  • One of the great tragedies of horror cinema is that this film was originally going to be "Dr. Phibes vs Count Yorga". I like this film but I wish I could have seen what could have been.

  • I'm sorry. Vincent Price is great, but this movie is so much crap!

  • Three is a long time....he was lucky that his house was only destroyed. When prime property, it could have been a McDonalds or a Walgreens. LMAO.

I miss movies like this......cgi and bad Hollywood writing has taken the fun out of real horror movies.

  • Oh, dear, sweet Vulnavia.

How easy still I stutter in slumber, awakening to your empty space.

  • s.gnivo.org slash phibes king kirby

  • @HaggisMcCrablice truly a shame those over Phibes projects were never made. In the Jack Kirby Art book edited by Mark Evanier there is a Drawing of the abominable dr Phibes--Caption and all. Looks like it could have been a mock up comic book cover. Now, that would have been awesome. King Kirby did a cool adaptation of 2001 space Odyssey.

  • I wonder why Valdina or whatever her name is is going along with this so easily. Is she going to get something out of working for him?

  • If he was in 'suspended life just like her', why could she not 'come back' like he did?

  • Very good stuff, not as good as the 1st one tho!

  • Triffic.. Not only did Valdinia grow back her face but its grown back ugly.. what happend to the pretty girl that was in the last film :'( lol

  • @chubbylilloser ...I take that back lol.. just got a close up of her and shes pretty hot :D

  • This movie was a creepy movie to me

  • These films were just classic. Vincent Price has a great voice for this kind of thing.

  • Who dared destroy your house?

You told Vajayjay to do it when you thought your revenge was finally achieved!

Speaking of Valdinia, how'd she grow back her face?

  • @waverag That was before he knew there was going to be a sequal. >:) lol Now hes pretending that he didnt tell her to do it

  • Security first !!!

  • the gaudeamus igitur theme as the coffin opens is so classy!!

  • Incredible !!!

  • Peter Cushing!!!

  • Dr. Phibes. Again killing anyone that's in his way.

  • ill adore him til the end of times....

  • Maybe the best role ever by Vincent Price.A truly "phibe"ulous character.Mwahahahahahahahahaha.

  • everybody knows phibes makes the best preserves hehehhe

  • Vulnavia isn't human! Of course she came back!

  • @anton1990

Actualy in the story she does not come back, and Price was not exactly happy to have the story changed but the Studio decided that's how it was going to be.

Price actualy worked on some other stories in the Dr Phibes series, but they never did become film saddly.

A shame, i would have liked to see Phibes complete his journey.

And even if they filmed it today, it would have a crappy actor and CGI effects

  • @Wiesshund - Please don't give them the idea to re - make this classic, botching it in the process..... ;)

  • @knoxvilleguy2

Nah not remake, would have liked to see Price be able to finish the story.

Dont think they would do it right today, or if they did, it would probably dump at the box office due to not enough eye candy and too much mental content :(

  • @Wiesshund - Any attempt at remaking this horror / comedic gem would be a 24 K solid gold cinematic disaster.

  • Thank you for uploading I love this movie. Vincent Price was a master of horror movies RIP Vincent Price

  • Maybe Vulnavia regenerated...hmmm, you know a TARDIS would make Phibes' work a bit easier :p

  • Minor/silly complaint: I was amused that they left out two actors, Milton Reid (butler) and Keith Buckley (Stewart, the scorpion victim) out of the opening credits, but they kept John Thaw, the eagle victim. LOL, could they not afford to put two more names in there?

  • XXZERAWRIOTXX: Didn't know that about the original script, thanx for enlightenment. This so often happens with the translation from screenplay to film.

Is this as good as the first? I don't think so; the original says what has to be said and the second more or less repeats itself, with lesser effect. The clockwork wizards are creepy, especially as all they seem to play is late night jazz!

  • In the original script Dr Phibes is a master of the occult. They mostly scrapped the idea in the film but kept ever slight hints to the underlining occult themes. Vulnavia is a Demon That Dr Phibes summons,A sort of "Familiar " that takes on the human form resembling His Deceased wife as a means of comfort to Him. She is a Demon plain and simple. She even emerges From a mirror and returns through one in the end of this film. mirros are a gateway to our world for demons and spirits.

  • Vulnavia died in Dr phibes 1 when the acid fell on her but phibes brings her back

  • Vulnavia died in Dr phibes 1 when the acid fell on her but phibes brings her back

  • Three minutes in and I am in love with this film.

  • To me, this is comedy at it's finest. Too absurd to be frightening, even though it was freaky, it became downright hilarious. :-)

  • methnks of all the hollywood dirge remakes that don't deserve remaking . . this was a great film in its day . . . pure hocum but if remade who could ever match Vincent Price in the role??

  • A classic! Thanks!

  • i love this movie Vincent Price is amazing in this movie

  • Vulnavia where are you Vulnavia? I love this movie and this is another that needs to be put into a full movie on YT. To me this movie is the original saw with a much more bizarre atmosphere, a better purpose, and of course my favorite actor Vincent Price.

  • always keep safes IN the batcave... you just cause ya self troubles if you leave it unguarded in the wayne manor.

  • what was writen on the yellow bottles? i thot it said embalming fluid?

  • Just two quick notes: The recognizable voice you hear narrating the opening sequence is the great Gary Owens (LAUGH-IN). As for Valli Kemp, they tried to get Virginia North back as Vulnavia, but she was VERY pregnant at the time. That's when Valli stepped in. Also: RISES AGAIN was slapped together almost at the last minute, since AIP was caught by surprise by the box-offic success of the first movie.

  • @Survivor2002 And unfortunately, it shows here in the sequel: Phibes killing for no real reason, the ridiculous, yet amusing, deaths of the victims, the various plot holes... :)

  • YEAH I REMEMBERED ALL OF THIS!! young ones take note of the masters of horror .vincent price, christopher lee, lon chaney, boris karlof, bela la gosi. it didnt have to be blood and guts to be horror, rather it was a masterful art form and can still be scary. Classic!!

  • @mikshank123 Good comment! I completely agree.

  • Loved it Dr Phibes has to be my all time favorite spoof even the dialog is fiendish, where the hell did they get Vulnavia? LOL thanks

  • I've never seen this one - Thx for posting it :)

  • Vincent Price was awesome.

  • @arttuposti yeah mate when i was your age i thought that and I still do

  • Price was actually better in these later films of his career because he was older and scarrier. He looked more ghoulish as he aged !

  • Just goes to show you the value of a formal education in music, mechanical engineering, and Egyptology...

  • this is based on a true story

  • @JOHN02099 Really ? Whose story ? Could you tell us more about it ? Thanks !

  • O'man, as old as I am I didn't even know that there was another part (Dr Phibes Rises Again (1972): Part 1/9) existed !!!

  • @leonardo1480 -- There was talk of more sequels and even a TV series, but none came to pass.

  • Valli Kemp (Vulnavia) is gorgeous 6:00 - 7:50

  • The thing I love about these Films, is that they dont credit the viewer with a Brain. If you drain your body of all your BLOOD and add PRESERVATIVE, then your chances of reserecting yourself from the land of the DEAD are NIL. Sorry folks, but it's true. Not that I am complaining tho, becaue when you realise that the studio thinks you are an imbocile, then you can sit back and enjoy the film...LOL.

  • Only if you believe that the fluid WAS "Embalming Fluid" and not a high-vitamin intravenous liquid...

Duh! Thought everyone knew that! (tongue in cheek)

  • Sorry to be a noob over this, but surely if ALL the blood is drained from the body, then a Dr Phibes no2 would be impossible. I am a die hard fan of these films, and would like the added bit of credibilty to these films. Vincent Price is AWESOME and it disappoints me, that even he did not question this issue on the pretext of future films.

  • Well, my remark was made in jest, hence the parenthetical comment, but frequently a "#2" is not immediately apparent. I imagine if #1 became very successful, it might become necessary to re-invent the character.

Just look at Sherlock Holmes being brought back to life! It was fan pressure that contributed to that.

  • While I realise your reply was made in Jest, surely we can debate this issue as die hard horror fans?, Can't we?. I realise of course that my point is quite moot, and I must tell you that I appreciate your remarks greatly. It's all in the spirit of fun and looking into these films in depth is part of the experience. Well, for me it is anyway. I do not disagree with your comments at all, but look forward to your future remarks :).

  • Of Course, Starquant.

I appreciate your comments, and respect your "P.O.V."

The obvious thing is the "Dr. Phibes Phenomenon" happened and took the studio by surprise, and they decided to capitalize. There WAS always the suggestion that both Phibeses would "rise" again, though the eclipse art on the crypt, so I guess they kept their options open...

  • Dr Phibes, is, and always will be, my favourite of all the horror films. I guess the "Cheezy" element that is indicative of these films is part of the overall enjoyment. I love the Scorpian attack. Why run away, when you can die by Scorpian venom. What a way to go...lol...lol. Or perhaps get crushed in your bed, when you couldn't possibly be over heard by a wind machine. What a Classic.

  • Really, I did not know that.... From another "die hard fan". If you have any more interesting facts about these films, plz tell, I would love to hear them.

  • this is what wacko jacko wanted to do,,,lol

  • i thought his astistant died?

you know in the abomidable Dr. Phibes

  • Well she got acid splashed on her face but why she has no scars confuses me :P

  • All part of the fun. I refer you to Bigballbills comments on the rejuventating syrum. Hope this helps. Sorry for bad spelling.

  • @xNemesisxDivinex I guess the acid just turned her into Valli Kemp.

  • @xNemesisxDivinex yeah i gueesed was a different person, either brain washed, or heck robot

  • vincent price has a amazingly spooky voice, thanks for the upload
