Yes, he was born near Shreveport, spent most of his adult life in east Texas (except for when he was incarcerated in Angola, La.) and then died in New York. His connection to Louisiana was the purpose of this comparison.

2008 Leadbelly Memorial: This year will be Sat., Nov. 8, at Noon, at his grave site in Mooringsport, LA (NW of Shreveport, LA a few miles--there's a map to the site posted online, with some folksy directions added in.) Just wanted you to know...hope to see you there! It would be great for you to play "Pick a Bale" there. P.S. If it's rainy, the memorial will be moved inside somewhere--probably in the rec center of the Shiloh Baptist Church on site there, right beside the cemetery.
