I should point out that the international versions are faithful to the Scud Race I played as a kid. From that, I can only assume each version emulated the SR version for the respective region.
I've got absolutely no idea how you did the bits at 01:47 and 02:40 onwards at pretty much full speed. I end up catching a wall or something that makes me lose enough speed I can't gear drfit and I end up spinning out. Best time I can manage, without crashing once, is 3 mins 7 secs - and the second place CPU car still managed to overtake me on one of the last corners. Arrgh!
1.47 wasn't at full speed. I hit the wall on the way out. However, I can get full speed through there using gear drifts. After the initial drift to the left, when the car begins to straighten up I gear drift the moment the car is straight. Because my wheels are still "smoking" at that point, the game assumes i'm doing the usual counter steer drift and throws me into a strong drift to the right. Usually - On this occasion, I didn't time it well so my drift wasn't as strong :(
As for 2.40, the trick is to get yourself out of the drift after that slight right turn so you can drive straight through over the bridge before the second drift right. Many people drift right then left before the right and it's that left which leaves you unprepared for the final right turn. Ultimately, for both of these corners, you need to gear drift - brake drifting doesn't cut the corner tight enough. In fact, you NEVER need to brake drift at any stage in the game.
@Noobsaibot21 Thanks for the advice. I think the bit about making sure you're not drifting left before you go over the bridge is something that's tripped me up many times. That zig-zag turn at 02:52 is an absolute nightmare as well. The amount of times I've had a near perfect run through all the proceeding bits only to clip the wall on the right and completely spin out.... :( I still love this bonus track though, even though it has made me want to smash my contoller up on more than one occasion
Cheers Thunderwig. Don't know why your comment was marked as spam - seems perfetly fine. I dont have any facebook but you're more than welcome to share it there :)
Hey dude, great video. I never realised there were differences between the Japanese and western versions of the Outrun 2 bonus stages. I wonder why these improvements weren't in the EU/US versions? BTW, could I interest you in joining my campaign to try and get Scud Race converted to PS3 and 360? Just Google search "Scud Race PS3" and it's the second link from the top. Thanks in advance if you do!
There is no place you can get AWAAAAAAAAAY!!
