  • When I tried one the pickups sounded a bit thin for my liking, but after watching this... :D

  • Sounds great, but could you give it a tad more gain

  • Hi !

    What's your amp ?

  • Comment removed

  • Nice playing mate !!

  • SG's have more nasty bite then any guitar ever made and that is why I love them so much!

  • @Monsterdrumma Never heard of a Tele?

  • @humbuckr88 Yeah and tele's definitely have bite but it is cleaner to me SG's are similar but the sound is more scattered and nasty both great I just don't think you can get that Angus Young tone anywhere else that's all I am sayin' both great guitars though!

  • I bought a '62 reissue new back in '88 and it was the only guitar that sounded "right" through my Marshall.I think the newer '61 reissues are pretty much identical to the '62's which I think Gibson stopped making in '92.Unfortunately I didn't take good care of it and the neck warped so I sold it.I just found a '97 '61 reissue in walnut that I'm purchasing because that '88 was the best sounding guitar I ever owned, including a Telecaster,a Strat,a '77 Les Paul Custom, and another '68 SG with P90's

  • Love that SG sound.

  • that's a very nice '61 reissue. i've only played one and it sounded like a muddy les paul rather than an SG, but yours has a proper '60s SG honk to it. that's something more people ought to be aware of when buying a gibson - each guitar is individual even if its the same model - so to make sure you'll be 100% satisfied you have to pick carefully. try a lot of them in a lot of shops before you pay that big sum of money. making the effort to hunt down a good one really pays off, though.

  • hello! i got a gibson sg standard 09 but you think i should get the gibson sg 61?.

  • Boy,that baby brings the clang!.....Whats the neck profile like compared to gibson Les Paul Studio....?Thanks for doing a quality demo with quality sound...

  • GODDAMN I PLAYED ONE OF THESE TODAY AND NOW I SEE THIS VID AND IM GONNA ROB THE DAMN PLACE TO GET THIS GUITAR AND FUUUUUUUUUCK I GOTTA HAVE THIS GUITAR! D:

  • Could you make a comparison video Sg standard vs 61?

  • that fuckin' tone is monster....i got an 83 standard & i think i'm gonna throw it out the window & get this.........sounds like a les-paul

  • what kind of amp setup are you using?

  • What's the bit part that is played just before you start playing?

  • When i get my first gibson, it'll either be a 61 reissue or sg standard. Considering I'm left handed, the lefty 61 reissue is A LOT more expensive. I love the 61, but i'm outta luck :(

  • @60ftfilms Take a right handed 61 and just turn it around. Some guitars sound even better when they are played like this.

  • wow that tone is rediculous

  • Personally i dont like that pickguard... i dont know its just me

  • hey man im looking to buy an SG but i dunno if i should get this or the standard in ebony.

there's a link to the other one im thinking about if you could get back to me that'd be cool

  • I've been viewing your video frequently for inspiration, as I've been saving to get this guitar for about two years. You still show me that it'll be worth it in the end.

  • I LOVE YOUR GUITAR

    SG FOREVER!

  • I played on at guitar center the other day. It was a used one, perfect condition and it rocked i tell ya.. The frets are amazing on this guitar. Those pickups rock and roll. One of the best playing guitars and sounding, I'm going to trade my Jazzmaster and some stuff to get it i Hope!!!!!

  • which guitar is in your oppinion better, the standard or the reissue 61 sg?

  • This is thinner than the 08-10 Standard and got a much better feeling to it.

    And its perfect for slide.

  • This man's video is what convinced me to get the Gibson SG 61 RI...Love it man!

  • I just got a $2,100 tax refund today..maybe I should spend it on this badass guitar..

  • @Nanikure yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. forgive the length of my reply.

  • would you recommend me saving up for one of these or buying a standard and switching out the pickups for 57's?

p.s. my guitar icons are Duane Allman/Jerry Garicia etc.

  • In 2005 I bought a 61SG Reissue from Guitar Center for $1.479.00 with hard case brand new. The neck is really thin and the guitar is very light.. The standard SG has a fatter neck. You should try and play one before you decide. The 61SG has the sound I looked for through a Marshall Amp. It was worth the price and plays fast. Great tone and sustain out of the box. It was worth a few hundred more for the 61SG reissue to me. It holds its value well too. This guy plays incredibly well!

  • @HOGOUT haha its funny everyone says it is really light but mines like really heavy, especially for an sg

  • Cool playing.

    Cool riffs.

    Cool guitar.

    Keep on rockin' man.

  • SEXY

  • You make me sick if i could pick any guitar in the world to have it would be that one

  • Right now i have a gibson sg special. My dad doesnt know anything about guitars and thinks that if i bought a 61 reissue i would be wasting my money because the sound would be the same. Can someone please explain the difference for him???

  • @dr1stew

If your dad doesn't play he probably doesn't understand that this is an excellent instrument that will grow with you as a musician. Maybe if you could let him see the opinions of other people who play the guitar he might understand that there are some things he might not be able to hear, but which are very important to guitarists. Maybe you could take him to a guitar shop and let him you hear playing different types -he might even notice the difference for himself:) It's worth a try...

  • on the special the pickups are weaker. it can bruise easier . the neck can be more comfortable on the 61 reissue, meaning make you play faster/ better. more compliments. last longer prolly.

  • well, remember that the guitar doesnt necessarily make the player. but i play an SG standard and i can say it makes playing a lot easier than on SG specials i've tried. The Specials feel sticky on the neck and the unbound neck bothers me. So the standard as an upgrade would be very nice comfort wise. if you dont care about the feel though, a cheaper method would be to upgrade the hardware of your guitar and it would sound the same.

  • one of the best guitars in the world. what an icon.

  • I am excited. Listen to the gain as he turns it up! What do the different impedence pots do to the sound?

  • Excellent tone!

    You have a great vibrato.

  • why shouldnt he play ac dc on an sg

    their wat their for

    AC/DC KICKSASS

  • so fucking amaaaaziiing!!!! :D

    Five Starrrzz

  • where did u get that 1600V capasitor???

  • hi, great playing AND AMAZING GUITAR!! im saving up for this, so i was wondering if u knew the cheapest place for it, thanks!

  • how did you get that yone??!!!

  • is the sg reissue 61 a good guitar for acdc kinda songs like classic rock, like this but with a marshal ap, SOMEONE PLEASE REPLY AND ANSWER ME PLZ!!!!!!!

  • this guitar is simply amazing. it plays like a DREAM but please dont ONLY play AC/DC on it.... it deserves more than that

  • same here! :D

  • you're wrong... :)

  • of course IT IS! This Guitar is just perfect for rock and metal sounds!

  • Are you serious? Of course! Angus plays an SG through a Marshall.

  • I found some influence from Angus Young, Van Halen and Slash...

    =D

  • what strings do u use?

  • incredible playing!!!! you use 0.09 or 0.10 (1°) strings?? cause you can really lift that strings man!!

  • some 1 please advise and help me. i ve got a gibson les paul standard 2007 but i need a back up guitar to it. i was thinking between a gibson flying v, a gibson firebird and a gibson sg standard. Which one would be better. i play classic rock hard rock, blues and classic metal. please some 1 help cheers

  • Believe me..I have sg gibson and flying v...

I prefer SG but for that kinda music, use flying v :)

  • Gibson sg standard would be the best choise bec they're great for hard rock, blues, and classic metal

  • You DONT want a Firebird - very cool looking guitar, but a pain to own. The case is enormous, you cant put the thing down at a gig or rehearsal (it'll tip over if youre not careful), etc., etc.,... I love my SG 61 reissue - great clean sounds, too, IMHO

  • Great playing. Question: What does the aftermarket Capacitor do for the guitar? Thanks.

  • my dream guitar..after watching you play i have decided to go through with getting the reissue..your video has changed my life.

  • Just got my reissue about a week ago and I LOVE it. Yet to put a video up of it yet =\

  • im gonna put a video of it to! i went to a guitar shop yesterday and three people said it was a beautiful guitar

  • Nice tones man!

  • the best sg model!

    (in stock)

  • what song is that???????????????????

  • hell eruption

  • thanks, I think i am going to buy a Gibson SG 61 Reissue

  • Very nice tone for rock sound!!

I had very strong felt from your SG.

    thanks

  • IS it a big difference between the SG Standard and the '61 Reissue?

  • reissues have more of a classic rock sounds but you can get really heavy guitar tones from it and lovely clean sound like the the standard but you cant really get the classic rock sound as good as a reissue depends what you want to play

  • thank you : )

  • Sounds great man!!

  • did you replace tuners, or are those stock grovers?

  • Sounds good, man. Makes me proud to be a fellow SG owner. What amp are you using?

  • this is sweet! i want that guitar.

i wanna trade in my gibson sg standard for one of those 61 reissues

  • I have Gibson SG Standard too('94). It's not bad so much.Good rock'n sounds!

  • Are there difference between standard and 61?

  • Pickups, pickguard shape, hardware finish, and I believe the neck profile is different also but I may be wrong on that one.

  • Thanks. Do you also hear difference in sound or are very similar? What do you prefer?

  • there is a difference in sound cause the 61 is thinner

  • Nope you're right. Where the neck on the '61 conects with the body is at the 22nd fret, on the standard its on the 19th fret, do to the fact that original '61's necks would break quite easily.

  • ya the age

    (X_X)

  • @sgmanfromjapan mate, in 1 month im going to buy and SG but im wondering if I should buy a standaard or reissue? you think reissue is better? please let me know.

    Zwiemenoe

  • I can say at least that the pickups on the 61 reissue feels slightly hotter, its a different taped neck i think, but if you can, try to test both guitars, and try out a few of each untill you find one that feels ''right'', afterall it's often better to try out some of the guitar you want to find the one that feels right for yourself.

And once you've found the guitars that feels great, be carefull of it! When you dont use it put it on an stationary guitar stand/holder, and treat it good,

  • @zwiemenoe , and if you do that you can have the guitar for a long time, dont be afraid to play it but treat it with care and it will give alot of fun for years :)

I'am personaly gonna buy one, i like the pickups better than the normal standards have, also like that it has a different neck, and that the guitar isnt as thick as the standard, also the ''horns'' apperantly is having deeper cutaways if i recall.

    Choose whichever you want :)

  • @Eddiemotor Haha thanks for the help! eventually I bought the standard, and im really not dissapointed! I really like the guitar and im playing with a JMD500 marshall amp.Im really happy with it. And I just put the neck pickup a little higher, and I really think that the standard sounds better then the reissue.Im really treating it well to, Its my baby :)

  • @zwiemenoe no problem :) I'am gonna put an Angus Young Pickup on the reissue i'am gonna buy, but i'am gonna play the guitar for a while first, and record how it sounds like before and after to see which one that feels right for me :)

Gratz of choice of guitar :)
