i caught a tiger in a creek in PA this year. They havent stocked them for a 3 or 4 years. was the one i caught wild, or just a survivor from the last stoking of tigers?
I live in eastern PA, and just caught a 16in tiger trout today in a creek with a mepps spinner. I have never caught or even seen a tiger trout before in my life. Are they as rare as i think they might be? Was i lucky to catch this?
@TLHookUp your tigers over there look diferent than ours yours look like a mak cross of some sort... ours look much more like a brown trout only with bands not spots...
A usually fish for pike or wild bwonies but ma local loch is starting to stock these, hadnt even heard o them before but they look like pretty cool fish, might have to go and catch me some
Very nice, they look different depending on where you are, in WV they look a little different. I caught a few and had them in my creek, the largest was 17" But sadly they are expensive for the hatcheries to raise so they stopped stocking them for a while.
these things are pretty rare....i caught one that was 19 inches 3 and a half pounds in williams river wv and the rumor is that they havent stocked a tiger trout for 5 years.
Your right better to let the trout go so it can die a slow death instead. You know when the summer temps start warming up our shallow ponds and the trout have no thermo-cline refuge to retreat to, theyll croak and slowly rot away. But in your eyes I guess thats a much better way to handle the put and take resource instead of utilizing the hatchery fish as they were intended for (and yet Im the A-hole).
For wild fish and put and grow fisheries I totally understand your concern in conservation with C&R and proper handling. However most of MA trout are a Put and Take Fishery. Most of the trout stocked in our Shallow lakes don't make it Past Summer (due to high temps). These are not wild trout, nor do they reproduce. So under the right circumstances I have no guilt keeping a few for dinner. With all do respect does it really matter if they are hung on a grip device before they get eaten?
Dude I caught one of these in the swan river in montana fishing a nymph, I was like wtf is this. It was all black with tiger stripes.

Heard of put and take hatchery trout, that don't generally survive over the summer in shallow ponds.

the state must stock all of these, they are very rare in the wild. a wild tiger is a rare, once in a lifetime catch.

are they natural or is it a farm
cuz ive heard there really rare
BUZAND24 2 years ago
They are natural, in places where both spawning brook trout and brown trout Co-exist but yes its extremely rare.
Most tigers caught are hatchery raised and stocked out, like the ones shown on my video.

no need to catch & release a trout that can't breed. They were 'designed' to catch (and eat)...
