  • Did anybody notice that this scene totally influenced Drive's opening chase?

  • this movie is so cool i wana watch another movie like this

  • Good scene and recommendations but what about 'Vanishing point'?

  • Comment removed

  • So much better than Drive!

  • Same, Felix!

  • I came here because of the Benny Hill Comment by ROBLOXains LOL

  • benny hill

  • and then, the games ''Driver'' and ''GTA'' were born

  • like if you were redirected from the benny hill theme video lolz

  • Why wouldn't the police just hit him at the end if they were going to crash anyway?

  • @Savaniel it's called fear dude. They didn't knew they would crash. A better strategy would be to slow down to have more time to shoot and to shoot preciselly.

  • @Savaniel Not a videogame:D Its very dangerous.

  • The Benny Hill Theme does go quite well. :)

  • i guess they haven't heard of road spikes

  • Did anyone else play the benny hill theme song over this?

  • Try this in a prius!

  • LTD 440 CID FMX TRANSMISSION

  • Hey Just listen to the crash sound at 2:48 and then listen to the sounds from Driver... It`s literally the same!

  • Great chase

  • good thing ryan kept it in the city with that pussy-ass M400 queer block cause the faster you get the faster those 440 powered gran furys get & would easily out-handle & man-handle the ltd to the ditch. Back in 78 the producer thought you'd buy watching a 80+ lb trucklid lift off with a few buckshots...now that's a total joke.

  • this is the best chase ever been in the movies history the rumbles of those big blocks engines are just wonderfull

  • cars are too

    slow

  • yes it is i'm glad u caught that...

  • wtf at 2:50 the getaway car has no trunk then at 3:23 the car has a trunk again ?

  • @bensambob2000 nice spot. Probably the first scene was recorded later with the trunk off or something :D. Sometimes scenes are recorded backwards.

  • @bensambob2000 at least you know they used real cars in the movies back then and not just CGI ;)

  • i think driver parallel lines is based off this movie

  • @bensambob2000 Driver 1 actually is based on this.

  • At 022 we see a car pas in front of the getaway car L to R. The getaway car then swings right to reveal the street. Where does the other car go? It seems to dissapear, or have I missed something?

  • gotta love those old Ford LTDS....LOL

  • @racerdbo Why a remake? Enjoy this timeless original! Stunning action, excellent plot. First class acting by Ryan O'Neal and Bruce Dern, the two main characters. And yes, it is a full fledged movie.

  • is the driver series based off of this movie? they need to remake this but newer

  • haha even the horn noise is the same in the game

  • luv this movie!!!

  • Dude.. 70's cops are stupid..

  • @lovenopeace Well, you also need to remember that the police tactics in the '70's is much different than it it today. Police didn't have the training for high speed chases back then, as they do today. Back then, it was pretty much chase the perp until he crashes, or you crash.....plus, its only a movie ;)

  • 3:41 that sound effect is from the game "DRIVER" (1999)

    listen carefuly ;-)

  • @koums94 Yeah, you're right! :)

  • what kind of cars were the cops using?

  • @d0ugz24

1977 FORD LTD AMERICAN POLICE CAR

Most possibly. They are FORD LTD for sure and are with mopas 440 or 460 engines ;). Pretty much used in many states across america as I see them a lot in old movies with police chases :).

  • @LucaTurilli89

what about dodge monaco ? when and where was it used ? :)

  • @wrabowrabs check PM.

  • @d0ugz24 you were lied to by this faggot know-it-all LucaTurilli89. in this chase scene they used 1974-1975 Dodge Monaco Full Sized Police Interceptors for this chase. They either had 440s or 460s in them because of their ruggedness and beefed-up suspensions. just setting the facts straight

  • @TouringAviation dumb fuck. I didn't said I know it all! I said "Most possibly" because they really look alike. However my answer was in caps because I pasted it. I don't know a lot about cars but I was curious too so I searched google and wanted to help. There is no need for insults here.

  • @TouringAviation thanks for the info, appreciate it!

  • @TouringAviation the 460 is not a Mopar engine, that would be a Ford product. The 460 came standard in the Lincolns of the era of this movie.

  • @d0ugz24

The police cars are actually 1974-1975 Plymouth Furys....they used a different grille from the similar Dodge Monaco. The getaway car is a 1973 Ford Galaxie 500.

The Galaxie would have had the somewhat rare 400ci Cleveland V8 or possible a 429ci "385 series" big block V8, whereas the Plymouths would have almost certainly used 440ci "RB series" V8s. The police cars, in this case, would be a bit faster than the getaway car, but they don't have the Driver himself behind the wheel. ;)

  • @RadialSkid thanks a lot dude. Added this for the video info ;).

  • @steveb391 can you make any better? (;

  • Ya see?...Yet again the FORD outwits the police in their DODGE cop cars

  • Fake Crap!!!

  • Jesus Christ that siren is loud. Argghhhhh!!!!!!!

  • a good driver can hold his own against any type of car

in this case mr o'neal handled the car very well

its all about the skill of the driver

  • LOL 3:42 Driver on the PS1 used that noise.

  • A good question, is there movie that has a scene of a police chase of a suspect that suddenly the suspect runs out of gas and runs?

  • wooooooooow driver reference at 2:46 that crash noise!

  • When i get off work im gonna go home take a hot shower eat a good meal then im gonna smoke a fat joint kick back and watch ''The Driver''....Haven't seen it since 2002

  • I wish I could get this car in Need For speed

  • I have always liked this movie, and I own it.

  • Sweet! :D I even did this in Midtown Madness 2, and in GTA! :D And also in Driver 1 and Parallel Lines! :D Sweet movie indeed, I have a legal dvd copy of this, far out! :D

  • At 2:48, that car crash sound is the same crash/damage in Driver 1 & 2 the games!

  • Comment removed

  • @KingofTomedy it's more likely the crash sound taken for Driver 1 was the one at 5:44

  • @gabdriver2 Pretty much the same recycled sound.

  • hey why do ppl get the impression US cars are bad handling? If that's the typical US car I'd say it handled quite well. especially the last turn.

  • Oh my word, I love this

  • GTA

  • Oops I meant orange merc.

  • Saw this when it came to the uk in 78.directed by the genius Walter hill.terrific pre cgi crap.the car park/pink merc seen is a classic for every petrolhead.

  • 2:49 and 3:41 -That exact 'crashing' sound effect is used in the videogame Driver.

  • The black dude in the back seat is ''Bill Minor'' he is a well known actor and Stuntman in Hollywood since the late sixties.

  • @bjroberts65 He's been in lots of films and TV shows like The A-Team.

  • @bjroberts65 He's done so many stunts that when he rolled a car end over end for Blues Brothers 2000 in 1998 he ended up with brain concussion and temporarily lost his memory. This was not because he did the stunt wrong - the stunt went perfectly - but because his body couldnt take any more impacts - that's how many stunts this guy has done(!)

  • Reminds me of the game Driver 1 for ps1

  • This movie kicks ass

  • I love the purity of this chase. No names, no dialogue, no crazy-making 60-shots-a-minute MTV cutting. Just roaring engines, speeding metal, squealing rubber, strategy and driving skill.

  • My God! This IS the Driver series XD

  • Can't believe I fotgot about this movie

  • i just watched this movie last night, love it. hey, do you have the end chase scene between the driver in the pickup and the firebird?

  • @Kikujirosan never mind, i see it on the side there.

  • hahahaha this is great!

  • is the game Driver based on this movie?

  • @luisvizi it has many references to the movie so I think it is 100% ;).

  • @LucaTurilli89 Yeah I read in some website, Driver is absolutely based on this movie.

  • @LucaTurilli89 The scene where he drives out of the parking lot is identical to the one in this video. Except he doesn't crash in this one :P

  • @LucaTurilli89 this movie, bullit and i think the french connection also

  • @LucaTurilli89

nope. it's inspired by it but it's not based on the movie.

  • @LucaTurilli89 yeah, and sound effects too, especially crash sounds :D

  • @luisvizi 2:50 same crash sound as Driver, so i'd garantee it.

  • @luisvizi its definately inspired by this and all other '70s car chase movies, but the bit with the orange merc in the carpark was almost exactly like the 1st mission in driver 1

  • @luisvizi the game uses the same crash sounds that were used twice in this clip!

  • @luisvizi Even the sound of those car crashes are the same from the Game! :D

  • @luisvizi Yes.

  • @luisvizi Yes, greatly influenced by this movie. Even the sounds were taken edited into the game from this movie.

  • You young whippersnappers have got to stop being concerned with these minor technical details. That is not what the film is about. It is about a man who refuses to play by anybodies rules but his own. Not societies and also not the criminal underworld. Another good film in this genre is "Charley Varrick, " also from the 70's. The film is about rejecting consumerist consumption not embracing it as a route to social upward mobility. He doesn't care about cars; they're disposable tools.

  • High quality my nuts...

  • @Reegatron you must click on 480p on the lower right in the video screen dude. It was also DVD RIP.

  • @Reegatron fuck you reegatron

  • @NYCPulpHero

only after your mother entertains my wang

  • STUUUPPIIIDDDD.

  • theres no way that ltd could outrun those 440 mopars even if it did have a 460 in it

  • @resister79 the police could be scared to drive at max speed who knows. :D And it is a movie after all :P. Couldn't it had a more powerful engine and how did you knwo the police had exactly 440 mopar engine?

  • @resister79 He never did out run them. Every time he got some breathing room those cop cars ran him down and got on his ass. He just out drove them.

  • @resister79 he didnt , the police were all over him

  • Cool igot the driver 1 game (pc) on my pc

  • if you have been played driver 1 you recognised the sound of scrapping cars and watch carefully from 2:14 to 2:20 it's the same scene from the intro of driver

  • 5:45 100% the exact same sound of the broken cop car :)))) =). I like how familiar are they.

  • @LucaTurilli89

Also I find the crash sound at 2:48 very familiar.....

    Driver for the win

  • you can sure tell there running a federal siren with the twinsonic light bar cool sound.

  • 1:37 I think is the one of the coolest shots in the chase

  • 2:20, those big Gran Furys had 440s :o

  • @hamtrak Not gran furys Dodge Monaco's & yes they had 440's :-)

  • Mar Kjartansson! Perfect exciting criminal movie with many old powerfull cars I saw here in the old day´s

  • Also there are no names in the movie. They are just referred as The Driver, The Detective, etc............

  • @DC322: Wouldn't that make things a bit hard and confusing?

  • @geekgo4 I don't think so. The writers who did the screenplay for Driver may have left those characters nameless on purpose.

  • That Ford was movin' and groovin'

I noticed at 2:50 and 2:04 the Ford has a trunk lid glitch.

  • i love the mercury vapor street lights ! and the 1974 ford galaxie 500 !

  • I only wish that the car was a color red.

  • I did this on GTA.

  • srry that is crap for kids, driver: parallel lines match this better. (same year)

  • can someone post the full movie?

  • that was the shit!

  • Love the rumble of those big 440's at 4:53!!!!

  • Its no LTD btw, I think its a 1973 Fairlane 500. But it has a nice engine sound, hasn´t it? Had once an Mercedes E 200 with broken exhaust, sounded similar xD

  • its a '74 galaxie 500. in the U.S fairlane prouction ended in 1970

  • Sounded as good as it looked!! Amazing!!

  • i so wish they would bring this awesome movie to DVD!

  • they did.

  • Did they really? When?

  • @califgirl101 it is on DVD, infact, Amazon and eBay are selling them now! :D

  • @DeannaTroi70 Sweet! I'll be on the look out for it! Thank you! :)

  • @califgirl101 Anytime califgirl! :D

  • Does anybody know which type of sirens are theese? They crying like an old Federal siren.

  • These are Federal Sirens not the Show ME siren. model is either PA20A Interceptor or PA200 or 300 as all of these were mid 70's sirens. I have the PA20A unit which sounds exactly like the wail in this clip

  • Federal Twinsonic lightbar, right? The model before the AeroDynic?

  • greatest decade ever the 70,s

  • I'VE SEeN AN OLD MAN DRIVING A FORD LTD THE SAME COLOR IN MY TOWN VERY QUICK BIG CARS

  • The LAPD are pretty good at ballet lolol Good movie;-)

  • i'm not quite sure, cause i don't watch much late 70's or 80's movies at all, but the dude on the left sitting in the back seat looks like the same guy as a cop in "for the love of benji"

  • Theese police cars looks so awesome, I wan't one :D

  • If that LTD had a 460--the Mopars wouldn't stand a chance!

  • not true, putting a stock 1974+up 460 in that LTD is like putting lipstick on a pig...its still a PIG.

  • The Ford was ahead of the Chryslers then--it still rules today!!

  • At 1:09 we see complete 180 degree turn yet in 1:10 it is 90 degree another mistake. :) =) 2:51 a police car at the left side which dissapears at 2:52 just when starting to turn. And while completing the turn the other cop car passes which is another mistake because it should already pass given the faster speed and the delay of the turning ;) 180 degrees. 4:20 and note in the back 2:22 they already are pointing the mustang but later 4:36 they just started to follow it. Mistake ;p.

  • It is not a mustang, its a 77 or 78 Ltd

  • Thanks. It's still Ford but I mistaken in for Mustang because of my mania for it :D from the other movies I mentioned.

  • Also I thing I just saw montage! See at 0:22 a car passes very fast like 50 mph in front of the Mustang. But at 2:24/25 1 second later it is FULLY STOPPED. No old car can stop that fast and there aren't brake traces :) =).

  • if somebody knows the name of the drivers car pls sent me a message

  • Ford Ltd. 77 or 78 ;).

  • good

  • somebody please dub this with the blues brothers chase music for a good laugh!

  • 2:19 far left nice 440 smoke show!!!

  • i loved the 1998 game driver it got me hooked on driving before i could even drive!!!

  • ps1 game driver 1 sampled the crash sound from 2:49 and 5:46!

  • The 1998 video game Driver was heavily influenced by the movie. Most notably the scene in the movie in which the Driver proves his skills to some gangsters in a parking garage is copied for the first level of the game. They even went as far as to use the car crash sounds used in the movie.

  • my grandad was like him in the 70s

  • awesome!! :D

  • Old wig-wag at 1:22.

  • Why were they running from the police? :-0

  • the two in the back seat just robbed a casino, and the titular character behind the wheel is whisking them from the scene of the crime.

  • This is the best clip on YouTube of this movie scene. To the younger crowd viewing--this movie was made long before video games of today. Older is better!!

  • in my opinion i like the ending chase in the original gone in 60 seconds especially the end at the car wash but the remake sucked

  • Its not going to be here for long, Youtube deletes everything that has Copyrighted Material.

  • This is the best chase movie right beside Bullitt. And most of kids dont know that this movie was before the internet .

  • Gotdaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!!

  • oh my god, this is really like Driver: You Are The Wheelman's live action film

  • yea i think this and bullit are the inspiration for the games by the same name

  • driver 1 uses the effects in this movie, like the crash sound LOL.

  • that was fucking cool, is the based on the game Driver 1 for the psx?

  • it was made in the 70's it can't be...
