I've only seen this movie once. It was shown to my 3rd grade class by our music teacher. And yet I remember it vividly, particularly this song. The Point is one of the most wonderful, memorable movies ever made. <3
"I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn't, then there's a point to it.'" – Harry Nilsson
I saw this back when it was new 1970-something I was a little kid then I wasn't able to find it till my older brother told me to try YouTube . Found it, order it on amazon .well I love it .
@annie777ful The ones that they sell on Amazon are not the original 1971 showing. The only ones you can find now are either narrated by Ringo Starr or Allen Thicke. It will never be the same until BBC get around to releasing the original.
I am 45 years old now, i remember going to see a play of The Point with my school in 1973 when i was 8 years old. I remember the song Me And My Arrow. They were good days and i wish it could be 1973 again and i could be 8 years old again and stay like that.
Oh yes, I watched this special cartoon aired in the evening in the late sixties. The first airing I might add. I remember Harry Nilsson doing the song and later in my life, when he came out with Nilsson Schmilsson, I could hardly believe it was the same guy.
To this day I think this is and was the best movie and album ever made. I think something that stays with you forever should be remembered. Thank you for this.
I first saw this in 1972..preview for the opening of Jethro Tull in a small back alley theatre, Oklahoma City.~ Made a BIG impression on this young stoned mind!
holy crap my dad showed the point to me when i was really young (i'm almost 17 now) and i remember loving thissss! hahahaha omg and i'm only just understanding the message now... xD
What an incredible, totally enjoyed flashback I've had watching this. I was a kid of the 70's and The Point gave me a great start to a heightened creativity.

Really weird. I thought this song sounded familiar when I heard "Burning Arrow" by Blackalicious. Who knew it was from an old VHS decomposing in my closet?
It's hard when you're perceived as being different little Obliio. I remember watching this as a child. Later, I had the privelege of meeting Harry Nilsson he was extremely humble and amazed that I remembered all the words to "Me and My Arrow". If not for the fact that we were working together he might have thought I was a stalker.
What a strange movie, I remember watching it as a kid and the plymouth arrow video with this song as the song on the commercial. Obliio was played by bobby brady and obviously ringo starr as the narrator. Nilson was a great artist and will be missed.

I would have to agree with you. The kid had a round head and everyone else had a pointy head. And people were mean to the round headed kid. Just like people are today.
FYI: My dad had the record when I was a kid. It was narrated by Ringo. I loved it. I have the video too and as far as I remember it was the same narration.
Nilsson never wrote any Beatles' songs. However he was a close contemporary of theirs and when some of them were asked who they were "into" their response was "Nilsson." He was also on the "lost weekend with John Lennon".
I was just flipping through an old 2004 issue of Sound and Vision magazine, when I noticed a DVD review of The Point, and a bell went off in my mind - I remember seeing this when it first aired in 1971 - I was only FOUR YEARS OLD!!
I remember seeing this film then, and then going out to play at the playground our apts had, which included a huge rocket ship for kids - it was strange at the time that my Dad took me & my bro to the playground at night that time.
If I am not mistaken, This is not the original. If you notice, Richie Starky is doing the dialog. The songs are original. Harry did the original dialog. at least in the USA original.
