I think we don't necessarily need physical contact, but that it would be nice. I also think it totally depends on what kind of relationship it is. Friendship is very different from relationship-relationships and I think the amount of physical contact we feel we need is different in each kind of relationship.

I don't really think you have to meet someone IRL to be good friends with them, but seeing someone IRL does make you feel closer to a person.
