Got this console recently via winning an eBay auction.
I'm definitely monstrously fascinated with it after spending some actual time playing some stuff on it. Then again, it certainly helps that the console has no region lockout... >_>
I remember the M32 add on the 3DO was supposed to get. The MPEG add on never came either. I think it was because of an earth quake hitting the factory or something. I liked my 3DO but I missed my Snes when I got one because I had to sell it to afford a 3DO.
@an1man1ac54l1f3 Yeah, 2 million units actually isn't that bad for a console NOT made by Sega, Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft. Especially given that the price tag was 700 GODDAMN US DOLLARS. If they had made it cheaper and focused more on good games it probably could have done even better.
I saw it once and fell in love...it was the Bentley of gaming at the time so as a child I could never afford it but we all wanted to play it...so i took revenge and bought a ps3 on the irst day of its release some 13 years later...!!
this thing was "Dreamcast MK1" the beginning of the end, trying to sell a revolutionary console for a lot more than the other products on the market at the time.
I bought one the day before the first price drop. I remember spending over $700 and then the next day the manager at Babbages called me and said "Come back by and get your $100!" I thought that was really cool of him to do that. I actually spent it on a couple of games of course.lol! I loved it. FIFA, Slam N Jam, Wing Commander, Madden, Road Rash, NFS, etc. I just bought a Dreamcast on ebay and will be buying the 3DO next! Then, the N64, Saturn, Jaguar, etc. Can't wait for some old school!
Technically, the Panasonic 3DO was the best 32 bits console out there (better than the PS1 or Saturn) and it had such a tremendous potencial, but it was virtually doomed from the beginning due to its high price ($700)... and yet some people believe the PS3 was expensive at its launch time ($600)...*sigh*
the Saturn and Playstation have far more processing power than the 3DO, this is a fact. the reason why most ports from 3DO to SAT/PS are inferior is simply bad programming.
They have Trip Hawkins saying how great 3do is. Would the average Japanese person even know who he is, let alone what he's saying. The 3do wasn't even that big of a success in the US anyway and just because a product is successful in the US doesn't mean its going to be successful in Japan
'Big Hit in the USA'? Yeah, in a bizarre alternate dimension maybe. And who in Japan thought that Trip Hawkins would be an ideal pitchman for promoting an American videogame machine in a nation/society fiercely protective of its own businesses and entertainment companies? LOL, thanks for posting. Somewhere Trip is laughing his head off with all the money he made selling the M2 technology to Matsushita who... did... what exactly with it?
trip hawkins is an ideal pitchman as he created 3do company and thats his own product.
the 100million made from m2 probably got spent on the 3do games that where made after they quit hardware and was mostly wasted seeing as trip had bailed the company out by investing his own money into it a few times
I had one when the price came down, it was actually a nice system with some good games but by the time you could buy one the Playstation and Saturn stoled the 3DO's lunch money.
not true people still won't pay $700 for a game system that's why their knocking off $100 from the ps3 this year. i remember when my malls gaming store was going out of buisness and i bought a clearance NEO GEO system with 5 games for $600. The best game purchase i ever made.
I'm not sure why, but I always loved the way the announcer ready Panasonic 3DO :-D.

3DO was pretty powerful and could out-do the Playstation in some aspects, but the Sega Saturn was the most powerful 32-Bit console.
