  • Just tried this recipe. I hardly ever get sick but... wow, if I discovered a "new" continent with the cold I've got right now, every defenseless original inhabitant would be dead within a week.

As I re-watch the video I realize I forgot the butter, which is probably the secret ingredient meant to keep salmonella from the egg yolk in check. No matter -- still tasted good. Used a mixture of Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or and Quinta Ruban for extra sweetness.

Cheers, Ralfy! Your videos are a treat.

  • Aww man what a trooper I'll remember that

  • whisky marks ? blended ?

  • sick, and still doing a whiskey review!!!! your the man!!!!

  • I'm late, but this is the genius Ralfy's video.

  • For all you Ralfy lovers out there, this is the funniest episode ever made!

  • Then take grain alcohol like everclear, then fill the chilies with the grain, chew and then swallow this incindiary remedy. Then I put on like 3-5 shirts and 3 pairs of sweat pants hop right into bed and put on as many blankets, comforters on and in the morn you'll feelot much better

  • One thing that I do when I have bodily winter sickness...cold flu...etc., I cut open 3 Bhut Jalokia or Habanero chilies leaving the seeds in...basically cutting off the stem and where the stem was a hole.

  • Love it.

  • warm beer, honey, spices, yolk (at home in Poland)... next time I get cold I'll try hot Toddy... and all you shocked people, raw yolk well mixed with sugar, is delicious

  • I'm guessing the egg is for texture.

  • the whole transcription would be welcome for a esl student! :)

  • Thanks for recipe. First i have to settle down the way you did.

What did you say after "and then...", between 6:00 and 6:05 "knocking back and i wonna"? something like that? i guess scottish

thank you if you write that phrase

    Thanks anyway

  • @klett69

knock it back in a one-er (all at once) ... good luck.

  • I tried to mash this up with the classic honey and lemon for a cold. Replaced sugar with 2 teaspoons honey, added a slice fo lemon, (and no ginger syrup = ground ginger only if it makes a difference). It was fantastic, might have it even when i dont have a cold.

  • @fuckinick

    ... yes !

  • If you have five minutes, you can make your own ginger syrup. Cut and peel a three inch piece of ginger into six equal pieces and put into a pot with 2 cups of sugar and one cup of water. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and wait for the sugar to dissolve. Remove from heat, take out the ginger pieces, and let cool. Finally put your syrup in the fridge.

  • Ralfy your are a treasure! Take care Old Cleat :).

  • Ralfy you are a genius! I must try this!

  • I got to be honest, that actually looks really good. The egg part sort of made me wonder, but then when I saw the outcome I was stunned. I can't wait to try it.

  • Surely Ralfy the egg is raw and uncooked so man that must be rough. Also by addin butter do you really want to be drinking coldish/ lukewarm scummy rubbish- no. Enlighten me plz.

    Happy drinking!

  • ... don't knock it till you try it. There's a lot worse goes into a cocktail.

  • the egg would probably cook anyway in the hot tod

  • @RachelFuryRocks

Almost makes one want to have a cold..lol!

  • I believe you had a real cold there, no joking.

Breaking the egg in your drink almost made me barf.

What does the egg do other than providing nutrition?

  • creamy, eggy richness ! .... yummy.

  • to true, true, dude!

  • This looks great. I've had plenty of hot toddy's in my day, and this recipe might just be the pick of the bunch.

  • Hey Ralft.

i have a cold now and i treyd your hot toddy.

it's a great hot toddy recepy!!

    i veld te differents inmideatly

  • ... well thanks for the comments Robin, and I hope your cold clears up as well as mine did after a few of these hot toddys.

  • diagonosis:

Swine flu N1H1. Polish High spirits needed.

    Tip: spirytus rektyfikowany will do!

  • Hi Ralf, I'm feeling a little under the weather now myself! Think I might be fighting a cold.

  • Ralfy,

Glad you're doing better and thanks for the recipe. It looks like it would definitely give relief when you're under the weather.

By the way, what spices are in the "mixed spice"? I'm wondering if we have an equivalent here in the States.

  • mixed spice is -

    cinnamon

    coriander

    clove

    star anise

    and other exotic stuff !

Any Delicatessen will help you out !!

    .... and good luck.

  • yea thats true if its just a virus,, antibiotics dont work

  • Just a thought, Ralf; could the stem ginger syrup be replaced by some Golden syrup and either fresh grated ginger or some Rochester Ginger drink? By the way, Rochester is great with a good blend (I like Teachers) as a warming winter Whisky Mac.

  • .... if it's gingery and sweet, go for it !

  • It is that!

  • feel better ralfy,,, you should go to a doctor and take a antibiotic though

  • Unless he has pneumonia, he should NOT have antibiotics unless he wants to contribute to dangerous drug resistance in bacteria.

  • ... TRUE !

'alldayubum' is well intentioned in suggesting antibiotics, but I personally will never consider antibiotics for viral infections as without them, natural immunity is improved, and by misusing them the value (if ever really needed) is greatly reduced.

I am now well on the mend, and thanks all of you, for the sympathy.

    ...cheers.

  • Good to hear you're feeling better - why do we blokes always get flu and women only ever seem to get colds?!

  • Hope you feel better ralfy, Take care.

  • man RALFY..take care. Thank you for your dedication.

  • Feel better and thanks for the recipe!

  • Ginger syrup? Do you realise how many people are going to be trying to find a jar of that? I'm guessing it was a jar of preserved ginger from which you poured some syrup.

Get well soon you miserable old fart. Luv from your little bruv.

  • Brotherly love eh?

  • ... yeh !
