Doubtful. First of all, apartheid is fairly small compared to a lot of the other complaints that BOTH sides have about each other. Additionally, there are people who would be reluctant to end the conflict even if the other side stopped all wrongs on their end. They just hate each other too much.

Doubtful. First of all, apartheid is fairly small compared to a lot of the other complaints that BOTH sides have about each other. Additionally, there are people who would be reluctant to end the conflict even if the other side stopped all wrongs on their end. They just hate each other too much.

Many people can't afford to just fly over to the Middle East on a whim. And if everyone did, it would consume ridiculous amounts of fuel, far more than the pittance of energy used by being on a computer. Also, while going there can certainly be helpful, you're almost guaranteed to get a very biased view of the situation unless you talk with people on all three sides (pro-Israel, pro-Palestine/Arab/etc, and everyone in the middle).

Lying about what? Israel has repeatedly offered peace settlements and every offer has been met with terrorist attacks. Palestinians enjoyed full rights as Israeli citizens and were allowed to vote hold office, etc. Palestinians as Israeli citizens had more rights than in any muslim nation. In 2000 They were offered 95% of Palestine to be thier homeland and responded with terrorism. What can Israel do that it hasn't already tried? Also niether Israel nor Palestine is in Africa.

And where should they have gone? We're talking post-war, post-Holocaust. True, they shouldn't have kicked out the Muslims, but they /did/ need somewhere to go. Israel was part of the Allies' reparations to the Jews. It's a relatively recent country, but it's old enough that you can't just say 'right, you're Jewish, get out.' It should never have been made, but since it /has/ been, I think that both sides should accept that both have a right to the land and treat it accordingly

I'm not for any state based on religion, frankly; it only leads to prejudice, hatred, and warfare. But it does seem that, if Palestine doesn't want Israel to exist, there are better ways to deal with it than returning violence with violence.

But it's there, and if so much violence hasn't destroyed it, maybe Palestine should try democratic debate and compromise (that goes for Israel, too, before anyone gets indignant on me). I may have failed to make that clear before; looking back through my posts, I do seem to be rather on the side of the Israelis.

I believe that if you're not having fun, life is not worth living, and so when I get depressed, I find the source of my depression and issue a firm (but nothing personal) "Fuck you" and move on.
