  • I really like Kai and his vids...BUT....he always seems to discard cheaper lenses and cameras. In this vid for example, he doesn't even give the Nifty Fifty much attention. But when he gets his hands on that Canon 1.2, boy does he get some pep in his step! lol

Go back and take a look at all his vids. You can tell he favors L lenses and the more expensive DSLR's a bit much.

  • @Cjjr72984 Who wouldn't?

  • anybody know the song 7:08 and 7:40?

  • My first acid trip in my life : ) lovely video Kai you I was wondering if I should buy the 1.8 or 1.4 now I know which to buy.

  • @Stop4MotionMakr ok which?

  • quick question Kai: What did you mean when you said: "after f2.8, and the 1.8 actually betters it": at 6:42. It almost sounds like you mean the 1.8 lens is sharper than the 1.2 after 2.8. Is that what you meant to say or am i just hearing what I want to hear?? Also, do you think the 1.8 mark i is optically much different than the mark ii? Thanks for all your awesome video's! Your's are clearly the best of all reviews!

  • "Oh look, bellend! That's rubbish" *Punch, punch, punch.

    "Lets go".

  • Bokeh!

  • next you could perhaps do sony fast 50´s

  • What the hell's up with the Nikon strap on a Canon camera....boourns!

  • heh 1:31 look at the people in the background

  • Hi! Just wanted to say thank you so much for the great job you did on your review with the 50mm lenses! Very well done, and extremely helpful. Thank you!!!

  • why does the 1.8 zoomed in automatically?

  • @shadowheart43 Its the focusing? its a prime which means no zoom.

  • 1.8 is really cheap and the colors are cheap aswell ;) But despite to that I bought my second 1.8, because it actually does really good job. First one fell to the floor accidently and broke few things inside, because is only plastic.

  • One solution for the "cheapness" of the 1.8...FD and learn how to focus manually like many a photographer of years past! I just grabbed one off of ebay for $45 plus shipping...add in the adapter and you probably won't get far past $70. Situation resolved. Maybe they'll add a feature to compare the newer lenses to the old FD's

  • hahaha, 3:14 "BOKEH!"

  • Lok is filming this video with the D7000 !! I never realized that !!

  • For the price, the f 1.4 is all that most people will need. There is a tab bit of fringing depending on your light source, but that's easily fixable in Photoshop or even Lightroom. I have the 1.4, and use it pretty constantly with no problems. I would link to my DeviantART but doesn't look like you use external links on YouTube. You can check my channel though and there's a link in my profile to my DA.

  • you just have to love this guy

  • I cant tell you how much you scouring about in Hong Kong make me just want to move there

  • Thinking about picking up the 50mm f1.4 :|

  • 3:05 is hilariously random! I purchased the 1.4 lens last week after this video, and i LOVE

  • stop playing with the bell end :P

  • gee, i must get one of those cool nikon straps for my canon too lol.

guess that canon sponsorship just evaporated right there eh?

i do enjoy the vids though.

  • Thanks, all I need to make my decision... I got my first SLR. I go to your videos all the time for knowledge and advice.. thanks again

  • two more fullsize photos from the f1.8 toylens..with the cheap f1.8 im getting those 18mpix on the Canon 60D..and that with a 100$ lens...amazing!

    privat.bahnhof.se/wb192876/

  • just remove "%C2%AD" in the link

  • sample pic of the 1.8 toylens ;) on a Canon 60D..f8 ISO100

  • What lens is this video shot with?

  • @digigen I'm not sure at all, but Lock usually uses the 24-105 f4L IS USM together with a 5D mkII

  • 3:05... what was that about? :P

  • not "slightly" cheaper 1.4. the 1.2 is wayyyy more expensive!

  • why do you have a nikon strap....

  • 3:00 Harsh rejection....

  • Can you try to do reviews on a sony 50mm. That would be nice for a change.

  • Yeah the 50mm SUCKS on the t2i. Peice of crap honestly. Its so dull ad the colors are awful. so if you have a t2i dont get it.

  • Damn, this episode should have an epilepsy warning at the start xD

  • I just bougt the 1.4 and I love it!!! :D

  • The 1.2 is simply a Bokehlicious aperture monster camera porn material weather

sealed sexy hunk of glass with a red ring on it ! ROTFL what a sentence

  • lol he really does sound like jeremy clarkson

  • why do you have a nikon strap on a canon?

  • @DGU96 He is a Nikon fan!

  • i think im going to get a 1.8, I'd rather not pay an extra $200 just to get such little better performance, and theres no way in hell I will pay for the 1.2 don't have that much money to spend on a lens

  • @Ipoditouchreview3r i just got the 1.8 toy lens for my 60D ;)..let put it this way..it beats the hell out of the kit lens 18-135.you cant compare the detalis and the sharpness..also the colors are way better..for 100$ its a must have!..i have some raw pictures with it if you want to check

  • @pgice i would love to see your pictures! Message me

  • @Ipoditouchreview3r one up here

  • @pgice Wow! that is a very nice picture, looks great, especially for $106! think im going to get one for sure but im stuck deciding on if i want that or a 70-300 first

  • @Ipoditouchreview3r thanks!..im more than happy with it..but im going to buy the 35mm 1.4L...not that i think i will se that much difference in PQ..but you get the L and f1.4 and also more fov...should be enough..or it isnt hehe

  • @Ipoditouchreview3r one more thing..you will never get these details and sharpness with a zoom lens..stay with a prime for picture quality..zoom with your feet ;)

  • @pgice the reason i want a zoom lens is for stuff i cant get get close to that way and wild life that will leave if you try to get too close

  • @pgice i plan to get both eventually but i dont know which one i want first i have uses for both right now but im thinking the 50mm because i will be taking a lot of pictures of cars starting in around april

  • @Ipoditouchreview3r cool what cars?

  • @pgice Well in april im going to the New York Auto show which has all 2012 cars and in the summer it is going to bed mostly 67-80 Pontiac's and then random other cars like new/old corvettes, mustangs mostly new and what ever else shows up to the car shows i go to

  • @Ipoditouchreview3r the only cars that do well on photos is the M3s ;)

  • Nikon strap :P xD

  • Kai Wong?? lol i think i got it.

  • Kai W is my new idol

  • You gotta love the Nikon strap on a canon camera! LOL

  • @Wistbacka thanks for the tip :) maybe I'll get a good deal for the sigma

  • I don't know whether I should buy the 50 mm f1.8 or a 35mm. I own the 600d, which is a crop sensor camera. so if I would mount a 50 mm lens it would be ca.80mm so 35 mm would be 50mm . But the 50mm would be much cheaper !!! I don't know what to do!!!

  • @STEREO1444 In that case I would very much suggest Sigma 35 mm f/1.4. Expensive compared tot eh 50 f/1.8, but similar to the Canon 50 mm f/1.4. Sigma 35 mm has gotten very good reviews and seem to have excellent buildquality and good sharpness.

    regards

    -W-

  • Is it Singapore? Looks nice

  • @silvertrigga makes you bitching, and still watching.

  • @DoomsterCable don't be a faggot... that is because I am interested in buying a lense and I'm trying to get detailed information before i drop $1,600

  • @silvertrigga Got ya, You could go see the lens in retailer? ;o

  • @silvertrigga

It is what it is... If you don't enjoy them, then you can simply click on another video? I'm sure there's more than 1 review of either of these 50mm lenses on YouTube... Not being funny, but no one is forcing you to watch it, and it's not like this is the only source of reviews!

  • @silvertrigga I'm tired of looking at people complaining judging and trying to tell this guy what to do.i think his videos are fun, entertaining, a good source to get to know these products, and i enjoy watching them. that's his style so if you're looking for some Pro reviews with a pair of hands and one camera angel then this is not for u. try to appreciate the hard work thats put to make these videos. you're not being an asshole but you sure do sound like one. you're welcome

  • @jasonyanjinyu I didn't judge anybody... and i made that comment a month ago. I have already bought my camera with a 24-105mm lense and am very happy

  • have they increased the saturation of the sample photos? the colors look so strong...

  • liked the nikon strap on the 5D :D

  • Canon camera and lens Nikon strap? what game are you playing at? sponsored by Nikon?

  • as i was watching this video my 50 mm f/1.8 arrived at my house

  • Most people look at the value vs the dollar value. The 1.8 is actually pretty good. It does feel cheap but the quality of pics are not bad at all. In comparison the 1.2 is certainly not worth the extra money making the 1.8 the winner in my mind. You could buy photoshop with some of the change and take the background more out of focus for free and go on holiday to take more pictures. It's like taking a knife to a gunfight.

  • can't afford the 1.2 Lens? try this.. lasso tool- edge feather- lens blur. viola!

  • Comment removed

  • 1:55 "Cheapoy" This guy over exaggerates. He makes it seem that the 50mm 1.8 lens is a piece of crap. Yes it is made of plastic....but whats more important is how well it works. It has a shallow depth of field, takes sharp photos, great in low light, its lightweight and its affordable. At times his reviews seem bias.

  • @NextSelection671 1i think the plastic mount does not influences the image quality. I agree with you. the main point is the F/ ... :) we know Canon has made and included more plastic alloys without sacrifice quality. Even the cameras include more this components in the body also nikon does it :P (it helps the weight bla bla bla)

  • Love my 1.4

  • Nikon really makes good strap! So good that they use them for Canon!

  • @pepckat lol. Actually its the only thing that Nikon is good at.... making straps!

  • Haha. Canon camera and Nikon strap :D nice lol

  • Can you not watch Top Gear before doing the reviews?

  • the new strap of canon

  • 4.00 min Nikon ?

  • It's a shame you didn't show the comparison shots from the f1.8

  • would you prefer the 50 on an APS-C sensor aswell?

  • there's anything wrong with a nikon strap on a canon camera?

    it's just a strap... =.=

  • I've found my self saying things ending in -ness, with an extra -ness. i'm not complaining haha

  • Nikon strap on Canon camera???

  • You faggot, you use a Nikon STRAP on a Canon camera.... FOOL!

  • @JuliumCS Does it really matter? It's just a strap.

  • I like the Nikon strap on the Canon camera xD

  • is the color and contrast so vivid because the lens? or the body? i have a canon 60d

    would it be similar?

  • What is a "crop-sensored camera"?

  • @MightyRoy A camera with a sensor smaller than a full-fram (35mm) camera. There is a crop factor of 1.6 on canon's crop sensored APS-C sized sensor cameras. so a 50mm on a APS-C sized sensor is actually 80mm

  • nikon strap on a canon ftw

  • JESUS the girl at 1:27....

  • He should of provided a Low Light Test on the Lens........

  • raceism to the 1.8 one ?

  • I feel like Jeremy Clarkson is reviewing camera lenses

  • @tommyions exactly what I was going to say. An Asian Jeremy Clarkson reviewing camera lenses! Better dressed but equally un-grown-up.

  • BOKEH!

  • Why was there no sample pictures of the Canon EF 1.8 II???? Kinda hard to compare withouth any pictures..

  • @Wistbacka they did a few

  • @Wistbacka at 2:00 there is.

  • @Wistbacka it probably didn't exist when this was filmed. Nov 26, 2010

  • @Wistbacka its at 7:14

  • @Wistbacka

He is using it in the beggining?

  • @Wistbacka There was only one, which is pointless...

  • @97adhib Thank you! My point exactly. But the fellows here that's been replying to me, haven't seemed to notice that.

This video was really made to only show off the more expensive lenses.

  • @Wistbacka I konw right, to be honest DRtv only do reviews on the REALLY expensive lenses, for example the leica noticlux 50mm F0.95. which general photographer will be purchasing, and pretty much every Canon lens they review is an L lens or is over £800.When they do consumer level lens reviews (Which I don't think they've even done) they just slag them off.

  • @Wistbacka --There is! Go to 2:05 into the video.

  • @loadedforbare Yes! But that is the only one. One single sample of one subject, while the other two lenses' samles are shown all through the review.

  • My heart skipped a beat when I saw him put the cameras on the edge. Kai Kai Kai.

  • Great video. Would love to see some low light comparisons as well, perhaps indoors. Thanks for the comparison!

  • 7:52 made my life.

  • why do you have a nikon strap on a canon hahaha

  • 1:35 priceless

  • when you say "a price like this" can you actually say what that price is?

  • @ortleysurfer4197 no because the prices change all the time..

  • what camera does he use to record this video?

  • @wannab43 Looked like a Nikon.

  • My EYES!!

  • it makes no sense... since when is bigger and heavier better? i thought the most expensive lenses should perform better but save weight. its like he talks about the weight and size more than the performance.lol but thats just me, and i cant wait to get my nikon d3100 on christmas :D.

  • hey kai,

i really enjoy watching ur videos

but can u maybe make a review of the tamron 70-300 sp di usd ?

  • This really isn't very informative. Especially for an 8 minute video.

  • Look ate the Canon MTF charts from the 1.2 and the 1.4 version on their website. The 1.4 is clearly the sharpest wide open ate F 1.4 Also the corners of the 1.2 are very very bad.Even Canon itself admits that the 1.4 is the best one.Take a look ate the Canon advertising brochures and folders.,their is always a 1.4 on the camera. So this Kai is talking BULLSHIT.

  • the 1.2 is MONSTER

  • Comment removed

  • nice Nikon strap ;)

  • Wish you would have compared the Canon 50mm f/2.5 Macro as well, which is hard to find a review on... however it is listed as a qualifying Canon Professional Services membership in Silver, Gold and Platinum!

  • can you just shoot and show the results??

  • I read that 50mm is normal for full size sensor dslr like the one is this video but for a small sensor like the 550d a 35mm is normal so take care what you buy.

  • Nikon strap on a Canon.

  • I liked it when DRTV made videos like this before all the alamby fanboys came along.

  • nikon strap on a canon camera?

  • I've got the 1.8 and it really does take amazing photos.

Great speed, sharpness, bokeh, and low light performance.

I laughed aloud at the commentary in this video, Kai is a great presenter!

  • This guy irritates the crap out of me

  • I'm sorry. why have you the nikon's string? :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Ernests11245

Its a Nikon D7000 that they painted pink a while ago.

  • what's the name of Lok's pink camera??? someone?? :D

  • I own a 1.8 50mm lens and I am really happy with its performance for the price :)

Cheap yet one of the BEST...!!

  • I wouldn't put a 2000$ camera to the barrier's edge

  • @mogyesz225 Iwould to get you guys all puffed up! lol

  • I've watched a good few DigtalRevTV reviews with Kai presenting. His style is ok but far too much time is given to him waffling on. This isn't Kai's fault. For sure he has a large ego and all his jokes are sometimes a bit, well, naff but after all he is a presenter and all good presenters have ego's. The problem I have is the edit. This review is far too flabby and could of taken half the time of the 8.26 to acheive. I like the DigitalRevTV reviews and Kai but please be more brutal in the edit.

  • lol I keep getting nervous for all his stuff on the ledge

  • oh i have....you are a knob who's ego is larger than your reviews.

  • what a knob head of a person!Leave your ego at home when you are meant to be reviewing things or stay off camera.

  • @bobwebb114 You are obviously new to DigitalRev. If you don't like these videos, then stop watching.

  • 3:05 lol

  • I swear, 1300 euro for a 1.2 i think u can get a 7D kit with that

  • WHERE IS THIS? So awesome!

  • @intellegentz hong kong

  • @WillDinn Thanks...of course they get the cool stuff!

  • Paying 1100 euros more for only a half f stop off light? Not even a full f stop? Come on give me a break. This 1.2 lens is a Canon prestiese lens just like the 1.0 one

  • thumbs up for lok using the P I N K O N!

  • Hey nice review. What's the cinematographer's setup?

  • @ 0:25 ..... too smoove too smoove.....

  • its the same two comments on all this asian guys videos why the nikon strap and its like the topgear of cameras.

  • @ 3:23 is that lok?!

and would anyone recommend the 50mm f1.8?

and is it a good idea to buy the canon 550d with the standard 18-55mm lens and the 50mm f1.8 as a second lens?!
