlanguage I think she is Liberian too. Saw her on WTO with the Liberian flag. She's a dance instructor in Taiwan too I believe.

And she should be commended for it.

gatorvalle 1 year ago
@gatorvalle -lol
P.s.I don't eat either animal,cause I've befriended many dogs but also a big B&W pig that I knew for 15yrs or so,which isn't the case for many,I know 8)

this just goes to show just how closed off most asian countries are...closed off and closed minded. japan is an excellent example of how backwards they are culturally. makes me sick.
gatorvalle 1 year ago
@gatorvalle - How are they closed-off & closed minded? Have u ever been to an Asian country? Have u ever had an Asian friend? I'm Black & I've been to different Asian countries. From personal experience they're actually a lot more "open-minded" & OPEN than an unknowledgable person might expect. The fact that they are having a very friendly open discussion with this African sista is more PROOF of their openness - just like anyone who is a nice person would do.
JazzyZenBrotha 1 year ago 54
we do not portray africans as ignorant or slaves...mammies or whatever. what other cultural jokes we have for blacks we learned from the western media. we thought it was OK only to find out that it was not. racism in the sense of a western perspective is only applicable to the west. china has had black, arabs, indians and whites for more than a millenia living in chinese soil. it is a multi ethnic society for a very long time
richardhaw 1 year ago
@JazzyZenBrotha What a joke! I totally disagree with you. I too have lived amongst asian, but as a black woman, and you say they are open towards blacks?!! Laughable, check out this youtube video; ' black chinese girl suffers racism in china' . So you can stop your bulls$#t talk about chinese openess!!
Trueserum 8 months ago
@Trueserum ok not all taiwanese are open towards blacks just like ALL the other countries but i can assure you that their media is pretty open towards blacks.
really, its not that surprising to suffer racism in any country but that doesn't say anything about that race as a whole.
01Jien 7 months ago
@Trueserum Well, I can tell you- being white and having lived amongst Asians and having seen blacks do the same- black people do, indeed, have it harder; however, China and Taiwan are far more accepting than Japan and many other Asian countries. In China and Taiwan, I hardly ever had any problems; however, I'm also a white girl- and, for some reason, blacks seem to always get the short end of the stick in the world- as far as racism goes. It's not right.
Buziikon 5 months ago
@Trueserum When I was in China, it was like I was some sort of prize or something. Like I was amazing for being white and having western features. People would talk about how "pretty" I was and boys would ask me out. Then a black friend of mine would be called mean names; even though she, too, is beautiful... But whites meet their standards. My black friend still loves China; and was never HEAVILY hurt- however, racism is racism. It's not okay, and it's not fun. :( Sorry for your experiences.

why do people say "they speak chinese" .. chinese isnt a language .. mandarin is the proper word ...
korobaby86 1 year ago
@korobaby86
Why isn't Chinese a lauguage? I'm Chinese and I'm native speaker of Cantonese & Mandarin which both belong to the same lauguage family, Chinese.
It's completely fine to say "They speak Chinese". If anyone wants to point out which dialect it is, then say "They speak Mandarin" . Both ways work.
JustGain 1 year ago
@JustGain Im Chinese too .. and it just isnt .. you would say "they speak cantonese or mandarin" .. not "chinese" .. its like saying "do you speak indian?" ... Indian isnt a language ..

I said it before in another vid apparently there is a big "african" population in China, and Mandarin is their first language as they grow up there. I would have had no idea if it weren't for my friend who is half Chinese haha weird isn't it?

@selty I never even considered the posibility of an African population in China. I thought they were a much more closed society then that

@sabrinacle there are also many Chinese in Africa I do not understand why the opposite would surprise you...
latavia01 1 year ago
@latavia01 I just found out about a large population of Chinese where China has invewsted in infrastructure in exchange for raw materials. I guess I just thought no one came in. No one comes out of China. Its a place peole used to "escape" from. Learn something new everyday. Im not ashamed of my ignorance. How many native American tribes can you name? See if you dont know very many does that make you a bad person? Or merly uninformed. Claws down friend
sabrinacle 1 year ago
