I have a question. I know i've read before that you use acrylic paint on your mats.

Do you do a light sketch on the mat first or do you just do a free hand pant?

It's always important to 'map out' what your planning to draw before you do so. I even draw a thumbnail sketch before I apply it to the mat. I use Watercolor pencil to sketch on the mat, that way it washes out when I paint over it. If you use lead pencil, it'll prominently show and will never wash out completely.

No no, acrylic paint. Any sort of ink (even 'permanent' ones') bleed and fade. :)
