I was sooo glad to find her performance from BoM on here since I had lost my taping of the Tony awards. I love Lilias and her sweet smile and beautiful eyes. Oh yeah what a voice too. I loved her in the South Pacific concert at Carnegie Hall too. Thanks Seth!
i worship at the altar of rudetsky. anyone who uses the word "sassafrass" as a verb is top notch in my book. when are they going to start having a show on the ovation channel (or logo or whatever) that's like an olympics broadcast with sports commentators, but instead of skiing or figureskating, it's seth commentating on amazing singers.
Love it, love it! What did we ever do before we had you, Seth? You find all the tracks that I have listened to obsessively for years...and explain to me why I love them so! Thank you.
I would listen to this track over and over again just to hear that section when the show opended. I played it so often one year, my students thought that was going to be the school musical. hheheheh.
I always thoght the second riff echo was Jeff Blumenkrantz! So, I just went to the Tony Clip from that year and, sure enough, it's Broderick! Once again, you know all Rudetsky!!
I also thought it was Blumenkrantz - but now that I know it's Broderick - I totally hear it now! Awesome - I love your deconstructions . . .and I do use the site :-D
One of the "fastest" songs ever written for Broadway is Sondheim's "(Not) Getting Married Today" from "Company". But nobody can match Seth's lightning diction...
Thanks for all of these amazing posts. I collect the best of them on my website at theBestArts(.)com/SethRudetsky/
NO WAY!! i was just listening to this song THIS MORNING thinking "ugh what a great deconstruction this would make!!!" slides reminiscent of Mamma Will Provide "ooOOH WALK WITH ME LITTLE GIRL...." um what else do i love about this? oh at like 4:05 on the first riff, she goes amazing chest voice - deep low growl - gorgeous head voice. PERFECTION!! Right at like 4:50 in the song she busts out a double sylable "oh arent you per-oud to be" hahaha ive thought this through so many times haha
I don't understand with this brilliant Sperling arrangement, why the current revival goes back to the boring original version.

@zbandnerdz Lillias WHite is the main soloist in Zero to Hero, so it's possible

a very small part of that reminded me of Barbara Streisand Funny Girl - just a very small part of it.

While you're deconstructing, don't forget to mention how capital appropriates "brotherhood" for its own interests.
