Don't say that it's wrong only because you "think" that it's never meant to be sung that way. I can tell you right now that this song can be interpreted in many ways, happy and sad, and if you didn't like it, why bother finishing the song or commenting on it. Just press that little back button. I thought this version was gorgeous, though - a nice little change.

Very good. When I was a little kid I had this toy guitar. Instead of frets it had buttons you could push and the guitar would play different songs. One button played "You Are My Sunshine", and the way it played it sounded so sad to me. This reminded me of that.
