@GeorgeCarlinIsInHell Of course Doug is going to be overshadowed by Brooks. Look at everything Brooks did for that organization and also did in the world of baseball. Not saying that Doug wasen't appreciated in Baltimore, because he was, it's just hard for anyone to ever step out of the shadows of a HOF, especially when you're the one who has replaced him. Steve Young didn't step out of Joe Montana's shadow until he proved he was a winner and wen't out and became SuperBowl MVP.
@FRSFreeStateES Doug DeCinces and Glenn Gulliver broke all of Brooks Robinson and Graig Nettles fielding records (which are now held by Mike Lowell). The 3rd greatest of all time is Floyd Rayford.
@FRSFreeStateES Go watch game 4 of the 1979 AL playoffs between Baltimore and California. With the bases loaded and one out,Jimmy Anderson smashed a hard grounder down the 3rd base line and Doug DeCinces dove to his left, fielded the ball with a handfull and face full of dirt, stepped on the the 3rd base bag and than fired a strike to Eddie Murray at first to end the inning. That was the turning point of the game and Baltimiore than went on to win 8-0.Brooks was great but Doug was better.
Watch the 1970 World Series and thats all the evidence you'll need to know why Brooks Robinson is considered the best Defensive 3B of all time and is the best Defensive 3B of all time.
@FRSFreeStateES I watched that many times and I saw Brooks Robinson make an error in game one on the very first ball hit to him.I also saw Brooks the following year make 3 errors in one inning against the Oakland A's!Brooks was ok,but Doug DeCinces much better!
@ShamWasBetter You're an idiot for thinking Doug was anywhere close to Brooks. How many MVP's, World Series Championships, and, gold gloves did Dougie boy win? Nice play in the 79 ALCS but you're using one play to knock off Brooks. Brooks made many, MANY, great plays in the 1970 World Series that helped the O's win the championship. Big deal if he made an error in Game One, if a ball is hit to you 100 times like it was in that series, ANYONE is able to botch a play. Now shut up and sit down
@ShamWasBetter Get your head out of your ass. Ever hear of players named Clete Boyer, Mike Schmidt, Graig Nettles, Billy Cox or Pie Traynor? Didn't think so. Idiot.
LISTEN UP BROOKS ROBINSON: You broke my little 9-year-old heart in 1970. I cried for days after that final game. Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Lee May, Bobby Tolan and Tony Perez were my boyhood heros. You single handedly dismantled the Big Red Machine. No man had ever done that before or since. I must acknowledge that YOU sir... are a true Hall of Famer and a class act.
@nr1osfan Thank you. Watching Brooks snag bullet after bullet off the Reds bats was a lot like watching Ozzie Smith in his prime.... only better. It was like watching a magician. It was all too surreal. His defensive performance in that series belongs in the top five moments in the history of sports.
@MikeB260 Thank you ;) My bitterness and disdain for Brooks Robinson has slowly faded over the last 40 years to deep appreciation for his fabulous career and performance in that '70 World Series. Lord how I wish I had all of those old Brooks Robinson baseball cards back. As a boy, everytime I opened a pack of Topps baseball cards I would quickly shuffle through the pack for any of my beloved Reds, pop the rock hard bubblegum in my mouth and throw the Orioles in a mud puddle or down the sewer.

So your justification that Doug DeCinces is the best 3B of all time, is Fielding Percentage?
