Ive played A LOT of MMOs and none of them have the community that DAoC did. Sure you got your guilds and fleets and what nots.. but DAoC had a massive amount of friendship and respect across all realms and across all servers that has not been seen since. DAoC brought a rare breed of gamers together... when the dust settled at the end of the night, your in game foes were your best friends. I really miss that in todays games.
Seems like no game or game community will never be like Daoc Galahad. I remember roaming Emain with Reyez and Teletha like it was yesterday. Reyez smacking people with his nasty hammer and Teletha keeping everyone else Zzzz'ed.
ps: We miss you to Hydro. And everyone else that played on Galahad, even the albs.
this was one of the greatest things we have ever done...much love for all... never found another game that meant as muchas DAoC did... miss you all. Eternalshadows
I was in game at this event ....yes it was laggy, and yes we pvp'd a little bit afterwards, but honestly it was the most epic thing I ever was a part of in an mmorpg. Thank you Kallisti!!
looking for a great all the way around free MMORPG..... Look no more Dark Age Of Camelot Is Free to play now with our free uthgard private server..... please go download our new 14 day free trial and download daocportal..... look up uthgard server for DAoC.
this is so amazing and heartfelt. i played daoc for about a year and a half and i had such a great experience, but my online friend started playing WoW againa nd I endded my daoc subscription. But from my memories there, it was such a helpful and great community. :D
heh man, this video still gets to me. But I agree with the masses. the DAoC community is probably the best out there. Even to this day, through the rise and fall, and rise again of the game, clusters and mergers, this game is in my opinion the best out there. It has been and most likely always will be the base of my comparison to any MMO out there.
I enjoy watching these old videos. Shows just how much we are missing with todays generation of games and gamers. It makes me sad, yet proud I got to share the experiences.
This is why I've never liked any MMO as much as DAoC. The kind of community that once was in this game is really non-existant in MMOs nowadays. May she R.I.P!
DAOC was the first and last game that i felt complete joy and pride to be part of. We will all be lucky if we should experience something like that again in our lives.
@ilyaz619 yes, there was a time in a mmo where people met in RL for fun and get friends in RL. This time was DAoC ;) the best online time in my whole life....
@Room20 The realms aren't empty; with the server consolidation they actually feel kinda full -- lag ghosts and such. :> You should all come back and at least try the free trial if not resub.
I am a relatively new player at one year, so do not remember the good old days; but there is still honor there. The only place I've found it in a videogame. Rare anywhere else, too. I play Hib but lost my heart to at least two Albs who /bowed to me after killing my silly noob self in RvR. Respect.
.War hammer watered all that down by making the game about gear plain and simple....I met alot of cool people in DAOC...alot more than I could count.
^^ You mean WoW watered everything down. There is no community in games anymore. You may find it in EQ, UO, in small areas of DAoC and LoTR but most games, players are about number 1.
I remember Teletha and Reyez, real nice couple. I pvp'ed alot with them back in the good old days. But i think my best memory of them was when we spent 1 week straight farming and camping stygia for artifact spawns.
"You don't get respect like that anymore in an online-game. It wasn't like that back then, we had morals. "
the community was far more mature and close knit...War hammer watered all that down by making the game about gear plain and simple....I met alot of cool people in DAOC...alot more than I could count.
Yeah. Now there's just nothing. All the good players left a long time ago. Solo fights are almost non-existant, honor is completely dead in nf anymore.
Either way. R.I.P. from Bodman 50 inf. of Killibury.
Still make's me remember you teletha! i miss the days of the ole tele/rey duo's following alongside knightwatch. you really are greatly missed for not only your great skill as a healer, but your auru and great attitude towerds everything.
UGH!! i miss the old daoc days so much :[ daoc really did have the best community n everyone was really friends.. and then EA gobbled up mythic and changed/ruined everything..
I was there. Seeing this brings it all back like it was yesterday. I do really miss the old DAoC days. Playing a game where everyone knew everybody and we were all friends, even on opposite realms, we were all in a way...friends.
This is one of the reason's I liked and respected people in DAoC, it has the most mature gamers in it, not like WoW. A large reason I miss playing DAoC.
I didn't know Teletha myself, nor was I able to attend this event, she must have been a great person given the turnout for her memorial. I feel I missed out on a great friendship since I did not know her, may she rest in peace, and may her memory live on in the server and all the other servers as well.
god i wish i was there now this is so sad Dark Age of Camelot is one of my Favorite games and some of the people well most of all of them are very nice and have respect for a lot of people
Teamwork and coordination of this magnitude was amazing and I couldn't find it in any other game. I never got to say this back then but a big THANK YOU! for making my time in DAoC that much more enjoyable.
I grouped with Teletha in my early lvl 20 right outside Galplen, and I will always a tender memory of her and Reyez. It is nice that you posted this movie Kallisti, I hope you are doing well.
From the very first time I saw this on the Kallisti website many many years ago, it's made me bawl my eyes out. The song is perfect and the procession through the snowy scenes is really moving. I've been showing this during my work related MMORPG presentations many times now, as an example of the power of emotion and bonding one can have through a game. That these characters are much more than pixels and polygons.
That's really sad. Very sad. Good thing alot of people came together in harmony without fighting. Unlike WoW's funeral, which was very sad too, but the jerks ruin it anyway.
i remember that day.. now days if we do that we just get kill :(.. back then was the best of the best.. and become friends form other realms.. that was good i ws there.. but now :(.. no-body will ever do that.. everyoen will become back stabers to all realms and get there realm points for no reason.. but that day was all lag to.. on my computer.. i will /salute u to the end..

Not true; I keep meeting players who've been around since beta, or nearly, and they are damned good. :)
All games change, as everything changes; but if the best do not abandon them, they keep what is really important.
