@wiredmechs TFWiki: "Although the original toyline and thus the characters' basic visual designs were taken from Japanese-originated products, the original characters, names, factions and entire story premise of the whole Transformers franchise were developed in the United States by Hasbro, Marvel and eventually Sunbow. Although the animation was farmed out, the writing and original voice recording of all four seasons of the original series plus The Movie were entirely done in America."
As far as I can tell, EVERY Transformers incarnation is its own continuity, though there is that so-called "Unicron Trilogy" of shows that is supposedly linked (never saw them).
I've watched most of 'em, and there's the TF Wiki, of course. They're not all independent, and it's not really that complicated. There's G1, and then BW and BM. RID's a reboot, meant as a placeholder. Armada's a reboot, with Energon and Cybertron continuing it. Animated's also a new universe, and the movies are a new universe.
BW und BM take place on prehistoric earth, it's a prequel to TTF of the 80s. its maybe an alternate universe too like animated is a split timeline after the events of pre-TTF. the 3rd cybertronian war against the decepticons might have had a slightly different outcome there so animated is already the fourth war (as is this show, the headmasters).
@StellarCry Except in BW/BM, the characters begin in the future, after the war, and go *back* to the past. They know what's going to happen because it already has. The third season of BW really revolves around this. It's more of a prequel than a sequel, really.
Then Ravage and Starscream remember the events of G1 *how?* Video of G1 Megatron exists *how?* Optimus Prime is revered historical figure *how?* Maximals and Predacons are *decendants* of the Autobots and Decepticons *how?*
You said it yourself: Everything already happened, but they went back to the past to maybe MAKE it happen in the first place. It's a matter of how you view things, I'd say it's a prequel (because the events happen in a time before G1), but you can call it a sequel too, I guess. I'd say we're both right and can stop the ridiculous arguing.
Prowl was very popular to the comic world, myself, and the Japenese. As I remember correctly, they refused to believe Prowl died in the movie and basically wrote that it was not Prowl that died in the shuttle, but Bluestreak (his brother).
I am sort of glad the cartoons ended when they did. If we saw this crap, we would not like Transformers anymore orwe may not have had discovered Megan Fox.
So what is "G1"? A storyline? A set of characters?
Because from what I've seen and heard thus far, "Headmasters" rewrites Season 4 of the original cartoon series. So it literally changed the story after the first series ended. Plus it was only in Japan. So doesn't that right there show that there are two "G1" continuities?
well this is a break off from the american storyline, this is the first fully japanese show and the story and charaacters change a lot from the american version starting with the ova scramble city.
No, he didn't. Only Prowl, Ironhide, Ratchet, Brawn, Windcharger and Wheeljack were 100% offed in the movie. Anyone else who didn't appear later on was assumed to have bought the farm, too.
i LOVE they way that there is that really exciting action music at the start and when it zooms in on the autobot base it shows Spike sipping a cup of tea!!!!
i LOVE they way that there is that really exciting action music at the start and when it zooms in on the autobot base it shows Spike sipping a cup of tea!!!!
I can not believe that I am finally going to get a chance to see this! I have always heard about this from back in the days. THANKS wutonchu! I only hope that they can decide to release the complete Generation One and Headmasters in english on High Definition.
the japanese version is seperate from the english-labguage one, they have their own names for things (the decepticons being called 'Destron's et al.) if you don't like it too bad, don't be pushing your beliefs onto other cultures :P Besides, the japanese audience supported the transformers series enough for it to be able to make a few more of the original series when american/english-speaking markets couldn't seem to
I would like to see some protoform transformers series! Where they would be all kinda same colour just different looks, cause cybertronians copied human vehicles (and vehicle colours) when they came to earth but all cartoons forgets it.... Transformers TAS did same mistake. But i like these japanese series they r really nice i also watch Robots In Disguise... Cause Japan Transformers r something new...
However, the japanese animators had co-worked on the realisation on the movie, and more and more there was the episode Dark Awakening dubbed in Jap, that showed the casualties.
Hound, Sideswipe and Smokescreen weren't officially killed in the movie, and along with Warpath, Powerglide, Seaspray, Tracks, Sunstreaker, Skyfire, Omega Supreme, Cosmos etc. were planned to be cast more regularly in Headmasters, but at last these projects failed :( ...
This so funny. Daniel runs in place for about five seconds towards the end. Prowl came back from the dead. And Ultra Magnus calls Sixshot("the new guy") a bastard.
this is so much better then the crappy dub bed version starTV made, I'm serious it sounds like it was done with only one voice actor and the dialogue sucked royally, im my opinion it shamed the transformer franchise, the undubbed one is much better.
Important note: TFTM hadn't aired in Japan by the time this came on. Thus, the Japanese animators didn't know that Prowl, Hound, Sideswipe, Smokescreen, etc were dead.
LOL "The Cybertron leader, Convoy (Optimus Prime) died in battle" I suppose that is succint enough for a summary, but it definately excluded the drama from the movie.
I dont understand any of this. Can someone explain at what point the American and Japanese cartoon series go into two different storylines. Or are they just two entirely different series. Also, what seasons were never shown in the US?
When Rebirth ended, it also ended the transformers hip on the US, but in japan, they were still popular, but rebirth was so horrendous than the japanese decided to make their own series, in fact, the reason that the animation is a bit crudy is because they tried to copy some of the korean animation of season 3 (the japanese animated season 1, part of 2, the movie, and some episodes of season 3, but americans retained control)
@wutonchu There was a proper English dub in the works, but while working on Episode 7, the website hosting the completed eps was shut down and utterly erased from the internet.

yeah, and hound, and sideswipe...they were ALL killed during the movie and their remains were destroyed during the end of Dark Awakening! looks like this is one japanese adaptation that DOESNT work as good as it should!
The movie was never released in Japan, so the Japanese audience wouldn't know about their deaths. They'd just assume the series stopped focusing on them. When they split the show off into Headmasters, they just took advantage of that fact and ignored the final episode.
Just so you know the movie was released in Japan. However the last three episodes called The Rebirth were not and this is where the Headmasters series begins
Actaully neither hound nor Sideswipe was killed in the movie. First Sideswipe wasn't even in TF the movie and Hound was only should near the shuttle then Optimus was about to fight Megatron for the last time.
have you watched Dark Awakening recently? cause im 100% sure that they are dead, regardless of the movie, which has errors in it, and um, yea...i'm gonna need you to be in the office on saturday..yea..
Because Marvel and Mattel didn't think a headmaster series would do good here in the US and so they ended the Transformer series after the epsiode of Rebirth because it would lead into a new series called Head master transformers.
