I'm American, and I laughed my ass off at this play. Some hysterical busybodies just need to feel offended and angry about something in order to feel right: it's like crack for them. I don't see any of the people going berserk over this play going on a crusade against Jerry Springer... just an opera that makes fun of it.

I think watching it for what it is, light entertainment, should help matters. You can read further into it if you like, but just appreciate it as almost an opera spoof, with some hillarious moments, amazing cultural references and at times stunning songs and you won't go far wrong.

It's not anti- american. I think at times it celebrates American culture. If you think about it, it inspired someone to write an opera! I think it's a work of genius, even though it may lack tact at times.

I am really confused about how Jerry Springer the Opera is about hating Americans. It may satirise certain aspects of the USA, but as a British person, I understand that the people who go on Jerry Springer are trailer trash, the same way Trisha or J Kyle is full of British Chavs, and that it is not reflective of Americans as a whole. I find this whole film disturbing and represents the view of the moron who is talking in it, not Britain.

See the show...it's not Anti American at all...It's more of an anti-christian show...and that is actually why it eventually ran into trouble in the UK....I saw the show in London and have never had such a great time at the Theatre. This is one of the best musicals ever. Amazing show!

Oh my god! This show has nothing to do with hatred towards Americans. The makers of the musical merely saw how the dramatic nature of the Jerry Springer Show matched the melodrama in Opera and decided it would be a good idea for a comic show. Those kind of outrageous characters were constantly on the TV show and are therefore featured in the musical as a reflection of the TV show, not the American people in general!
