Dear, "Video Artist"' your "work" is ignorance! Ballet is not circus. And great artists are not to be messured or compared by their quantity of turns or what ever that you find amusing for yourself. If you have any contact with dance you should feel ashamed for the vulgarity that is presented here.
The grandfather of all of them is Vakhtang Chabukiani - he invented the modern notion of a male ballet dancer. Also, he is the choreographer of the male dancing in Corsaire pas de deux.
Why does there have to be a "best"? I think MB is the most powerful and crisp.RN in this version is more fluid--can we say it is a kind of Jazz?--certainly more definite than the 1958 version featuring a younger self. And Corella is notable for his .more etherial quality. Each has his greatness, which is why we love them.
As a none dancer but definetley a ballet fan I honestly thought them all mesmerizing. The only thing I will say for why I prefer Mikael is that his movements are just ... effortless. It's hard to explain but he's moves they are so fluid they don't even look like he's putting any concious thought or effort into dancing, he just does - like his body is doing the dancing and he's just letting it! Beautiful :D
@vikcapella I also studied dance for 10 years, danced professionally for 10 and have taught ever since. I often use Misha as an example of sheer power, and Rudy as an example of feeling the music through movement! Truly both were amazing, dynamic performers! It's like comparing A muscle car to a refined sports car in this case though! Misha had more power and energy in his performance however Rudy's was more fluid albeit flawed.
@ThePaulE1974 I'm sure you're much better than I, comparing the technicalities of a performance. I think that Misha had a lot of fluidity & grace too, but in a few spots I felt that Rudy had a little too much "undulation" that came across too feminine for the part.
and yours is the worst comment on this video.... to call " nothing" a dancer like Corella and have the ovaries to write it here is an insult to Ballet... "BEACH" !
that was already 16 when started at vaganova accademy his full classical training ,so very late in front normal 11/12 years old standard student,so did really a lot
My mother actually saw both Nureyev and Baryshnikov live. She said that Nureyev was taller and more graceful, but Baryshnikov was more athletic, but she said that they had one thing in common: They looked like they were flying.
@phantom4087 me too saw them very close nureyev was about 174/5 cm tall handsome and very particular face micha was really small with pale very white russian face not a particulary good looking boy surely.both very athletic ,micha was one much better dancer, but rudy being a very latestarter did miracles.
@madmarni1 like you said...it's a matter of taste. Peter is very graceful but he doesn't have Mischa's power, athleticism, precision and most importantly...his presence.
peter could easily defeat the most of the russians ,but he had not all the pubblicity of the defection, but was terrific l saw him many times at his best time, terrific really
I'm no expert just someone who loves dance. But Baryshnikov just does not have the physic of Nureyev, and above all the presence. In geniuses there is something that one just can not define. It's just there. It shines out like a light in the dark. There was and will only be one Rudolf Nureyev.
I know he's a modern boy but you guys should check out Brooklyn Mack's performance of this, also on youtube. He has incredible elevation, especially in the coda :)
watch the videos all individually, Mikhail is BY FAR the best.. not even close.. Corella just doesnt have the power and Nureyev is falling out of almost every one of his turns! Mikhail is and will be the best maybe ever... Agree????
Baryshnikov has the most "masculine" performance, Nureyew was never known as the most acurate and clean dancer but one that would have died for dance, Corella is a blast to watch in his qualitiy for not beeing Russian:)
Looking at their whole performances separately.: Angel the most exciting in my opinion! Mikhail is the most insane complete dancer who puts in you awe. The stuff he does is unbelievable, and Nureyev had style like no other. I have to give it to Mik.
what an idea!! you put in the same video two genious of the ballet, and them next to them Corella, LOL.Very good so we can see how far away he is from beeing a legend in ballet. Thanks
Yes, they are all great. That's why they are at the ABT... The funny thing is that most of them are not north american, only Julie Kent and Ethan, who are always the main dancers hahaha
Yes, I love with all my heart Roberto Bolle, they are all at the American Ballet, aren't they? I never saw Marcelo Gomes... I will check then. Julio bocca is also great, he was Misha's student once, as same as Ethan Stiefel.
Corella is REALLYY good!!! I was on stage on he did 8 pirouettes on that!! was absolutely amazing!!! But truly, no one can be like Misha!! Misha is the VERY BEST dancer eveerr!! Corella is the best after him!!
OF COURSE there's no other dancer like Misha. Corella is really good and he enjoys it a lot. However, Vladimir Malakhov and Ethan Stiefel are also great
Great idea, but a little difficult to appreciate such quick cuts between dancers. I don't know if it would be technically possible, but I'd love to see a split screen, with these three greats doing Corsaire side-by-side!
I love Corella & have seen him live, but think Baryshnikov is the best. I just find Nureyev too effeminate in his mannerisms.
Misha!

Baryshnikov's is clearly the best. Nuryev looks sloppy compared to him, and corella looks wimpy compared to him....

Baryshnikov has always been the best. Nureyev is the father of ballet, but Baryshnikov is the student who overcame the teacher
