Oh my gosh.I just LOOVE this score at the end credits! It mixes with emotion, from a dire tone of disaster and doom to ultimate triumphant and hope at the end! Love love love it! XD
Spectacular score to a dreadful film. The late great Jerry Goldsmith composed this during one his busiest and productive years... 1978. DAMIEN OMEN II, THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL, CAPRICORN ONE, and several more were during this year. The man was a genius. He may be gone, but his music will be with us forever.
Considering the scores Goldsmith was writing during this period (1977-79), 'The Swarm' always sounded lightweight to me. I know almost everyone loves this score, but I still feel that Goldsmith has his tongue firmly in his cheek scoring this film. It just still sounds a bit silly (and I realise the film was both very silly and very bad). Anyway that's just my opinion, it doesn't mean anything except how I personally react to the score.
@DOMuricu Indeed . This one is very lightweight for Science Fiction/Thriller as lightweight is The Boys From Brazil also . MacArthur is lightweight to , considering Goldsmith's score for Patton 7 years before .
I love this theme! I used it for my student animation project back in 89. Thank you Mr. Goldsmith i was employed for 15 years even going all the way to Japan to work. I love you Goldsmith!
This is actually from the Prometheus-released complete score album, though I do also have the "Essential Jerry" album as well. I like this rendition slightly better, though both are virtually identical.
You are indeed correct that the main theme is first stated on notes spelling out the word "bee." I don't know if Jerry did this on purpose or if the notes' ostensible double meaning was just a coincidence.
At 1:39, you kind of expect a bee to come out with a Darth Vader helmet on his head! XD LOL!

Is this from 'The Essential Jerry Goldsmith' compilation? Also, is it true that the primary notes used are 'B','E','E'.?
