  • you are playing scales, arps, modes, you just don't know, yea your amazing but how to learn from you if you say you just play whats in your head, ha. love it though, I learn so much on you tube, wish I had this when I was young, I'm in the philippines now, lots and lots of time to play,

  • @timmerdonkey thx for listening . i learned from listening to a lot of jazz ! jazz is a language . like sentences , phrases etc . just like when you learned to talk before you even knew the alphabet .check out my lesson #10 .

learn the melody first then jazz around it .

  • what scales are you playihng off of? what key is this version in? the version im playing has a key signatue of Ab. But starts of with an Fmi7 to a Bb7.... anyways i played a Fmin pentatonic but sounds like poop. but the Eb works. but i think this song changes between keys and trying to figure what scaes to use. thanks

  • @SilvaLiberationFront i'm playing this in Cminor (Ebmaj)your learning it in the original key Fminor (AbMaj)

if you read my profile and go through my lessons, you will see that i don't play off of scales, modes, arpeggios.caged chords etc. some of us older guys just play what we hear in our heads . not very sofisticated but that's how i do it . sorry i can't help you on scales . :-(

  • Forgive my ignorance but Polytone means Solid state mixed with tubes in one amp? What maker do you like for this? thanks...I am new newest student. If you have a pay pal account I would send all the dough I owe you!

  • @ChetArrista i guess i don't understand . polytone is pure solid state. many years ago all of us jazz guys in LA where playing benson tube amps that Howard Roberts and his buddy were making in a garage . very good ! i owned 3 of them . but polytone pure solid state is the best warmest fattest amp i ever heard . mine has a 15 inch speaker . i think the newer ones are better than the old ones . but please send me lots of money ! lol !

  • @freddym223 OK...Now I get it...Polytone is not a TYPE of amp it's an actual maker of amps. I just never herd of them so m. I ill look into them. As always, thanks. I am in a trio and we did a version of a tune called "Just Squeeze Me" last night...very cool!

  • Thanks for getting back to me on your amp sound. I guess you use your "Cube 60" on a lot of the videos you have posted. I have a Fender Reverb Delux but it's so damm loud...I want beautiful bell-tones and a rich sound at LOW volume...hummm, maybe I should think more about what sound my hands are making rather than always searching for the "right" equiptment! Thanks Mr. Freddy

  • @ChetArrista lol ! yes touch and ears are more important than amps and guitars. i got rid of my fender hot rod deluxe because you had to crank it up to loud to get a decent tone. i've given up on tube amps . polytone amps to me are the best for a warm fat balanced tone . but they ain't cheap and there reliability is questionable . but i love mine !

  • I insist...you are really good! Thanks for sharing.

  • @boomerang905 thank you very much ! but i insist . i have no idea what i'm doing ! LOL !

  • @freddym223 : D It's just beautiful though...that's called talent!

  • @boomerang905 thx again boom ! after 23 years playing nite clubs 6 nites a week ,even a dummy like me, can learn to make a little music . :-( LOL ! stay cool amigo !

  • Ok freddy, thanks and let me know when Corcovado be ready, ah, take care of your eyes s very important. I pray not having hurricanes this season in Miami.

  • I love your version freddym, I know you play brasilean bossa and songs from Jobim. Do you play quiet night of quiet stars? (Corcovado). This is a beautiful melody. If you do, please thanks in advance freddym and let me know.

  • hi amber123446 ! yes i've played corcovado almost every night for many years in my nite club days. i love all Jobim's music. i'll put it on my list. i'm dealing with some eye problemas right now. stay safe from those hurricanes mi amiga ! :-)

would it be possible for you to do a clip on your style of chord building ?

It would be most helpful to us who are "playing with" jazz

no pressure, just thought I would ask.

    Thanks for everything

  • @zencaper if you read my profile, you'll see that i just play the melody and stack notes below that sound okay without thinking of what chord it is

  • Freddy

    You have really mastered simplicity

    what a wonderful player

Thanks for all your help, and helping me realize... that jazz isn't all about a million notes a minute

    Roger :-)
