  • The "LN" on the tails looked better when they were on the F-111's. Really miss that base, and that jet. Best 3 years of my life. The Brits were great hosts.

  • @jonesy97 I was at Lakenheath from Nov 79- Oct 81 (Medic). Had a grand time. Spent a lot of time in Bury St. Edmunds with a British rock band (Tutch). When were you there?

  • @bgm1958 I was there from Sept 1988 to Mar 1992, almost a year of that was spent in Taif, Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. In the UK, I lived in Feltwell, in base housing, but did spend a lot of time in Bury St Ed. When I needed my American food fix, I went to the McDonalds there in town. I too, played with locals in a band. We did cover tunes, blues, rock, metal, etc. Helluva lotta fun.

  • @jonesy97 There was a McDonalds in BSE?! Since when? I remember RAF Feltwell. A co-worker lived in base housing there. As a single barracks dweller I would get myself associated with a married co-worker so I had someplace to go to get a home cooked meal once in a while. There wasn't much happening militarily so morale was pretty low on base. It seemed like Congress was always busting our balls over spending. That's why I spent so little time on base.

  • @bgm1958 Just on the corner of cith center. The big square street where they would have festivals. On the west end of that square. If you didn't know, it was probably built after you left. There's a Burger King in Caimbridge, too. I remember having to pay for Ketchup there, since tomatoes dont grow there. I asked for it, and they said "that'll be 20p, please?" WTF? You remember all the carrot trucks? Jesus!

  • @jonesy97 Yeah, I remember the carrot trucks. When the weather was nice enough I used to ride my bicycle around the countryside for exercise. The first time I did it it was at harvest time and I wondered why there was so many carrots laying at the side of the road. BTW, I was the band photographer, not a musician. I can't remember if there was a Burger King in Cambridge when I was there. I was looking for an English experience so I avoided American places if I could.
