The driver in the Lambo did his best. It's just the slow version of the lambo. This is the first gen Gallardo. The Balboni LP550 will put over 1 soccer field on the M5 if not more.
You can reel out all the excuses you want but, at the end of the day, one is a 5 seater saloon and the other is a 2 door coupe, with the same power. Sorry, but there's no excuse for that.
But don't fret Lambo lovers because despite my love for BMW, if I were offered either one to take home for free I would take the Lambo. Then sell it and buy an M5 and mod the shit out of it.

Also this is the first generation Gallardo w/ 500 hp which weighs more, has inferior transmission and gearing than on the newer Gallardo's (LP550 and up). This Gallardo was released around 2003, much older tech than this E60 M5. Compare the M to the LP550 and you will see it will pull by a 1/2 soccer field and then some.

Both cars are supposed to have 500HP right? Thats a significant power to weight ratio advantage over the M5. Thats if its actually stock. The only thing that can explain these results is actual wheel HP. The M5 is probably putting more to the ground especially since the Gallardo is older.
@V8Supercar1, 1st gen Gallardo (as shown in video here) should be at around 3350 lbs. So that's 650 lbs of weight difference. E60 is very highly optimized for high ends, very fast for sports sedan, while the 1st gen Gallardo is very slow for Lambo supercar standard. It is believable that the M5 shown here is stock. You don't need a modded one to beat the 1st gen Gallardo.:)
Also the engine tuning and power curve I believe is inferior on this first gen Gallardo than the LP550 and Up. Lamborghini has made *massive* performance improvements since the LP560 days. lP550 is newer than the LP560 and also faster.
@gtadrif, no that's about right. The outcome was expected as the first gen Gallardo 500 hp is slow car... very slow. This is a 2003 tech, the original model. It actually did pretty good hanging with the M5. Professional roll races managed by m5boarddotcom tests cars performance, not the drivers. America's have drag strips for dig launching which tests out drivers. This is *european* pro class racing, much much better.
@mrblondeno2, M5 is fast, but this 1st gen Gallardo is known to be slow. Try racing against the LP560 and it will pull on the M5 by about 1/2 soccer field. Balboni LP550 will pull 1/2 soccer field and additional 1/2 valleyball court.

They have almost the same engine outputs but the HighRev V10 in the E60 was designed to work sublime.The difference in weight between M5 and Gallardo is about 390 Kilos but she cant be seen there.

BMW M5 is only 155mph in stock trim as released by dealership. By law it has to be restricted at point of sale (BMW) but unrestricted it will top 200mph. I know this one of our comapny directors owned one.

Thats why they show power-to-weight ratio. Since the cars are moving and the HP ratings of both cars are close they will be pretty close to each other in this kind of race. 0-60 the Lambo will be a little bit faster, around the track, the lambo will be faster. If you dont get it, then you arent really a car guy
@norb088 actually the V10 in the M5 is one of the best engines in the world and has won numerous awards. Search for ANY M5 or M6 vs lambo gallardo and the M wins....EVERY time. It's not skill...it's engineering.

the main reason why m5 did go side by side, even it`s a way heavier then gallardo, is that the bmw m5`s max torque is a higher rpm than gallardo. while gallardo needs to shift, m5 has torque to accelerate

bye the way i agree with you that on paper the lambo shud move ahead very well but, dont forget aerodynamics etc etc, i know all about ptw ratios and all that, and in my opinion the lambo is over geared, i once raced one and it only got about 1.5/2 car lengths ahead of me up to about 120 mph, so its quick but its not that quick, the m5 on the other hand is staggering for a big salon, get a test drive of one and hit the m button and be amazed. it doesnt feel as quick as it is !!
On paper you're right, but in the real world, they're quite similar. My guess is the first couple years of the gallardo were making less than the advertised 500hp, or the m5 makes more than the claimed 500hp. Either way, there's no refuting evidence that the m5 is barely slower than an older gallardo. Now the LP-560 is a completely different story......
@Karar24 The driver in the Lambo was fine. He started the roll in the right gear, he never missed a shift, and it sounded like he was shifting about as fast as the Lambo's transmission would let him. M5's are faster than their specs indicate. Why? Who knows but it is a common theme with BMW's.
yeah, my 3 series coupe is going back off lease in a couple days. Biggest POS i've ever owned. Seriously, I've never been to service(unscheduled) with any other car i've owned. I've had German( Porsche), American( Dodge, Jeep), & Japanese( Evo IX MR) and BMW is by far the worst experience i've ever had...both BMWs I've had.
That gallardo was a SE, which has more power than this gallardo, and had e-gear. So more power with quicker shifts means it can beat the rs6. The gallardo in this video would have lost to the rs6.

the gallardo is manual, and the m5 has smg transmition which is a way faster shift then manual. But still the m5 is a beast car!. thats embarrassing for the gallardo considering the price range difference

the main reason why m5 did go side by side, even it`s a way heavier then gallardo, is that the bmw m5`s max torque is a higher rpm than gallardo. while gallardo needs to shift, m5 has torque to accelerate

bye the way i agree with you that on paper the lambo shud move ahead very well but, dont forget aerodynamics etc etc, i know all about ptw ratios and all that, and in my opinion the lambo is over geared, i once raced one and it only got about 1.5/2 car lengths ahead of me up to about 120 mph, so its quick but its not that quick, the m5 on the other hand is staggering for a big salon, get a test drive of one and hit the m button and be amazed. it doesnt feel as quick as it is !!

On paper you're right, but in the real world, they're quite similar. My guess is the first couple years of the gallardo were making less than the advertised 500hp, or the m5 makes more than the claimed 500hp. Either way, there's no refuting evidence that the m5 is barely slower than an older gallardo. Now the LP-560 is a completely different story......

@Karar24 The driver in the Lambo was fine. He started the roll in the right gear, he never missed a shift, and it sounded like he was shifting about as fast as the Lambo's transmission would let him. M5's are faster than their specs indicate. Why? Who knows but it is a common theme with BMW's.

yeah, my 3 series coupe is going back off lease in a couple days. Biggest POS i've ever owned. Seriously, I've never been to service(unscheduled) with any other car i've owned. I've had German( Porsche), American( Dodge, Jeep), & Japanese( Evo IX MR) and BMW is by far the worst experience i've ever had...both BMWs I've had.

That gallardo was a SE, which has more power than this gallardo, and had e-gear. So more power with quicker shifts means it can beat the rs6. The gallardo in this video would have lost to the rs6.

German M5 Power, dont forget its a limousine with 1855 kg and the Gallardo 1470 kg, the M5 has 400 kg more weight ! Thats german perfection ! The new Mercedes E63 would kill that Gallardo ( 525 PS ) or the SL 65 AMG Black Series, or the CLK DTM AMG, or or or or =)

The Gallardo's driver is an idiot, and he doesn't use the gear correctly, but rember that the c63 amg is slower than the M3, and the clk dtm is a racing car whit the plate, gallardo isn't a racing car xD
