  • FUCK YEAH... snail rave music..

    *fist pump*

  • so what exactly r snails....would they be classified as a bug?

  • WOW i really want one as a pet.

Can you own these legally in the UK?

  • it seems sad that you have a snail for a pet... you seem poor and lonely lol no offence my personal opinion you probably arn't lonely and they are probably expensive

  • the french would be happy

  • horrible video dude... just horrible.

  • I just looked up these snails online and they are illegal to own in the US as well. So stupid!

  • That's correct. The US has a good environment for them, causing them to reproduce too rapidly if one ever escapes, which is why they are illegal.

I think it has happened once in Florida. Though, I could be thinking of zebra striped mussels.

  • snails like this would make for some amazing escargot

  • hmmmm..... these are illegal? why? are they endangered? cause i really want one. please reply

  • Hi there mrfolopi

Because you are in Malaysia having these snails could affect the ecology of animal life on the Island. so they are illegal as in other countries also, In the UK these snails can live as pets indoors but would not survive our climate in the winter. In countries where the climate is ideal like Malaysia any pets escaping would cause environmental problems...so its not a good Idea..

  • thank you very much sigarg. but what is the reason to the great ecology change? do they have no natural predators here in malaysia?

  • Malaysia has snails that are native to the Island, some being giant in species the concern being that the african giant snail is dominant and population would affect the sub species of smaller snail over a short period of time.

Stick insects are interesting pets also, and Malaysia has those too.

Eventually with climate change these pets will become illegal in other places..now because of animal rights giant snails are not being eaten either so hence the rise in populations.

  • sirgarg THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :D

  • illegal in some countries the 1st snail in vid

this exact one is achatina achatina ( tiger snail)

quite expensive pair went for 120 pounds summer 2009!

  • i heard that if you only have one of these snails it dies of lonleyness is that trew?

  • Not at all...they are quite happy by themselves and can reproduce too so they are never alone for long...

  • ...Sadly I no longer have The snails...but please continue to enjoy the the little vid...I've enjoyed all the emails and comments and Thank you for your Interest

  • Isnt your Pet illegal in the U.S?

  • It is but who cares most of us do not live there.

  • A snail rave.

  • id love 2 of those giant snails as pets, but they are a problem when it comes to space,so i just keep the normal snails as pets.

  • I'm like Timiya. I don't eat anything when you can tell wat it is after it's been cooked.

  • Watching a programme the other day...that mentioned eating garden slugs...it appears that they don't have the same appeal as snails and need gutting and de-sliming after cooking...not nice..

  • anyways, slugs are slimy, and you cant pick them up unless you want a slimy hand.

  • I used to play with slugs when I was a little irl. They'er neat, I'll bet snails are great too! Well actually slugs are just snails with out a shells!

  • I ordered some african land snails full grown ones ...I fried them with some fish and some lobster tail DAMN it was good!!!!

  • Good for you...but Its not my kinda thang...lol

  • This video was posted the day my son was born. : )

  • low quality vid, hard to see, but cool snail

  • techno snails

  • Nice snails

im getting 3 babys hopefully tomorrow

    where are they illegal?

  • well, I think you are refering to an earlier comment that airlines wouldn't allow the posting of hatchlings or possibly eggs, due to livestock regulations etc. I do know that the snails have a history of damaging the ecology of some native habitats i.e plants and other organisms in climatic environments where they could happily survive in the wild.

So controls are in place in some countries for the introduction of species that could affect the balance.

I hope this answers the question?..

  • the U.S,and they're only available in public in afro stores in europe and africa.

  • hi

i just got a gal (giant afircan land snail) today.

i was wondering if u NEED a heat mat? but my snals home thing is on top of my fish tank which gets warm.

if anyone could help me that would be great!

  • African Land snails prefer a warm, moist environment and most living rooms provide this requirement..though a heat mat on one side of the tank will do wonders if you want hundreds of eggs....

    Good Luck..

  • so i got a heatmat...

my snails are having eggs like every month...

im selling some and giving some away

right now im w8ting for some 2 hatch.

and im just growing some of my other babies : )

  • how much do you have now?

  • about 70 : )

  • if youre in a warm and wet cimate, they're fine, but dont put them in direct sunlight.

i do advise heat mats if you're in a different climate, other than

    tropical

  • Question: Ive got my snails, but can they suffacate in compost? Cos mine is covered in compost and is not moving, I've taken him out and putten him on a table.

  • Snails bury themselves for protection and when they get older they bury their eggs.. they do this because they need moisture..you should spray the tank evey other day on the glass so some droplets can be seen on the tank, this provides humidity and moisture.

If snails are not in a humid environment they go into their shells and glue themselves in until conditions are right...they also use this time to grow more shell so if you handle them make sure its from the pointy end.

    Good luck.

  • Im getting some from school tomorrow. We had 2 that had babies.

  • oooh! thats great they make lovely pets, so easy to care for...give them different vegetables and fruit to nibble on and don't forget the cuttlefish bone too, it helps to make strong healthy shells.

  • Thanks, Gary is so cute!

  • SORRY, wrong person on the gary thing

  • hey , i live in Belgium , and i whanna buy 1 , but i dont know where i should be able to buy 1 , Belgium is nothing like the U.S. , they are way ... way... , you know ...

can you pls awnser if you know where i should be able to buy 1?

    thanks , leafle

  • Hi leafie

I believe it can be quite difficult to buy these little fellows, but I'm sure if you have a look on the internet for a local pet supplier or exotic pet supplier, one that supplies snakes, lizards and spiders I'm sure you will have some joy...

Incidentally my little ones have now laid eggs and some have hatched, I could try and send some in a matchbox but survival would not be guaranteed, I got mine via the post though... I wonder ...fancy a try?

  • well , where you live ? cuz , you need to send it with air mail i guess , and i dont know if the air-company will let it trough

  • Hmm...you are probably right, you would be very welcome to have some of mine but I'm in the UK.

  • ye , my dad thinks to that the air - company wouldnt let it go troug , but thanks anyways xD

  • there r quite hard to keep actually i shud know i own sum!

  • lol sorry dude i did not even write this message it might of been my niece.

    lol i own two ALS

    sorry about that.

  • Its ok mate.... ive been waiting for them to lay eggs? not sure if I have conditions right..

If anyone has any ideas for successful egg laying ....drop me a line..

  • all you need is cuttlefish food substarte heatmat under one side substarte atleast 5 inch seeing as there so big and leave em to it and they will lay in no time

  • Thanks Joe ... I will look into investing a heat mat and substarte....

  • aww, very cute.

  • haha did you use a sony ericson to make this video? i got the same sound on my phone..called getting close or something lol

  • Yes indeed I used my sony ericson mobile to make this video...lol

Try it yourself...its a lot of fun!

  • they can be eaten???

  • Yeah, so ive been told... dont fancy it myself though...

  • ARGH I am so jealous... I've wanted one of those little guys for years but I guess the USA is racist towards snails. I hate this stupid country :0(

  • that law does kinda suck, you could have a native one though, i know its not the same but they are still really friendly.

  • I am a BIG guy who needs BIG snails!! The native snails around here are ooookay I guess, but a little stuck up and pretentious. The aquatic apple snails are pretty cool though, they are like living lava-lamps. Still, I dream for a day when the USA will accept snails of all backgrounds...

  • don't we all

  • der right cool pets i used 2 ave 3 but dey diead :(

  • Hi there...

you can get these little guys from specialist pet stores.. or via the net, like i did.

They come packaged like a takeaway...
